Silent Hill HD Collection Patch Ready For PS3, Canceled For Xbox 360

By Spencer . August 8, 2012 . 4:25pm

imageSilent Hill HD Collection came out on March 20 with noticeable bugs. Konami just released a title update to fix framerate and audio-synching issues, but unfortunately only PlayStation 3 owners will get the patch.

"Plans for an Xbox 360 title update have been cancelled due to technical issues and resources," an e-mail from Konami reads. The publisher continued with an apology to players "who are continuing to experience these issues on the Xbox 360 sku."

    Wait. What?

They put out physical product. Ignoring the fact that anyone without an online connection was already screwed, they can’t simply cancel a fix unless a recall/refund offer is announced right with it.

    • Well, they just did. And guess what? They keep selling the game to Xbox owners knowing fully well they will be screwed. When did we stopped mattering anymore to you Konami?

  • Tales_of_Master

    Well that sucks O_O

  • Poor Xbox

  • SirRichard

Konami have seriously messed up what should’ve be a very simple port and polish job.  The biggest one, the one that made me laugh out loud, was the series producer Tomm Hulett coming out and admitting that the original finished source code was lost, and that they had to work off of an unfinished code and slot in the gaps by removing assets from a compiled copy of the game to finish it up.

And now they won’t even come back and finish the job for one large part of their audience. Great work, fellas.

    • Nemesis_Dawn

Well, Blue Point games have come out and said that they don’t use the code, they use the finished PS2 game and reverse-engineer from there, so I think Tom Hulett is just coming up with excuses, if the best in the business at PS2-to-PS3/360 are saying that he didn’t need the finished code.

      • SirRichard

That’s also entirely possible, this is the same guy who tried to pass off leaving out Silent Hill 4 as a matter of it not being liked by fans. Didn’t know that tidbit about Bluepoint either, that’s pretty damning.

        • Nemesis_Dawn

It was from an article on 1up, where Hulett not only used the unfinished code excuse, only to be rebutted by Blue Point saying they don’t use the code at all, but he had the nerve to put down their port of Ico for adding the European (I think it was the European version that had the extra stuff. Could be the Japanese. Either way…) version elements to all versions. According to him, that ruined the port for him, since it added elements he had to learn for the first time, instead of being able to just speedrun it the first time he booted it up.

  • What is going on?

I know it’s hard to remaster a game that has missing pieces, but are they just going to give up on it? I was pretty surprised that they even let this out the gate, but to just duct tape it back together like this is kind of unforgivable.

I.. I dunno. I don’t normally get riled up over stuff like this. It’s kind of them enough to patch up the PS3 version, I suppose. I mean, after the reputation that this game already has, I can’t imagine that they’re patching the game for any new buyers.

It’s a shame. It really is. I really wanted to pick this up.

    • SirRichard

You could honestly probably get the two games’ original PS2 releases for around the same price as the collection, if Amazon (UK) is any indication. Better off that way, really.

      • I know, I know… It’s just the HD looks pretty. :I

I’m not normally a graphics person, but I just love SH2 that much.

      • Testsubject909

A local shop has both of them, I could buy them for less then 25$ combined. I probably will soon.

  • Koulamatata

Wow, last time I buy a game from Hijinx Studios

    “Suck it XBox!”

  • Aqua King

This is so unprofessional. The game should have never been released with these bugs.

    • Colonel Custard

Well it happens more often than not. Take SWKOTOR 2 for example missing planets, VA’s, bugs, and a rushed ending. However, the developers came out and stated lack of money and time were the reasons.(sound like an excuse but, whatever.) While I do agree that it is, abhorrently unprofessional to make games like that, there is the flip side in which some people could really care less about how buggy the game is because of the need to play a labeled game.

      • Daru Titor

There was a Restored Content Mod released July 24.
You should be able to find it on ModDB and possibly GameFront

  • ResidentMetroid

Wow not a good day for Xbox today! :(

  • Testsubject909

Eh… ya know what? I have a working PS2, my PS3 is digitally compatible to PS2 games (80GB version) and a local music and used game shop has both Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3 on sale, totalling together less then 25$

Having seen the graphical issues in the prior articles, it’s not the framerate or audiosync that would worry me, it’s the lack of proper fog.

Though… back on track… I wonder what sort of technical issues they’re having exactly.

By the way: “who are continuing to experience these issues on the Xbox 360 sku.”

    • :X Do they mean “stock keeping unit”? If so, then I think it’s just another way of saying product.

      • Locklear93

They do mean stock keeping unit there, yeah.  Game publishers frequently refer to a specific version of a single game (360 version, PS3 version, PC version, limited edition version, even more limited edition version–any individual product of a given title) as a SKU.

    • Daru Titor

I still have a copy of each from’s buy 2 get 1 free sale.

  • Repede91

I hear echoes of Phil Fish in this thread…

  • Vadim Merzhey

Xbox owners – play on PC.

  • Whoomp

Just another day of wonderful decisions at Konami. This is the last straw, Downpour will be known as the last game I bought new from them. At least they are still fixing the bugs and glitches with that, right? RIGHT?!

  • Crimson_Cloud

    Unprofessional. Nothing else to say.
