Darkstalkers Resurrection Bundle Includes The Night Warriors And Darkstalkers 3

By Ishaan . October 11, 2012 . 3:28pm

Capcom haven’t announced a new Darkstalkers game yet, but they did announce an updated re-release of both Night Warriors: Darkstalkers Revenge and Darkstalkers 3 at the New York Comic-Con today.

The bundle, titled Darkstalkers Resurrection, will be released via Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network, and will be updated with online multiplayer and other new features, similar to the recent Marvel vs. Capcom Origins release.

Both Darkstalkers titles will use the GGPO solution for online multiplayer and will allow for region matching. The game will also include replay sharing with a feature for YouTube or direct server replay uploads, spectator mode, ping lock, and achievements.

Additionally, a Challenge Mode will be included, and will also serve as a Tutorial Mode of sorts, providing in-depth tips for each character. Finally, you’ll also be able to unlock a vault of concept art using “Vault Points”.

Darkstalkers Resurrection will be released in early 2013 for 1200 Microsoft Points or $14.99 on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network.

Update: Official announcement details added.

  • Spider-Man

I only came here because of how Morrigan was holding Lilith, honestly.

  • MrSirFeatherFang

I don’t see the point of having new artwork. Do they need to pay for the license to re-use an artist’s old work?
Well it’s cool that older games are being ported to have online play. I guess fans have been demanding this one for a while.

  • Shadowman

Oh yeah!! I’ve have been playing this game on the PSP a long time ago.

  • ivanchu77

Testing the waters before making a darkstalkers 4 huh?

Having online makes this a day 1 for me, I hope it sells well

  • Lunir Malheur

And why not Wii U? Uh… Come on Capcom! Now you cannot say something like “graphics… power… wiiware… blah blah” ):

Well, I sure like they are going to resurrect the franchise, hope MANY Live and Network users buy it (:

      • Lunir Malheur

Ahm… it was just an answer, I know Siliconera it’s not Capcom, and I wished my best to the other console users, that’s not spam nor whinning. Read my post please…

        • Yeah but you did the same thing in the KH HD collection article a while back. Just letting you know don’t this again when X game isn’t announce for Wii U.

  • Don’t you mean 1200 MS Points Ishaan? ;P

Anyway, SO FREAKING HYPED for this. Been wanting a solid xbla/psn port of arcade Vampire Savior for ages. Glad Capcom finally got around to doing it!
While I think a port of Vampire Chronicles (Dreamcast / PSP) would have been fun as an alternative, this is better. An absolute arcade perfect port on modern consoles gives me some hope for even a tiny revival of interest in Darkstalkers competitive play! :D

    • Whoops, fixed! Capcom had a typo in their press release and I can never remember the conversion for $ into MS Points.

      • Just Tim

Ishaan, Ed, isn’t the rate US$5.00 = 400 Microsoft points?

  • If this does well I hope Darkstalkers 4 is assured.

  • Go2hell66

Wasnt a new installment called dark stalkers are not dead teased as well?

It would be nice to see if capcom can still make a decent fighting game

  • Budgiecat

I guess there’ll be no more actual remakes like SSFII HD Remix.

  • Zonic505

I’ll probably get it, since I’ve have interest in the series (mainly thanks to all the crossovers), plus it’ll gauge interest in a new game in the series.

  • MrJechgo

DS3 for consoles had ALL 18 characters, just like in Chaos Tower for PSP, so it,s all good for those who were concerned about character exclusions. Shadow and Marionette were also playable, but they were just copycats and not actual separate characters (they kill a character and animate it).

It’s good to see Darkstalkers getting the DLC Online treatment, but I would have loved to see a proper DS4 game:
    – Shadow, Marionette and grown-up Anita as true playable characters with unique movesets
    – Ruby Heart and Amingo from MvC2 as playable characters, as they were Darkstalkers scrapped characters
    – A skeleton, a dullahan, a witch, a voodoo shaman, a Springheeled Jack, a garuda and one or two demon lords as new characters
    – Animated intros and endings for each character
    – Story mode for each characters, make it 4 battles each
    – Online mode… and the rest that goes with it
    – Gallery, score attack, missions, training options
    – Japanese/English voicework, like in SSFIV and UMvC3 (no conflict here)
    – 3D graphics, like in SSFIV and UMvC3 as well

THAT would be a true Resurrection ^^

    • Nemesis_Dawn

I agree with many of your ideas, but disagree on some. I do want to see grown up Anita, but I think Ruby Heart, Amingo, Shadow, and Marionette don’t really add anything to the game. I’d like to also see SFIV/SFXT-style rival battles in addition to animated intros and endings. Not sure why you’d want such a short story mode, though. If there’s going to be a separate story mode, besides the arcade endings, rivals, and intros, it should be a big Mortal Kombat-esque mode that goes really in-depth into the mythology of the series. Also, having both a skeleton and a zombie seems redundant, but otherwise, pretty much what you want to see is what I want to see.

    •  “- 3D graphics, like in SSFIV and UMvC3 as well”
Hahahaha noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo…of course even though i say that it will happen cuz…Capcom are lazy but i rather see the 3D style be TvC/MvC3 since SF4 is just ugly

      • MrSirFeatherFang

While I think that’s true as well (laziness), I’ve heard two reasons why they won’t use sprites.

        1. It’s expensive and time consuming
        2. All of their sprite artists have left the company.

I don’t know which is true, but I also think it’s unlikely they’ll ever make another 2D fighter with sprites

      • MrJechgo

I don’t think it’s laziness. HD is killing the 2D genre because the sprites have to be 15 times the regular size and animation frames need to be numerous. Making all of this is costly.

    • Tee Niitris

I just want a well made fighting game with good online, no stupid, gameplay-ruining gimmicks… and Lilith to look cute ^_^.

The rest of the stuff would be a bonus.

Also, I’m for 3D models. I love 2D sprites, but in today’s day and age, 3D’s the way to go. Besides : Well done 3D > Poorly done 2D.

  • NOW they do this…ugh whatever so yeah Darkstalkers 2 and 3..heck yeah

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Darkstalkers, you better do well here. I don’t want another wait for you being “Not Dead” lol.^_^

  • Weren’t there 3 Darkstalkers games? Why only pick 2 of them?

I guess this is cool. Really, really, really, late. But cool.

    • ign0z

2 is basically the same as 1 except with more stuff, if I’m not mistaken. At least the endings are the same as in 1 with an extra scene added.

  • Shane Guidaboni

Good deal, Capcom. I bet this is how they’re going to gauge whether they should make a new Darkstalkers or not.

  • Ty Austin

The DS4 teaser that was created to build internal hype just went up:

  • Hinataharem

This may seem like a silly thing to say, but if you guys want a Darkstalkers 4, now’s the time to speak with your wallets

  • Alex Cattaneo

Lame i want it on dics..ow wel i’ll wil wait for ds4

  • Romangelo

nice!! still waiting for SF Alpha collection (if they have a plan to do)

    • They should just go re-release the Alpha Anthology with all the Online features of Marvel vs Capcom Origins and Darkstalkers Resurrection. That should be fair, right? Because, if they just release an Alpha game like those two with only Alpha 3 Upper + Max and Alpha 2 Gold, well… I guess that’s OK, too. Just don’t put the downgraded versions, Capcom!

  • Göran Isacson

Interesting. Now, I bought the PSP-collection of Darkstalkers games, and I’m interested in knowing if this means I already DO own these games. Or are these games not included on that collection?

    • Kibbitz

Based on this article and wikipedia, I’d say the PSP version, Darkstalkers Chronicles is superior in content, which would mean you already have anything better than what’s being released. However, this is your chance to have it on home console instead of a portable, and with infrastructure to play against others over the net.

      • Göran Isacson

Aaah, gotcha. While I would like to have the ability to play others, budget constraints mean I’m prrrobably gonna pass on this one. Don’t have the money to spend on ALL of the things I want, and all that jazz.

  • Ricardo Guedes

one of the reasons i bought my sega saturn!!

  • Just Tim

Best case scenario: Darkstalkers 4, alongside plot resolutions such as:

    –Jedah vs Morrigan
    –Anita’s maturation as savior
–Donovan’s corruption, through his vampire half

    Worst case scenario(s):

–everybody would go necro for Hsien-ko, just like the time when Lupinko leaked her as the final Capcom character in Vanilla MvC3.  Yes, I even read on Lupinko’s twitter timeline how he referred to Hsien-ko as “mai waifu (sic)”.

–this bundle, ending up into a financial flop like Street Fighter III back in the late 90s.

  • Katamari Toys

I hope someday they will release Pocket Fighter with netplay also
