By Spencer . July 10, 2012 . 11:06pm

Taiga Saejima from Yakuza 4 returns in Yakuza 5 as a playable character. In his Another Drama storyline, Taiga goes hunting for a giant bear in Hokkaido, but loses consciousness on the mountain. An old man rescues him from freezing to death and tells him about a legendary beast called Yama Oroshi.

Searching for the monster is just one Taiga’s goals. To stay alive, Taiga has to hunt wild animals using a rifle and survive extreme the mountain’s harsh conditions. Weather changes in real time, which affects visibility and suddenly makes blizzards appear. In addition to his gun, Taiga has animal traps to help him out too.

I have the sudden urge to replay D2.

    • SeventhEvening

I’d love to see a D3. D and D2 were both completely amazing experiences, even if they were a disjointed.

      • Kirbysuperstar2

D was awesome because it showed you that video of you eating your mother’s face. I liked Enemy Zero, too.

…. What the heck? Since when did Yakuza take a note from Man vs. Wild?

But I guess there’s gotta be a game that truly does cover all the bases.

    • SeventhEvening

The rifle is the only surprising part. Kiryu kills two tigers with his fists in the second game and he beat up a bull in 4. The series constantly adds new surprising stuff every installment.

The yakuza series always makes me feel I’m getting my money’s worth.

  • Andrew Austin

So far we know Yakuza 5 is going to have taxi driving and wilderness survival.

What else do you think Sega has in store for us?

Personally, I wouldn’t be surprised to see an Iron Chef-like segment.

  • Paradox me

Yakuza is probably the only video game series that can present bear hunting and still have me questioning the need of a rifle.

Isn’t there, I don’t know, a tree that you can uproot and use as a weapon? Can you fight a bear using a deer? Dual wield deer?

  • DuskSharkEX

I’m getting hungry for bear stew now.

Now I want Stephen Colbert as a cameo in this scene.

        How ’bout Takamura Mamoru?

Rikiya Koyama voiced Taiga and Takamura so that would be funny xD

        • DuskSharkEX

I was shooting for that reference. Did I miss?

No you didn’t It hit me Anyways xD

            Kuma Koroshi Takamura!

Though I did feel sorry for Takamura xD

Why the hell does Taiga needs a rifle for??? I rather he goes bear-wrestling instead…

  • XiaomuArisu

Another Drama? Is that a bonus story? If yes everyone will get one I feel it!
Harukas another drama would be winning the black belt in every martial arts XD
    Yakuza 5 ftw!

  • badmoogle

Damn,i hate having to kill animals in games. :(

  • Tom_Phoenix

I guess someone on the development team must really like the Deer Hunter series:

I just hope the game doesn’t spread itself too thin. Osaka, Fukuoka, Sapporo, and Nagoya as entirely new locations is an ambitious improvement already but with taxi driving, bear hunting, and rhythm gaming (?) it almost sounds like there would be too much innovation at play.

Then again, the screenshots look nice and Kamurocho was certainly becoming a bit stale, so I’ll keep my hopes up and wish for a speedy localization :)

  • Luis Camargo

Now I just hope Sega US announce a localization ASAP. Even if the US launch is far.
With their current situation I fear the localization of Yakuza 5 may not be 100% sure.

    • Sperium3000

If Yakuza 5 doesn’t get localized,it would really suck. Between the fun battle system, interesting plots and likeable characters, I’m a hardcore fan of the Yakuza series, and I’m certain I’m not the only one in that category. Yakuza is one of the best franchises under the SEGA brand.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World
