Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance Cuts Into Gamescom With Robot Dog Boss

By Spencer . August 15, 2012 . 1:32am

It’s Aibo with a chainsaw! Raiden has to slice up this metallic menace in Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and judging from the trailer it’s just one of the many enemies players will cut down when the game comes out in February.

  • 20 seconds of new content… yay -.-

    • XiaomuArisu

For you its Tuesday but for me it was awesome 20 seconds!

  • z_merquise

Bit disappointed because I was expecting an all-new trailer but the last part is totally worth it.

And yeah, 2/21/2013. A confirmed release date!

The robot dog looked cool. You know what made instantly thought of? The unused robot dog in Vanquish:

Looks like Platinum’s cool idea of a robot dog assisting the player wasn’t put into waste then.

  • Rasec46

Yayyyy! He wave a cute little doggy.
A crazy assassin doggy with huge claws and a saw. *_*

    • Godmars

He gets a cute doggy after it tries to kill him.

And sure, you may say to yourself  such a thing never happened to Snake, but when MGS4 came around four of his bosses paraded around provocatively.

Though it is sad I have to emphasis that they were sexy women – because of naked Raiden cartwheels in MGS2!

      • Rasec46

NOO!! I did you have to remember me the weird naked Raiden cartwheels!! T__T
Where’s the dislike button! xD Just kidding! xP

  • badmoogle

Looks like it will have lots of QTE. :/

    • XiaomuArisu

       Why?Because you saw Raiden blocking a chainsaw-dog(!)in a cutscene?

      • badmoogle

Look at 2:46-2:55.I may be wrong but to me it looks like there are a couple of QTEs in there.

        • XiaomuArisu

Oh that…well Bayonnetta had such scenes too they were awesome and rare the rest was gameplay.I dont think that this game will be different.

          • badmoogle

Well to each their own,but personally i didn’t like them in Bayo either (especially when they are like that one which came right after a cutscene).I prefer my action games to be completely free of such gimmicks.

          • DemonKingAsura

And Yet Cutscenes should go completely button prompt free like most Rpgs nowadays do it?

No thank you, I want to at least try and do something.

          • badmoogle

@facebook-100002285632280:disqus Well if they kept the cutscenes to a minimum that shouldn’t be a problem.Cutscenes (with or without QTEs) break the immersion for me especially in action games.Their only use should be in the end of a level just to help move the story and pace from point A to point B.Unfortunately most developers today think they are making Hollywood movies instead of games and they cripple their gameplay by doing so.
And it’s an illusion that you actually do something.Even a monkey can learn to press a button at the right time.

  • I hope no dogs were harmed in the process of making the trailer.
It also seems like the dog became his partner at the end of video, if that’s the case it’s awesome.
Also hope that the dog helps in battle or even better we get to play as it.

  • PoweredByHentai

Somehow, I want to play this game with the PS Move controller set.  Especially for the slicing and dicing segments.

  • karasuKumo

To be honest as good as this looks gameplay wise I don’t think I could play through another game where light and darkness, inner conflict and revenge are the main themes. Sounds like something out of a bad JRPG. I don’t really see anything original which is a bit disappointing.

    • margherita mastropaolo

come on it will be a great game with excellent gameplay and deep and compelling story,i can’t wait to try it

  • OatMatadoQuatro

There needs to be a new story trailer. I still don’t know who are Raiden’s superiors, his enemies or the reason he is fighting for.

    • z_merquise

I’m sure they’re going to reveal it soon. At TGS 2012, maybe.

    • theoriginaled

Knowing the metal gear series, you can safely assume
      a) his superiors are the real bad guys. possibly the final boss, possibly in disguise
      b) his enemies are not as bad as his superiors but still of a dubious nature though potentially more justified in their plans than his superiors are.
      c) he “doesnt know the reason he his fighting” other than that its “all he knows”

  • Shadowman

Ah man. I wish we didn’t have to kill that dog we can program it and train it to attack the bad guys.

  • eilegz

not bad now its looking good again, pretty hyped, the previous announcement was a disappointment  because of the crappy graphics

  • Domii

Whoa, for a second there I thought this was coming out in the same time of DmC. Picking this up day 1 now.

  • Göran Isacson

I do hope we get to see more black characters in this game that do more than just die so that Raiden can go on a rampage to “make things right”, which you’d think be more complicated than just dicing people up…

Ah welp- not like I have any hopes of this games story being anything like old times complexity: from the second I realized that we take a chain-saw dog and apparently turn it into our co-op partner, I think expecting this to try and be realistic and treat wars in the third world with any kind of actual gravitas and concern is a fools errand.

Also, am I the only on hearing the Lex Luthor “WRONG” at one point in the trailer?

    •  When has Metal Gear ever been realistic?

      • Göran Isacson

I see this argument pop up every now and then, and I will admit: Metal Gear Solid had many silly things. It had super soliders with super powers. It played fast and loose with genetics, and the sheer amount of poop jokes boggled the mind.

But. But but but. It also had a lot to say, perhaps just in one voice and often repeated, but it had something to say about the complexities of cold war, of survivors guilt, of working hard for your country only to receive nothing in return. It tried there were things in the game which really tried to say something about warfare and what it does to people. Debate the quality of that attempt as you will, but it still tried.

This game seems to say “screw that noise, it just gets in the way of me cutting SKYSCRAPERS WITH MY VORPAL KATANA” and just goes hogwild. There are plenty of games like that out there, and I am increasingly unsure if Metal Gear had to add to the pile.

        • margherita mastropaolo

oh come this game will be great plus is directed by team kojima, you can’t have any doubts on the story’s quality

        • Laharl

Yea, it just had guys crapping in a Oil Drum and Breakdancing with Gekko’s on his leg…

          • Göran Isacson

Which I did acknowledge, yes. Still quite a difference between that, and what we’re seeing here.

          • Laharl

Then you should realize that Rising is a Character Study of Raiden.

          • Göran Isacson

But why should I realize that? What we see so far mostly just looks like it’s a regression: Raiden is all gung-ho crazy about killing people like he was back when he was Jack the Ripper, in the name of creating a mood that’s more consistent with an action-game, and I don’t see how this story could be anything but a rethread of ground we’ve already covered before.

And again, don’t get me wrong: I’m sure this will be a fantastic action-game. But from what they’ve shown so far, the mechanics and the mood they’ve set so far in the trailers does NOT match the kind of tone you’d need for a “character study”.

          • Laharl

There is an entire Chunk is explaining his past and all the times he was Betrayed. If it was just “KILL THINGS CUZ” They wouldn’t bother re-capping his horrible life.

  • LynxAmali

    Kill Raiden, eat Raiden?

Cookie if you get the reference.

  • DemonKingAsura

Hehe, the Dog is Friender. Raiden is now Casshern with a sword. 8D!

    • Zal_Yagun

I remember the Producer of Vanquish saying that he originally wanted a robo-dog companion for Sam…

      Close enough I say..

  • upshc

So wait, he said that AI Wiping was disabled? Does that mean that no one else can change the dog’s new personality and objectives?(I mean since they seem to have changed it from killing Raiden to assisting him)

    • Solomon_Kano

That’s what I got from it.

  • Solomon_Kano

Wait… he has a badass robot dog now!? Yes. YES. YESSS!

    • OatMatadoQuatro

“Raiden I am Dogbot Gear”. Wait, that sounds dumb! XD

      • Solomon_Kano

Snake had the Mk. II… Raiden has the Bark II.

  • Magus KilIer

While this game looks pretty awesome,i hope we can actually play it,instead of watching a 5 hour long movie which occasionally hands you the controls

  • Laharl

    Affirmative Master!

Optimism: belief that everything will work out well. Irrational, bordering on insane.

  • tha_Chiller

ARGGG FVCK!!! *head explodes from the awesome*
