First Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Gameplay Footage

By Spencer . August 16, 2012 . 1:26am

Square Enix had a coming out party for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn and in case you haven’t been following the FFXIV saga this is a total revamp of the MMORPG. JPGames.de recorded footage of a Dragoon and the game’s drag and drop inventory system.

Looks like producer/director Naoki Yoshida really likes showing off the jumping feature. I mean even the chocobos can jump in Final Fantasy XIV. What do you think of the new Final Fantasy XIV? Will you give it a shot?

Its looks really good even for offscreen footage.

Of course I’ll play it. I hope it doesn’t region locking PSN like WKC2 did.
Also I love jump, I think it should be mandatory for any games.

  • komiko12

Goodness. The FFXIV’s world is great. It is different from XIII’s which is very fantasy-like.

    • CirnoLakes

Final Fantasy Online’s lore has always been among the very best the MMORPG has to offer. Final Fantasy XIV is no exception. It’s part of why I was so sad when Final Fantasy XIV bombed and players I was playing with started dissipating.

  • RadShiro

    This feeling…I’ve felt it before.

A strong sense of hope and wanting to play this. I like this.

  • Paradox me

Well, that looks excellent. The areas in particular look like a huge improvement over the current copy/pasted ones. I like the UI as well.

    This can’t come soon enough.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

THis…This is what we should get from the first.^_^

  • badmoogle

I think Yoshida should make FFXV.

    • MrRobbyM

      A million times yes.

  • Draparde

i think it goes without saying that i cannot wait for this… and that i plan to play it (infact i alredy have the ps3 version preordered.)

    • komiko12

      Huh?

      Is there a PS3 version?

      • badmoogle

Not yet but there will be. :p

        • komiko12

Hmm. I just found it a bit weird to pre-order something that has no definite release date.

          • badmoogle

            Well it’s called excitement. :p

But yeah we still don’t know how the PS3 version will end up so i think it will be wise to wait for more info on that front.

          • Anime10121

Well If you find that weird take a look at this :P

Only MGS Revengeance has a definite release, and that happened yesterday.  These are the three oldest things on my preorder list, but I still have quite a few more that have no definite released dates listed.:P

          • komiko12

Haha, still a bit weird for me.

          • Anime10121

Yeah I can understand, although its weird, its just excitement at finally seeing something I want listed so I can preorder it.  Besides Amazon doesn’t actually charge until they ship something anywayz so I usually preorder anything thats fresh on my mind that I want (and is available for preorder).  If I change my mind later on, I’ll just cancel it and go about my business:)

          • komiko12

Ahh. Now, I understand.  Didn’t know how this Amazon works. Never known much about it.

Tons of places have pre-orders available for games that have no set dates. I know I have a pre-order down for Last Guardian with GameStop.

          • Draparde

yeah, pretty much what everyone else has said. i also just wanted out of the way so i wouldn’t have to worry about paying for it later lol.

the ps3 version is supposed to release sometime at the beginning of next year if my memory is correct.

  • Nikolai Sumcad

Oh no. I was half hoping it wouldn’t look nearly appealing to me when it gets remade because work has been keeping me busy and my laptop was on the fritz. But dang. 0.o

So just to clear things up, this will come as a free download (if you have the game of course) and not be bought as an expansion pack right?

    • Paradox me

      Yep, you got it.

      • Nikolai Sumcad

         Got it. Thanks.

    • Anime10121

Yes, it’ll be a free download to those that already own the PC game, and also this will be the version that comes out on PS3 standard.

      • Nikolai Sumcad

         Cool.

I bought the limited edition but never played it because the reviews were terrible. This time around I have a super computer ready with a 27inch 3DHD monitor so I’ll definitely play it. This will probably the most beutiful MMORPG for years to come. Whether it will be any good is another question but I can’t wait to play as a dragoon!

  • Solomon_Kano

It appears my faith in Yoshida was well-placed. This looks great.

    Chocobo music~ <3.

That actually looks/sounds (now why couldnt FFXIII have music like THAT) extremely awesome!!! Hopefully this is the MMORPG that can get me into the genre, although its still doubtful considering I cant play the game at my own pace (have to pay every month regardless of how much you play).

      • Solomon_Kano

Hey, hey, hey now! FFXIII’s music was actually one of it’s redeeming qualities! :P

I’ll grant that it wasn’t half as epic as that, but it definitely was fitting for the game. Not terribly memorable in most parts, but there were some standouts.

        • Anime10121

Yeah XIII had some good songs, but there were far too many remixes to Blinded by Light, and as you said, there werent very many memorable songs.  But a lot of the Pulse music was great (Sunleth Waterscape included)!  I overall liked XIII’s OST though I like XIII-2′s a lot more, but I wouldn’t remember many of XIII’s tracks unless someone either plays them, or I hear them in game my self.

This song from XIV just “seems” more Final Fantasy to me.  I dont know if Uematsu composed this track or not (he is the main composer for XIV if I’m not mistaken) but this sounds like a song that could have come right out of FF1-11 (although I havent played a lot of XI, I have its OST and it is fantastic)!

    • Ultimaniacx4

That video alone hyped me up more than the trailer did.

  • http://www.facebook.com/JDS1087 Justin Smith

Looks like any other MMORPG where fantastic battles, dynamic camera angles, amazing spells, summons, and attacks are all sacrificed for the sake of a boring real time grind fest.

  • http://www.facebook.com/roddzki Lennard Cross

Still waiting for the PS3 version. Q_Q

  • Christopher Nunes

Sadly I don’t have a computer with high-enough specs to play this game with all its great details… though I could care less about graphics even though this game looks beautiful.

When’s the PS3 version coming out?

  • CirnoLakes

Is it bad that I’m particularly impressed by the jumping. There’s a lot about Tera Online I didn’t like as much as Final Fantasy XIV. For instance, the half naked women out there and a not nearly as interesting lore as Final Fantasy XIV. But among the little things that added to the Tera Online experience, that you could interact with the landscape, not just the monsters, in an action RPG fashion. For instance, you would swim, and jump, and jump from long leaps. And climb mountains. When you were bored of grinding, you could go jump up a mount, and jump back down from a gigantic ledge into water and swim to another island. That’s something Final Fantasy XIV did not have. And while I may not see proper swimming or mountain climbing. I do see jumping from one area of the field to another, jumping not only existing, but being incorporated well into the gameplay. And that is a very nice improvement.

Maybe I’m late to this, and it was added long before the realm reborn update. But when I was playing Final Fantasy XIV, jumping was not in the game. It’s true that I haven’t played XIV in a long while, and thus don’t know much about the pre-reborn changes. In fact, this new Final Fantasy XIV is a little alien and scary, XIV needed some changes, I’m afraid of losing some things about the game I did like. And my level 27 Thaumaturge Lalafell from Gridania. But what I see looks good, whatever the circumstances.
