Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Collector’s Set Has More Content On PlayStation 3

By Spencer . July 12, 2012 . 2:09pm

This September, Capcom will release a Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Collector’s Set for both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. As previously reported, this collector’s set will come with both physical goodies as well as as a bunch of downloadable games. Let’s do a quick recap of what it contains.

In terms of downloadable games, the Collector’s Set will include: Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online Edition, Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition (with all costume DLC) and Street Fighter X Tekken (with all character Swap costume DLC).

The set will also come with an 8” tall Ryu statue in a Shoryuken pose, a 64-page hardcover art book featuring art submissions from fans, and an 11-disc soundtrack set with official Street Fighter music and fan submissions.

Finally, a two-disc Blu-Ray set included as part of the Collector’s Set will contain a documentary about the series’ influence on fans (and vice-versa), the Street Fighter IV and Super Street Fighter IV anime movies as well as the Street Fighter animated series and Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie.

Today, however, Capcom revealed at Comic-Con that you’ll get more content if you buy the Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Collector’s Set for the PlayStation 3 specifically. The PS3 version will come with download codes for all three Street Fighter Alpha games as PSOne Classics, Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max for the PSP, and all of the Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online Edition DLC.

Finally, you’ll also get 175 PlayStation Network avatars. The Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Collector’s Set will be released on September 18th, 2012 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in North America. It will cost $150.

Two things, Capcom is slowly doing cool things again to completly restore themselves to their former glory they need a new megaman game and second they really hate mircosoft and xbox this is the third thing this year that is better for sony.

    • Yes, that’s why the 360 is getting the Resident Evil 6 demo months ahead of the PS3. Because they hate Microsoft. :P

      • Herok♞

I forgot about that, but other then that I feel everything is given to Sony, they are getting more content for this and the Resident Evil 6 collectors editon, and SFxT had 5 Sony exclusive characters

        • Well, it depends on what the first-party manufacturers are willing to pay for (either in cash or in kind–ie; marketing assistance etc.).

Microsoft probably felt that getting RE6 demo exclusivity was a far better idea than a few extra characters that don’t even fit into the SFxTK universe. They’d be correct in that regard, too, because it will do two things:

          1. Associate RE6 strongly with the Xbox.
          2. Give people a reason to buy Dragon’s Dogma on the 360.

On the other hand, I believe Capcom’s fighters sell a little better on the PS3 than they do on the 360 (don’t quote me on that), so Sony and Capcom both may have felt that it would be more beneficial to push that angle a little more with the extra characters.

It isn’t about liking or hating. Capcom know that they’re an important publisher to the first-party console guys and work with all three of them based on where they think they’ll get the best deal and most profitability. It’s just business. :)

          • Nemesis_Dawn

You’re correct about Capcom fighters selling more on PS3. In fact, all fighting games with the exception of the original vanilla SFIV and the Soul Calibur series sell more on PS3 than 360.

        • jacob7jacob

those characters are just joke characters + plus they’re health are extremely low

    • Nemesis_Dawn

Has nothing to do with hating Microsoft, otherwise, the RE6 demo would not be on XBL for a full two months before PS3. It has to do with what genres sell more on what systems.

Fighting games sell more on PS3. Boom. PS3 fighting games get bonuses. Sony even encourages it. Action games sell more on 360. Boom. 360 Action games get bonuses.

It’s smart business. Of course, you could just do what I did and buy both systems. If you’re willing to spend $150 on this, then you aren’t that far from being able to buy a PS3, as well.

      • Herok♞

I understand the fighting games getting bonus on ps3, but the best collectors edition of RE6 is also on ps3 with all the number games except zero

  • MrSirFeatherFang

Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie

I hear it’s hard to find the complete version, I might get this just to find out…

  • Joe Cammisa

I had this preorordered for the 360 and if Capcom or Microsoft don’t do something to sweeten the deal for Xbox owners, I’m going to cancel and just not buy it at all. I cancelled my Street Fighter x Tekken over the whole 5 exclusive character thing for PS3 owners, I’m more than happy to not give Capcom money if they want to keep giving Xbox owners the shaft.

    • D H

Really though, the only thing they could do here is give the SF3 3rd Strike DLC.  Everything else would have to be completely recoded from the ground up in order to work on the 360, and possibly delay the set pass the anniversary.  It’s just one of the benefits of the PSone Classics system Sony put into place; Microsoft later entry into console gaming is the only real fault here.  Granted, they don’t have to give away the extra games on the PS3, but since they are there, it is a nice bonus.

Irregardless, console exclusives are bound to happen, all the way back to the S/NES and Genesis/MD.  Either way, it’s still an excellent package, even more so considering that the Alpha ports, as I remember, aren’t exactly the greatest versions of the series around…

    • its not about capcom shafting xbox, sony said ok we’ll throw in the stuff for free, you need to be mad at Microsoft for not doing the same

    • joe ling

Hey capcom gives ps3 the shaft too. I’m not interested in Street fighter but I interested in resident evil 6, but we have to wait a while to play the demo and a month for the dlc. They give everyone the shaft.

      • Solomon_Kano

Not really the best case for them giving PS3 the shaft when we still get it eventually. The ORC exclusive content, sure. Making us wait for something we’re still getting at some point? Not the same.

    • Solomon_Kano

This isn’t even a bonus Capcom could compensate 360 owners for. They just threw in all the existing content on PSN, which is mostly things that were already exclusive to Playstation. There’s literally nothing else they could offer you. Your gripe would seem to be with MS, as Capcom can’t do anything about them not having the means to receive the PS3 bonus content. The only thing you’d get would be the Third Strike DLC.

The 5 exclusive characters, that you can complain about. This is literally something that’s only possible because of currently existing Capcom content on Sony’s system. They didn’t do something extra like they did for SFxT, they just gave us stuff that was already available.

  • Sheimi12

    Consider this bought Capcom!

  • Heavenly_King

Street Fighter X Tekken is available for download? O_o

  • British_Otaku

Seems like a pretty cool deal considering CAPCOM’s reputation (well they aren’t as bad as they were our best friend but now with a dark side)…

I would be more interested if it was all physical but then I won’t afford it aside from other LEs in the coming half a year.

    Not bad at all.

  • scratchbach

I want this so bad. I just don’t know if it’s worth it, considering I already own all of the games. The box, statue, and all of those discs are…tempting.

  • While I love Street Fighter I’m not paying 150 dollars for games I owned 3 times each already. How about make something new or give us something really special.

I’d rather get Resident Evil 6 demo and that exclusive X360 DLC campaign for Operation Raccoon City, since I’m not interested in Street Fighter. However, Capcom knows better than me what I want.

Not to mention that Operation Raccoon City is selling better on X360 than on PS3.

    • Nemesis_Dawn

So, why would they give the special things to PS3 owners?

Capcom are very smart with their exclusives. PS3 owners get exclusive stuff on their fighters because fighters sell more on PS3. 360 owners get exclusive stuff on action games, because those will sell better on 360. It’s a very smart strategy.

Of course, you could always do what I do and just own both systems.

    • Solomon_Kano

Why did you come to this article if you aren’t interested in SF? Your comment didn’t even have anything to do with the article.

Besides, the RE6 demo will be available to everyone at a later date anyway and, with your note that ORC is selling better on 360, wouldn’t it make sense as to why that’s still 360 exclusive?

  • SirRichard

It’s a seriously ridiculous collection. 175 avatars for the PS3 probably puts Street Fighter as the series with the single most amount of avatars to its name alone, let alone another four games chucked in for good measure.

  • OatMatadoQuatro

Looks like Capcom understands what SF anime sell more. SFII was pretty good in contrast to the Alpha movie. Then there’s is also that cartoon based on Van Damme’s movie (god it’s painfu!l)

    • SaiyanJedi_Trunks

      • It can be amusingly corny at times, but it is a cartoon series that launched an armada of memes that gave the SF series a bonus helping of LOLs.

  • SaiyanJedi_Trunks

Sounds likefa win for the PS3…however, I am still on the fence about putting out $150…since I own most of the games already….

  • Solomon_Kano

    My word.

I already wanted this, so it’s freaking great to see that there’s even more content than  what already sold me on this package. Sweetness.

  • Göran Isacson

I wonder if this is simply because those games are available on the PSN and not on Xbox Live, or if they’re just holding out because Sony paid them to include more freebies/they like Sony more/bad experiences working with Microsoft etc, etc…

    • d19xx

It’s likely the former. Sony and Capcpom have a bumpy relationship…

      • Göran Isacson

Wow, really? I would have thought that considering the PS3 version had extra characters and extra features, they would get along much better with Sony than with Microsoft.

        • Laharl

SF team seems to like Sony.
RE team however seems to favor MS

        • Code

          I don’t figure Capcom has a particular grudge against either company, they do what it takes to make money, between MHF on 360, extra SFxT characters on PS3, the RE6 demo on 360, all this says to me is Capcom doesn’t reject money hats >w<;

    • malek86

Most probably the former. Since giving out download codes doesn’t have any cost for them, they can do it. Putting them on 360 would require work, and they are not willing to do that. It would also mean having to pass certification, which would make things even slower.

Although, I guess they could have added the SF3 DLC on 360 too. But maybe Microsoft (or Sony?) didn’t like that idea.

      • Göran Isacson

So the other SF games (Alpha games, SF3, etc) really AREN’T available on Xbox Live? I had no idea- I thought Capcom had released them on both downloadable platforms.

        • malek86

Those other SF games are all PSOne Classics. They are simply ISO’s made to work with a PS1 emulator on the PS3. They are not on the 360 because… I don’t know, but I imagine Capcom doesn’t want to, or maybe can’t, make a PS1 emulator for the 360 (although, I’m not sure what was the status with Symphony of the Night).

As for Alpha Max 3, it’s a PSP game, so yeah. It’s also worth noting that you won’t be able to play it on the PS3 itself. This collection is a bit all over the place, honestly.

  • Pretty great deal regardless of your system choice (if you don’t actually own any of the games, of course). That being said, the PS3 bonuses are…okay. Alpha 1-3 are less-than-perfect PSOne ports and don’t you need a PSP to play Alpha 3 Max?

    • kupomogli

You already get Alpha 3 for PSX, but for the PSP and Vita owners, Alpha 3 Max is the definitive version of SFA3. Well. Technically the CPS2 version is the definitive version, but if you want World Tour mode, then Alpha 3 Max.

  • Oni123

Any news on a UK release yet? *crosses fingers*

  • Just a quick question… the “animated series” is the crappy north american horrible garbage? or the awesome and beautiful japanese anime? (I believe is the first one… but please, PLEASE tell me I’m wrong!)

    • I wouldn’t use “awesome” and “beautiful” to describe Street Fighter II V at all.

Also, it’s the cartoon series that debuted on the USA Network’s Cartoon Express. Enjoy your Bisons.

  • Kitestwinblades

Now where talkin’. Although I really want this for everything before SFIV. I’m late to the series and I’d like to try out the old games. Plus I missed the anime and I love the music. I think Kariu might have got his submission into that collection too.
I’m might as well consider myself broke by late of fall >_<

They need to make more Anniversary Box Collection boxes this for other series as well. I drool at the thought of a megaman or darkstalkers box like this XD

  • Haohmaru HL

that moment when you have each of these games separately and still urge to get it

  • Pope The Rev XXVIII

AGAIN Capcom should just go out and admit they’re Sony Fantards!

    • M’iau M’iaut

These ‘new’ games are all from a generation before the XBox and I’m not quite sure how many will even bother going through 175 tiny avatars. Companies make business decisions all the time, and in this case it does appear Sony has paid a bit more or otherwise arranged for more material. Things are what they are.

Also mentioned on an earlier one of your posts, but please take the time to elaborate your feelings and not just pass on a few words of internet hate.

    • If you have nothing better to say than what essentially boils down to “Capcom sucks” or “I hate Capcom” or the likes, save it for another site.

    • Silver Phoenix

The only tard here is you. Apparently you’ve been living under a rock this entire generation, because if anything Capcom has favored Microsoft and the Xbox360 more than any other system and company. Did you forget about Dead Rising exclusive DLC and timed-exclusive DLC? How about Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City Nemesis Mode? How about ALL of Resident Evil 6 having timed-exclusive DLC on Xbox 360? There’s more but if you need more examples you’re going to have to do the work yourself.

The only exclusives PS3 have gotten recently are this extra stuff in the SF Anniversary Collection, and Cole and a few exclusive Street Fighter vs Tekken characters.

The RE6 Anthology/Archives is different for each system. Now shut up Xbot.
