Samurai Warriors 4 Planned For February 2014 Release

By Ishaan . July 26, 2012 . 11:01am

Tecmo Koei producer, Hisashi Koinuma, has announced a release window for Samurai Warriors 4. Game Jouhou reports that Koinuma mentioned game on Twitter, and shared that, while this isn’t officially confirmed, Tecmo Koei hope to release it sometime during February 2014.

February 2014 is a ways off, but there’s a reason that Tecmo Koei are waiting—it’s because that period marks the 10-year anniversary of the Samurai Warriors series, which began in February 2004.

In the meantime, Tecmo Koei will release Samurai Warriors: Chronicles 2nd (above) for the Nintendo 3DS. That game is scheduled for release on September 13th, and has new generals, branching storylines with multiple endings, and enhanced character customization.

Although I prefer Samurai Warriors to Dynasty Warriors, I’m not going to be waiting on games I can’t play within the year it was announced.

And when 2014 comes around I probably won’t care for the game either because there will definitely be better games out at that time.

    • Testsubject909

I’d say with a release date like 2014, we’ll all probably forget about it until it gets announced late in 2013 and then, when we’ll have some gameplay trailers and whatnot, that’s when we’d be able to get excited for it.

Right now? It’s just pleasant knowledge to know that they’re working on it is all.

Please Samurai Warriors 4 be in PS3 instead of Wii lol.

I will say this once and only once–we really do not encourage the console war nonsense around here. I see you’re new here, so please read our posting guidelines before leaving any further comments: http://bit.ly/LIfktr

I’ve always been curious but how long has the site been around?

        • http://www.siliconera.com/ Ishaan

That’s a good question. I think 2004 or 2005? It goes back quite a few years, but I don’t remember just when it was started up exactly. I know Spence was doing import reviews long before any of our other staff came on board.

Thanks for the info though I do regret not finding the site earlier than I did… A whole lot less bias than other sites without the flaming in the comments

Thanks for the kind words. :)

I know some people don’t like that we can be a little strict with the console rule, but it’s there precisely because this fandom–the niche gamer segment in particular–is so susceptible to petty console warring.

I want 2nd to come to the west, it was my favorite game on the 3ds until Mario 3D Land. It is still one of the best.

    • andref

I’m worried it has no chance since it seems the game was discontinued not that long into the summer of that same year

Aw, 2014?? That’s so far off!! Oh well, I have Warriors Orochi 3 and Samurai Warriors Chronicles 1 to keep me occupied! 2004?? Wow! I remember begging my dad to buy the first SW! I was 12 and managed to get my brother to play the first two stages of Oichi’s story before he gave up. I wonder which characters they’ll announce for SW4…

    • Testsubject909

You probably should’ve gave him a different starting character.

Oichi isn’t exactly newcomer friendly despite being quite powerful pending which game. In SW3 for example, she’s only really OP if you’re playing co-op.

I mean, I played Oichi with a friend in SW3 and… Oh boy. I just spam my special, continuously healing him while simultaneously refilling my Musou Bar.

The entire battle was him tanking while invincible as I just spammed Musous and healing.

      • rinalicat

I know but I was 12 and I just nagged him to play it with me; plus, it’s not really his sort of game anyway. He’s one of those people that plays either shoot-’em-ups, Grand Theft Auto or the Sims. My types of games just bore him to tears.

        • Testsubject909

*shrugs* ah well. You want to play some co-op online, then pass me your PSN.

I got Warriors Orochi 3 and Dynasty Warriors 7 and XL.

          • http://twitter.com/RaiuLyn Raiu

I would love to play with you in WO3, DW7 and XL….. That is if their online component does bloody work…. This is one of those half-assed multiplayer being shoe-horned into just for the sake of it….

  • LunarKnite

Totally forgot a 2nd Chronicles game was going to come out for the 3DS before this article. It was definitely the game that made me look past the mediocre launch of the 3DS considering I sunk over 80 hours into it.

Being a huge Warriors fan, I’m excited for both Chronicles and to see what improvements they make with SW4.

2014 huh. i almost don’t see the point in annoucing it now then. I can’t imagine any reason a Warriors game would take that long from it’s announcement to be released unless they intend to do something revolutionary.

  • http://www.segalization.com/ Kuronoa

I want to play Chronicles 2nd, I loved the 3DS game.
I also addicted to the Wii SW3.  In general I just have to play both these games.

    • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Yeah.^_^ The chronicles 2nd for 3DS is probably what hypes me more considering i waste more than 100 hour for the first one there.^_^

The original officer conversation is fun to read there.^_^ Some is mostly tragedy like “Oichi” while some is pure funny things like Masamune meet Nobunaga there.^_^

  • http://twitter.com/RaiuLyn Raiu

    2014!!???

It will be interesting on what platform it will be on when that time comes….

  • Testsubject909

I know we’re not supposed to go on about consoles but having experienced Samurai Warriors 3 on the Wii, I’d have to say that it felt like a step backwards from it’s PS2 era version, gameplay wise.

Mind you, I did play it in split screen so that might have affected the game, but I found that the attack animations felt oddly slow with a bit of a (edit: Might also be due to the characters I tried, but comparatively to the way they played in Warriors Orochi 3, it definitely felt… slow and odd) wind up that continuously bothered me. Actually a whole slew of minor technical issues (edit: Like the draw distance. I’ve played DW for a long while so I’m used to the whole enemy groups pops out of nowhere thing but…) kept me from properly enjoying Samurai Warriors 3 despite the fact that it has a lot of content that would usually keep me more then pleasantly pleased.

As such, I can’t help but hope that it’s on the PS3/360 and possibly Wii U. Then again, with that launch date, it’ll probably be available for Wii U.

    • Mr_SP

Indeed. Compared to PS3/Xbox360 DW-type games, it was nowhere near as impressive. I’m quite disappointed that the PS3 version was not made available to us.

      • Testsubject909

        Not just that.

Go play Samurai Warriors 2 on the PS2.

Then go play Samurai Warriors 3 on the Wii.

It feels almost as if there were a few small steps back from the PS2 era on the Wii version of Samurai Warriors 3… And yeah, it’s a shame we didn’t get the upgraded PS3 version.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

I have always like Samurai series than Dynasty series here.^_^(Who don’t like Nobunaga here The King of Trolls lol.^_^)

This news makes me kinda happy and sad lol. It is a good news that they are focusing and giving more effort for the new SW game considering i also really like SW 3 there.^_^ However 2014?T_T Man thats one far release date there.T_T
