Until Dawn’s Halloween Trailer Is Less Cheesy And More Gruesome

By Ishaan . November 1, 2012 . 10:20am

Sony’s upcoming teen horror game, Until Dawn, has a new Halloween trailer. No kids getting ready to make out in a deserted cabin here, though. Just a buzzsaw and and its unfortunate victim. Check it out below:

Until Dawn will be released for the PlayStation 3 sometime in 2013.

That looks distinctively like a SAW-esque thriller, and not like the cheesy dumb teenager-slasher flick we’ve been promised so far. I am neither impressed or amused.

Ehhh I personally think everything has been done just about in the horror genre. We’ve seen the Slasher, splatter, the psychological thrillers, the twists of the main character being the killer. To me all I care about for horror films, or video games is interesting characters, and brutal yet delicious death scenes, and if it manages to make me jump, or builds tension for me then that is a bonus.

I’ll give this a chance being a horror game fan, and a horror movie fan. I’d like to see what they come up with, so far it looks interesting, though a little on the bland side for the graphics, I’d like to see the final product, to give it a fair shot.

Still not sold, but I like the idea of more movie genre inspired horror.

Though Teen Horror/Torture Porn is my least favorite genres. I’d much rather have a Giallo inspired game, something like Heavy Rain but more investigations and chase scenes and less… shaving.

Asking for a giallo-inspired game is probably pretty difficult considering the limitations of an M Rating. I seriously doubt we could get something as intense as Tenebre, The New York Ripper, Spazmo, Deep Red or Don’t Torture A Duckling on something that isn’t the PC (And even then… Steam didn’t approve Downfall because it was way too intense even though it was a 2D point and click game).

True, But I suppose that’s what the modding community is for. Then again, they make all the good horror games nowadays as it is.
