Square Enix is working on a social game based on The World Ends With You. Tatsuya Kando, director of the Nintendo DS game and iOS remix, is also the director of The World Ends With You Live Remix. Theatrhythm Final Fantasy producer Ichiro Hazama is the producer and Hiroyuki Ito is the co-director.
Kando explained to Famitsu the concept for The World Ends With You Live Remix started off as a part of the iOS version, The World Ends With You Solo Remix. He wanted to have a social component to it which expanded from a separate mode to its own game. The original design was a treasure hunt and Onigokko game set in Shibuya. The final design is more like The World Ends With You.
The World Ends With You Live Remix takes place in a parallel world and Kando says the setting is the same so think of it like the "Another Day" from the DS game. Instead of going off in pairs, the Reaper’s Game in The World Ends With You Live Remix puts players in a team of 20 people. Your goal is to find and defeat the "Noise Source" before the week is up. Ito says players should split up and explore Shibuya and Kando explains you can find clues in each area. These clues can be shared on a team bulletin board.
The team also talked about future pans for The World Ends With You Live Remix. Other characters like Joshua and Beat will be playable in the future. When the game launches, you can use Neku and up to four pins. You have decks of pins you can switch between. The World Ends With You Live Remix will also have events with well known Reapers like Uzuki Yashiro and Koki Kariya. When Famitsu asked about Sho Minamimoto Ito laughed and said we should see him someday.
The World Ends With You Live Remix has a new character named Koko Atarashi, a Reaper that also acts as a navigator. Kando said she is not the character seen in the secret ending from The World Ends With You Solo Remix.
The World Ends With You Live Remix is scheduled to come out on Android and iOS this winter.
