Haunting Ground Ready To Spook PlayStation 3 As A PS2 Classic

By Spencer . July 24, 2012 . 7:56am

45226-5-2One of Capcom’s PlayStation 2 horror games is about to come back as a PlayStation Network download. The ESRB rated Haunting Ground for PlayStation 3 with Sony Computer Entertainment as the publisher indicating a PSN re-release is on the horizon.

After Capcom signed on to publish Clock Tower 3, they created their own Clock Tower-like game. In Haunting Ground, you have to help Fiona and her dog Hewie escape a castle and evade enemies that chase you. I’d say it’s kind of like playing a slasher movie since you’re just a regular girl and you don’t have a rocket launcher.

While it as rare like Rule of Rose, Haunting Ground isn’t a common game either. Perhaps, a new generation of gamers will get to check it out for $10 or so and understand Joe the Condor’s ending in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom.

  • Syltique

This is really great news, and will be the first PS2 Classic I buy.  I was just thinking about getting this, and copies are expensive now.

Preparing my body for preg………..i mean good ending here.^_^

      • MrRobbyM

That was a really weird but hilarious ending :P

        • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Yup.^_^ I thought somebody is going to get angry with me here though lol for loving some weird ending there.^_^

  • Hmm, I’ll check this out.

  • Valkenhayn

Awwwww yeah! I miss this game, I’m definitely buying this for my friend

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

    Fiona in HD?

    • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Prepare yourself for juicy or bouncy there lol.^_^

    • LustEnvy

Not an HD port. It’s a barebones PS2 version.

  • xavier axol

the only horror game i know is silent hill, so i’ll be sure to check it out (but i want more info.).

  • CasualGamer

I wish they would improve the dog’s AI. It makes the game so frustrating to play.

  • CasualGamer

    newbie error

  • AlteisenX

The PS2 archive [or whatever it’s dubbed as] really has odd choices for games on there. Who would’ve thought Haunting Ground would show up. Heck, who would’ve thought Odin Sphere would have?

I just wish I could get some more rare PS2 games like dot.hack series [missing the 4th game in the 1st series], Suikoden III, IV, and V [and II if it’s not out yet for PSOne Classics], and some SMT games [Nocturne, Digital Devil Saga, Devil Summoner]. A lot of those games that I mentioned are high priced still on ebay sadly. $50 for a PS2 game is a lot now, as much as it’s worth  every penny…

  • Nitraion

Hmm never heard of this game…

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Damn, read to fast there.T_T Thought that we are going to get new Haunting Ground there.T_T

    • Nitraion

It seems i missing this game in my PS2 days what is this game about?
is it like silent hill or something?

      • sunK1D

There is no supernatural tone to it so no it isn’t like Silent Hill, it’s more like Resident Evil Code: Veronica if you’ve played that but like the article says “no rocket launchers lol.” Aside from being able to kick, you have no weapons and just a dog to help you out. You basically avoid fights almost the whole game but then again there are only 4 enemies in the whole game i believe so you just go around solving puzzles and avoid them when you can cause they will want to rape you every time they see you(and i really mean rape).

I still have this game on my games shelf, haven’t played it in years though.

        • Nitraion

What Rape you? you mean Literally?…. That is not supernatural alright… Lol XD
It seems I must try this game…

  • TheCynicalReaper

AH, yes. I forgot this game. I tried to help this girl out so much, but everything with a heartbeat (aside from that badass dog) just wanted to have sex with her. It was like being the only sober girl at a drunken frat party.

Never had a game where a character ripped my womb out before…and worse.

  • The Grim Heaper

Don’t worry, guys! Dora The Explorer: Dora Saves the Mermaids is coming too!

Thank you CAPCOM, thank you SO MUCH dear Capcom! Haunting Ground is surely one of my fav games ever, love it so much. I spent so many hours playing it and beat it many times. Not to mention that game has it’s own in-game achievements/trophy system.

News of the week. Plz hurry up Fiona & Hewie!

  • Whoa! Please release this in the European psn! I’ve been wanting to play this game for a while now.

Also, a Rule of Rose PSN re-release would also be epic.

  • amagidyne

I can’t remember if this game was creepy in a good way or in a bad way.

    • SirTeffy

       Both at the same time.

  • Chow

I always wondered why they didn’t just make this part of the Clock Tower series, since they own both properties. The premises were also fairly identical, although Clock Tower 3 because weird because of… time travel and fantastical magic, was it? (I can’t remember).

However, I do remember Haunting Ground clearly, and the character relations were rather… disturbing to say the least. (those who know what I’m talking about… will understand why I say that LOL).

But yeah, I remember the panic moments when Fiona was actually scrambling to get away from her attackers to be especially frightening.  As a person who normally doesn’t get cold fingers, I remember those moments draining the blood from my fingers.

Rule of Rose would be a good release as well, now that it’s been mentioned.  Amazing symbolism/story/characterization, hampered by the worst controls ever, however.

    •  I would like to see them bring back the Clock Tower series, especially now that RE is absolutely action orientated. They don’t seem too interested in filling the horror quota these days, though…
CT3 was really the offbeat entry in the series with the magic and all that, while the previous CT games were really just young, defenseless characters against maniacs.
The voice acting was crazy too ><

  • leadintea

    Hewie!!!! :D

  • Rihawf

Oh my god, this is so great!
I hope people support this game so much it will receive it’s deserved attention.
    Also, Daniella in HD!

  • Closet_Ninja

man i just bought this on the ps2

    • amagidyne

That’s not bad, unless you paid a lot for it. PS2 Classics are straight ports with no upgrades.

  • I was under the impression that the PSN PS2 Classics line was just for direct ports, not HD ports?

  • GibbRS

This is one of my favorite PS2 horror games.  It’s very well done, with interesting and creepy characters, and some really terrifying moments.

  • BelmontHeir

One of the best survival-horror games of last-gen…really, a must play for fans of the genre. I’ll be happy if this game gets a second lease on life due to the PSN release.

    • Rihawf

       That should be the plan!
I’d like to recommend the game to more friends because I’m sure it deserves more love.

  • d19xx

I get to hear Daniella’s creepy laugh again. :)

  • Valtiel Ikari

my girlfriend thinks Debilitas is cute afther you forgive his life.

    • Rihawf

He gets really “innocent” and actually good after that.
He does think of Fiona as a goddess.

      • Valtiel Ikari

yeah I know, it’s just that I never did expect her (my girl) to think that the firts time she saw the game, she entered the room just when I defeated him (while he was worshipping Fiona) then my girl was like silent for a couple of seconds and she goes all cute and say “he’s cute”

  • Nyandroid

YES! YES! YES! I missed out on this one the first time around! So glad for another chance to get my hands on it!

  • Alexandra Cordes

Aww yeah. I love this game, and this will give a lot more people a chance to experience it.

P.S. All of you will fall in love with Hewie if you haven’t already.

  • apricotsushi

Do you mean “isn’t as rare as Rule of Rose”?

  • I’m a huge horror game fan, but I somehow missed out on this one. Maybe because I wasn’t too crazy about Clock Tower 3 and I heard this was sort of based on that.
I’ll definitely check it out when it’s released, though. I’ll take any horror game I missed out on these days.

  • NoOneSeesWhatWeSee

Sounds like an opportunity to pick up a game I missed out on. Unfortunately, this still means it’s just 480p. Meaning it would look better on a PlayStation 2 emulator than the PlayStation 3.

Also, what is with the fact I can tell just from looking by her face that she was made by a Japanese developer? She doesn’t look remotely anime. Nor does she look Japanese. But as soon as you see a face like that, you’re like “yep, Japanese developer.”

    • Faces look so much better in Japanese games. They concentrate on animating them, more then making them look real. When you try to make them look “real” like GTA, they look like unnatural puppets.
