Harvest Moon: It’s a Wonderful Life And River King Are New PlayStation 2 Classics

By Ishaan . September 17, 2012 . 10:20am

Natsume are releasing Harvest Moon: It’s a Wonderful Life as a PlayStation 2 Classic via the PlayStation Network this week. Originally released for the GameCube, this is the very Harvest Moon game that allowed the player to have children after marriage, and then play as their kids.

The PlayStation 2 version of the game added a few new features when it was released a year later. It lets you play either as a boy or a girl child in the game’s second half, and adds a fourth bachelorette, Lumina, as well.

Also out from Natsume as a PS2 Classic this week is River King: A Wonderful Journey, another in their long-running simulation-meets-fishing RPG series.

This is pretty awesome, since I was intending on getting this for a bit. Will get it immediately tomorrow.

The PS2′s loading time was so incredibly slow that I never bothered to finish a day because the loading screen appeared every time you enter a door. And they also got rid of the high selling price of bananas which was my main way of getting money in the GC version. I don’t mind the banana thing, but if the loading time isn’t fixed then I won’t be getting this.

If it’s anything like the PSN release of Psychonauts, the PS3 hardware/lack of a disc should help remedy lag and overly long loading times.

Loading times are pretty much cut due to the fact that a laser is not reading a disc.

        Really?That would be great!
I really wanted to like the game back in the day but the loading times pretty much killed it for me.The animation was also kinda slow from what i remember. But i might double dip if what you say is true.

Is the crippling lag from HM gone in this version?

  • Steven Boivin

Better than Save the Homeland at the very least… Still prefer Back to Nature though.

i miss HM i wish Natsume would make HM games on ps3

Except Natsume doesn’t make Harvest Moon. Natsume only localize them. Marvelous Entertainment makes Harvest Moon (as well as Rune Factory).

        oh ok lol

I will be buying River King so fast! I’ve been trying to track down the N64 version as well.

Harvest Moon A wonderful Life is the main reason I love Harvest Moon. I spent a good week straight playing that game when I was younger, and it’s now the reason I’m utterly in love with cows!

    YAY MY FAVE HARVEST MOON!

  • Reiko_Chan

My first and favorite Harvest Moon game! I really wish they would take some elements from this game and implement them into the newer games, namely the kids.

On the other hand, the loading times were bigger on the PS2 version

Still, loved the friggin’ game. I even bought both versions, married Celia and Muffy on the GCN (only had two save files), and Nami and Lumina on the PS2 version.

  • puchinri

Wahoo, River King~! I can’t wait to play it! I might get AWL though, as well. But I loved my girl version for GC.
