The release is getting closer….Still waiting.

  • AoNoise

It’s a beautiful day when I get to see anything Xillia-localization wise. :D

  • Damn, is it just me or the text feels kinda..small? I had no problems reading the JPN text it had the perfect size, this just feels too small(my eyes aren’t the best).

    • Aoshi00

Yeah, sometimes I wonder why games make their text so unnecessarily small, it’s not like Profossor Layton where they have to cramp all the instruction on a portable screen (and XL helps).  Lost Odyssey was the same, the Jpn text was pretty big and easy to read, but the Eng text was tiny even on a big TV… at least they should have an option to change text size..

      • That option would be pretty awesome, I mean I can understand that text may not be that important when the voices are English anyway, but since English is not my mother language I pretty appreciate subs…when I’m able to read them :/

Lost Odysseys font size is horrendous! I’m honestly glad there is a German voice option in that one. xD

Also I feel like those texts are looking even smaller on big TV’s, it’s probably not the case but it feels like the whole image gets bigger but the text stays the same which makes it all the more difficult to read xD

        • Aoshi00

I always turn on sub as well be it movies or games whenever the option is available, Eng sub to go w/ Eng games, and Jpn sub to go w/ Jpn games :) It’s just clearer you know w/ so much action going on, especially for games w/ so many accents, like Assassin’s Creed, GTA4, etc.. And Netflix started to have sub for streaming too starting a while ago, but not Hulu or Vudu or Amazon Instant till don’t..

Yeah, Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey were some of my early HD games.. I remember Blue Dragon had small text but there were several size you could adjust, and Lost Odyssey’s Eng text, unlike Jpn, was tiny, had to sit close to my 46″ TV…  Dead Rising was the worst, it was almost impossible to read the instruction and dialogue *.*;…  I did listen to LO in German as well, it sounded pretty funny :)  The commands were very hard to decipher lol..

They might think smaller text looks nice, but I think it’s unnecessary, and at least provide an option to change font size, small/mid/big like Blue Dragon.

    • Suicunesol

It probably has something to do with emphasizing the graphics and the picture, and not wanting to cover the pretty graphics with intrusive text, since many people want to “watch” and not “read”. There’s also the neatness of small lettering that can be very attractive visually.

  • XYZ_JolteonZ980

I dont think Im a fan of the font and size choices.

Is there really only the main character and that old man as the male characters. I cant have an all male cast?

    • Jude(Main character), Old badass man(Rowen) and dude with bigass sword(Alvin). So no, you need at least one girl in your team.

      • AuraGuyChris

You can still pit Jude in a team and make his own harem: little girl, childhood friend who freakishly looks like Natalia’s long lost cousin, and the mysterious girl who’s older than him yet she’s the female lead…

Dear god, are we playing Tales of the Abyss here?

    • Nitraion

I think you have to wait to xillia 2 to have all male battle cast…. :D

    • Tien Ron

i hope your trolling there are six characters in the game 3 girls and 3 boys

    • thankfully no. You’ll fortunately have 3 girls.

Now an all female cast should’ve been happening from the start.

    • Curan_Altea

It’s usually a 50/50 split between the genders.

    • Akarnage

In Graces F you could have an all-male party when you get back Richard in the post-game.

The victory skits were hillarious, too.

    • puchinri

      I would not be able to stand an all-one-gender cast, but if it had to be one or the other, all female please~. But how did you miss Alvin? x’D;

  • KingGunblader

This is the 3rd (?) batch of screenshots since the localization announcement. I can’t help but be hopeful that we’ll get a trailer soon. I’m just happy that things seem to be progressing smoothly.

  • Lol Alvin dialogue.

  • Nitraion

    Can’t wait XD
and yeah i kinda agree the text kinda too small… >_.

  • Rob Hestar

Next year is gonna be a great year for JRPG fans!

    • XYZ_JolteonZ980

Tales of Nextia, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Final Fantasy XIII Light Returns, Tales of Xillia 1 and Tales of Xiilia 2, Ni No Kuni, Disgaea d2, Disgaea 5, Persona 5, seems it will be a good year, indeed.

      • DesmaX

That’s a lot of optimism you got there.

        • MrTyrant

           One can dream.

        • AuraGuyChris

          The word is “delusionalism”.

      • KingGunblader

        • XYZ_JolteonZ980

Didnt they say they are working on another Tales of game that is not Xillia 2?

      • Rob Hestar

Yup and people say JRPGS Are dead :)

      • That’s not all, you forgot Bravely Default Flying Fairy, Fire Emblem, Rune Factory 4, Soul Hackers, SMT 4, Etrian Odyssey 4, Atelier Ayesha, Dragon’s Crown, Neptunia V, Witch and Hundred Knights, Toki Towa.

  • Raide

Inb4 obligatory dubbing with no way to switch to original.

  • DanteJones

Its still hard to believe that we’re actually getting this. Glad we are though!

  • As exciting as screenshots are, I am really anxious to see a trailer with some actual voice acting in it. Even though tales games have a pretty decent track record for dubs, I still can’t help but be at least somewhat nervous.

  • IshimaruKaito

  • $24431191

I really need another Tales game to play and quick. However, I’m gonna have to be the fag who complains about dubs. I’m incredibly grateful that we’re even getting the game at all but I really hope they include dual audio. I’m not trying to start an argument or anything; I just prefer original Japanese dubs more. I mean, how does NISA always keep both tracks but Atlus and Namco Bandai don’t? I know it costs more money but would it really hurt their budget that much? Then again, I realize it’s a business and there’s only a small minority that wants dual audio. Still, it’d be nice if they could find a way to include both. The screenshots are looking good by the way.

    • The problem with NISA is they have to cut out some of the english “script” that is voiced in english because of budget constraints that are added through additional costs associated with licensing the expensive, yet full japanese track. Namco Bandai uses all their resources to provide a full english edition, something an average gamer such as myself enjoy (Yup Call of duty and Mass Effect).

To prevent reverse importing somethings have to be cut, to reduce costs you have to cut something, and to get it out as early as possible the same thing happens again. By removing the japanese track they are able to release it much faster as they do not have to worry about reverse importation from the core japanese audience and save money on licensing costs. Persona 4 the Golden probably could be release on day one in just pure english the same date the japanese version is out, but reverse importation is a major issue that still exists even without the japanese dialouge. You can imagine how having dual audio would further provide an incentive to kill the purchase of domestic releases of japanese games, which would hurt THEIR revenue significantly. It is annoying, but please understand this is the only way to get these games without waiting 2-4 years.

      • Jake Joe

I thought Atlus solved this by Region-Locking the Game. Hey if they do that then no worries for Reverse Importing

        • Nemesis_Dawn

We don’t want anyone region-locking games anymore. Persona 4 Arena might end up getting to Europe a year after the other versions for that reason.

      • Speedo Redempteur

There is no problem of reverse importing with NISA or Tales of games for the simple reason that the games are out years after the initial release..

Who would reverse importe xillia ? the game was a best seller in japan ..there is no need to worry about reverse importing in this game so your argument fall flat.

    • Demeanor

I’m with you, ToGf Eng dub was pretty nice and I perfectly understand people who shun the original VA, but personally I think NOTHING beats the jp VA here, especially with all the move names in Tales of games (mmm Expunging Sword vs Zankuujin Mujinshou, c’mon; and it’s 100 times better if you’re actually studying the language). That’s one of the reasons I love NISA games ^ ^
If I were to bet though, I’m not expecting anything different than what they did with Graces. Currently waiting for ToX2!!!!!

    • puchinri

      As a minor note, can we avoid using fag? At least as an insult? ouo;

On the main topic, totes agree. I’m not looking forward to a dub honestly, because I am getting really tired of the same handful of voices, and on top of that, I’m a fan of a number of the seiyuu in the game anyway. I’m kind of wondering how Atlus and Bamco always lack dual audio too (especially afetr the stream of awesome seiyuu that have been painful to miss).

  • About Tales Games… I’ve just read on Tvtropes and such that Tales has a pretty much broken base due to the whole Power of Friendship theme going on in recent Tales games.
I don’t get it. Symphonia and Abyss had power of friendship as well, while having some ‘mature’ themes going on.
Tales of Hearts is I guess Tales Of meets Persona (Be honest, power of friendship — er… I meant social link, is even a gameplay mechanic in Persona).

Everybody seems iffy about Tales of Graces F, but the only Tales game that I’ve played and have a some sort of grudge on is Tales of Innocence.

    • Cephrien_Takusukai

Uhm– I don’t think Abyss was all that much about friendship at all. I remember the characters being real hostile to one another for a good amount of time. I’d say Abyss is moreso about “Responsibility” and “Growing up” than “Friendship”

      • Saraneth

True, but Abyss also had friendship as a side theme. Over the course of the game the characters grew closer to one another and learned more about each other. The party banter was one of my favorite things about the story, and it was done really well. The characters didn’t all like each other from the start, and that made their friendship by the end more meaningful.

        • LynxAmali

That’s not really friendship though. That’s more so character development, if anything.

Luke starts off as an anti-social ass who takes everything he has for granted. Over the course of the game, he actually starts to learn how to treat real people and interact with others.

    • Arrei

Uh, I don’t know what TVTropes is talking about then. Not liking “the Power of Friendship” has only really been a factor in Tales of Graces f, in which it’s a central theme of the game, and some are turned off by them putting that kind of thing front and center.

Other Tales games, as you said, wrapped the friendship aspect in deeper themes, so that the characters grew closer as the adventure went on, without it being the main focus.

  • Looks as great as ever :D I wish the subtitles were bigger but I’ll make do with that.

  • Nemesis_Dawn

Can’t wait to hear the English voice acting for this one.

    • AuraGuyChris

JYB as Jude. Laura Bailey as Millia.

I hope this is not the case.

      • LynxAmali

There is a line which you clearly have passed.
        A CLEAR LINE.
        NO JYB!

        -Laura Bailey as Millia.
I could…actually get behind this. Well, as long as she uses her Kaine voice.

        • AnimusVox

(Hmmm my reply didnt post yesterday)

If Laura Bailey is to do Millia’s voice than I’d hope it’d be the tone of Helena (RE6) or Alv (Kiddy Grade). I like her voice when it’s not high pitched like Rise or Serah’s :

      • Spirit Macardi

Probably won’t be Johnny, since he’s been three Tales heroes so far (Guy, Emil, Cress).

I think it’d be awesome to have him played by someone like Todd Haberkorn or Vic Mignogna. Spike Spencer might be a good choice as well.

  • Göran Isacson

Mooks walk up to old man with unique character model in JRPG and threatens him with force while belittling his age

    My reaction:

  • Looking forward to buying this and if there happens to be an LE version I’ll jump on that. I really hope we get the sequel to this if it does well enough.

  • $3587643

I bought Xillia once, and after they made EVERY COSTUME SET IN THE GAME into paid DLC, I won’t be buying it again. Tales is pretty much dead to me after the way Namco handled their DLC. I hope other Tales fans manage to get some joy from the localization, because I will not.

    • refrain

Good for you then. At least I still enjoyed the game.

    • Arrei

They appear to have learned their lesson, though, for what it’s worth. Tales of Innocence R, which came out after Xillia, had a good amount of costumes in the game, and it appears as if they’re focusing greatly on remedying Xillia’s shortcomings in the sequel, including the lack of costumes – at least, that’s what first impressions suggested. I sure hope that’s the case, anyway.

Besides… not trying to say Namco’s DLC practices are exactly good, but in today’s age we should count ourselves lucky they’ve limited DLC to cosmetic fluff instead of actual game chapters and scenarios… that’s one wave of the future I don’t want to be caught in.

    • Crevox

Costumes are such a small part of the game; I never even use them.

    • Speedo Redempteur

at least bear in mind this … the dlc for xillia is compatible with xillia 2 ( every costume works )

So while i was disapointed ( i still bought them ) now i’m very happy to enjoy these for 2 games with my dlcs

  • Man, I cannot wait. As Zelos and Jade say, “Viva Tales of!”

  • I’m excited, certainly, even with the Japanese copy. I stopped playing it after they released the localization news. Now, though, I’m just… really impatient, because there’s one thing and one thing only I want to know – will we get that Kratos’ Judgement outfit!?! And I despair, because usually costume news doesn’t come out until very near the release date!

    • Akarnage

You mean Alvin’s cameo DLC, right?

We’re definitely getting that one. Wouldn’t bet on the Star Driver or Idolmaster ones though.

  • gah, it’s like waiting for chrimmus and your birthday combined

  • Go2hell66

So close i can taste it

  • I know this is a pointless statement but I really hope there’s some sort of dual audio option… >_>

    • Elvick

I wish Namco would at least give it out as DLC.

I recall some 360 JRPG doing that… not sure which one.

      • Z3

        Dynasty Warriors 7 IIRC

  • Callonia

    Can’t wait, Millia i want.

  • Speedo Redempteur

    Teepo ? really ? i wonder whay the went for a double “e” instead of a i

    • Demeanor

I’d have gone with Teepo any day of the week, it just feels more natural (mind you, I’m Italian so I don’t know how much my opinion is worth XD)!
And Teepo is a glorious name, if you know your Breath of Fire III ^ ^

  • Ravage27

Yay can’t wait to get my hands on this ^^

  • elppakcuf

this is hardly readable, could this be even smaller and more indistinct? have they seen orignal japanese font and size? i was ok reading japanese subs from 1.5 meters away on my 46″ tv, but i can hardly seen anything here on my pc monitor..
