PlayStation Plus Service Coming To PlayStation Vita Next Week

By Ishaan . November 13, 2012 . 9:00am

PlayStation Plus, Sony’s paid PSN subscription that yields discounts and other benefits to users, is being extended to the PlayStation Vita.

This morning, Sony announced that a PlayStation Vita 2.00 firmware update on November 19th will bring the “Plus” service to the device, and that it will kick off with an “Instant Game Collection” service that gets you the following games for free:

Uncharted: Golden Abyss

Jet Set Radio HD

WipEout 2048

Gravity Rush

Tales From Space: Mutant Blobs Attack!

Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions (PSP game)

If you own a PlayStation 3 and are already a PlayStation Plus subscriber, your PlayStation Plus service will be extended to your Vita at no extra cost. You will be able to choose between the two subscription options—a three-month plan for $17.99 and a one-year plan for $49.99.

Meanwhile, details for the European PlayStation Plus service, which will hit Vita on November 21st, can be found here.

  • Uncharted? Jet Set Radio?! GRAVITY RUSH?!? Never will I be happier to have a Plus account. (definitely grabbing Gravity Rush oh man)

  • XiaomuArisu

Yay!I will get Uncharted AND Gravity Rush!
    ……damn…..I need a vita…

  • zferolie

Aw, but I already own a bunch of these games :(

Guess I can add Infamous 2, Uncharted, and  maybe dungeon defenders if it’s good

    • Not sure if the saves between physical and digital copies are compatible, if they are (after you try them) then you could sell them :>

      • neo_firenze

Saves between download version and physical version of Vita (or PS3) games are compatible.

  • Cephrien_Takusukai

If I didn’t already have gravity rush, I’d get PS plus just for that.

    Game’s AMAZING.

  • MonsieurEek

Oh man. They are not skimping on the selection.

I’m gonna need a bigger memory card.

  • EmptyWarrior

That’s a pretty good lineup! I can’t wait to see what they add in the coming months. There’s some really good PSP titles that I wouldn’t mind getting for free!

  • So how does this ‘free’ game works? I need to download and install them during the time that the offer is in place? can I ever redownload them later.

I know that you need to have your plus account active but other then that?

    • delon33

As long as you have “purchased” it, you can download it at ANY time through your downloads tab.

EDIT: I’ve also heard that you can also buy and download it on your PS3 and transfer it to your Vita later.

    • Juliano C

You need to “buy” it while the offer is on, you can download and install it later if you want

    • (Even though it’s been answered twice now it appears) While you’re a PS+ subscriber, you “buy” the item at $0.00 in the store. From there, you can download and play it as if you’d paid for it, as long as you’re a PS+ subscriber. It’s added to your account at that point.

From what I understand, even if you lapse in your subscription you can still renew your service down the road and still have access to titles you previously “purchased” through PS+.

      •  Yup, that’s true. Even if you decide to stop being a PSN+ subscriber, if you come back say weeks/months/years later your already claimed PSN+ “free” games are still there.

    • Basically, it’s a renting service. For as long as you pay for PS+, you can rent these games for as long as you want. It’s a crazy catch, but its a good one.

  • awesome good thing i have year on my ps3 now i can get gravity rush woo

  • midgard229

Xbox should really start doing this. Im still not sure why its more expensive than psn+

    • Learii

      because microsoft are greedy

      • Not sure how they are greedy. They need the money to maintain their dedicated server to allow people to play online. They rarely have any maintenance compare to PSN. Not hating on Sony but it seems like you do for Microsoft.

        • Learii

          nah infact i don’t even have a 360 lol

          • =V

          • Learii

i don’t do things  like i have to pay just toplay online or games because i already pay for the internet each months

          • @Learii:disqus I’m not sure what to say. It does go along the line of what people think they are entitled to which is mentioned a lot in DLC related articles.

        • Microsoft are greedy pigs. Doesn’t stop their service from being the best though.

          • Please do enlighten me why they are greedy. If it has anything to do with Windows 8 and their store, don’t mention it.

          • midgard229

simple, they raised the price from 50$ to 60$ and added nothing

          • @midgard229 because I dont want to continue this. All im going to say to you is “lawlwhut?”

          • So you ask for my opinion, but then you tell me not to mention my opinion? Hmm.

Anyway, Microsoft is greedy. You pay $60 a year for a dashboard with a whole bunch of useless ads(which should be avoided.) the only good service it has is party chat AND you have to pay for their service in order to use your own services that you ALREADY pay for.(Hulu plus, Netflix, etc.) Bunch of greedy people.

        • delon33

Uh…only a handful of MS games have dedicated servers like Halo and Forza. Even PSN had dedicated servers for games like Warhawk and MAG. Most games on the 360 use P2P just like PSN. Even COD on the 360 uses P2P. The notion that the online of the 360 is far better than that of the PSN is an exaggeration. In some cases it is but generally speaking, it isn’t.

          • Oh alright, well it still doesn’t really matter. I just think that I’m paying to get a stable service.

[edit: well I paid £25 for my 12 month so it’s pretty much feels like I’m paying £2 a month]

    • iirc I bought my 12 months xbox live for £25. That’s pretty standard price nowadays while PSN+ is still the £39.99 (online and offline *retail store*). Not sure how you thought xbox live is expensive unless you thought it was just expensive just to for weekly sale, online play, party chat, and other things.

      • midgard229

because in stores Live is 60$ and PSN+ is 50$

Just cause you found a sale on ebay or something doesnt mean that it is the normal price lol

        • You laugh at the wrong reason. I could say that because well it is a normal price in the UNITED KINGDOM.

Anyway I asked a couple of friends who lives in the United State and they say otherwise to what you just said there. Price are either the same or Xbox Live is cheaper online and in store. They did say to me why would you want to buy game subscription from gamestop when you can get it cheaper elsewhere? whatever I’m ending this because obviously this isn’t going nowhere and arguing doesn’t benefit me in any way.

    • If I want to read crap like this I will go to neogaf.

      • Syltique

Don’t be sour, it’s just the truth.  If Xbox users get more, you would be happy.

        • I use both, I’m am more in favor of PS+ of course, it’s a much sweeter deal. You would have to be in denial to say otherwise.
What I meant by my comment is that this is not really the place I come to for console flaming like some other popular sites. Or maybe you’re just a troll, so why am I even replying to you?

          • Syltique

Not sure how I’m the troll here.  I just was telling you to calm down since you’re calling someone else’s post crap.  All he said is that it would be a good idea for Xbox to start doing it, and you just agreed that it was a better deal.

          • “Don’t be sour, it’s just the truth.  If Xbox users get more, you would be happy.” =/= “calm down”. This is not the place to incite your console war. You were obviously prodding for a reaction, so you got it. Now move on.

  • Man, Uncharted and Tactics are mine! I’m impressed! I didn’t expect Sony to throw in a few of their major games immediately.

  • I am also very excited for the Email option, this is just getting better and better!

  • neo_firenze

Awesome lineup.  Too bad I already have all of these games (Jet Set Radio HD on PS3, so I guess I’ll just consider this like a “cross-buy”).  One to look out for besides the obvious choices – Mutant Blobs Attack.  It’s really quite good, surprised the hell out of me when I got my Vita.  Tiny download too, so no worries about space.

I’m personally hoping we see Ninja Gaiden on Vita+ in one of the upcoming monthly updates.  I’m not buying that game AGAIN in another format, but I wouldn’t mind having it in portable form and trying out the new challenge missions.

Vita update adding other system features (email, web browser updates, etc) and STILL not adding folders is driving me nuts though. I’ve maxed out my 100 bubbles (thanks to 32GB memory card and a bunch of PSP/PS1 games) and have to delete things in order to add new apps/games.

  • If i had PS3 this would have been really good deal but since i got Vita only i don’t think the PS+ subscription really worth for me.

    • I can see that view easily. Without the meat of the PS3 (not that the Vita can’t be meaty itself), there’s little to no reason to go for PS+ as it really benefits those with a PS3 more (especially since this is just the infant stage for the Vita PS+).

    •  It will only become more worth it as the year(s) go by.

  • Captain_Jiruo

Way better then I thought it’d be.Other then Uncharted it’s all games I’ve wanted to buy.
I wonder if Sony knows that all these games they are letting me play for practically free makes it easier to save money so I can pay Nintendo for a Wii U :P

  • Uhm, well , at least this means that Jet Set Radio for VITA may be released for everyone next week and not just Plus subscribers :)

  • Dang, they aren’t skimping with plus, are they.

  • eilegz

so much value, ps plus its a great way to get into playstation enviroment, meanwhile i still wonder why people pay for live to eat a bunch of bloat and ads, so much for the “superior” service….

    • It’s not like you really have a choice as an XBox gamer, do you? I only game on PlayStation so please correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t XBL-Silver members treated like 2nd class citizens, with demos hitting one week later and not being able to play online at all?

Once I went PS+ I’d never considered allowing my sub to expire. Now I do  not even have to double dip for the NA localized versions of my Japanese Vita games as I get them for free courtesy of Sony. Right now I am a very content and loyal PS-gamer.

      • Elvick

Discounts are always for Gold members as well. Which was fine back when I was a member, but now is even more stupid than I thought it was then.

However, Sony should allow some MB cloud storage for everybody and autoupdates. It really is super useful, and you don’t know how much so until you have access to it.

I’m a PS+ member, since day 1 btw. And I’d be fine with losing those “privileges”. Since I think they’d be better as things for everyone.

        • Thank you. So basically it kinda sucks being a Silver Member. I intend to purchase MS’s next system alongside PS4 and WiiU but I’ll remain a PS+ member only. No paid services on Xbox or Wii so I don’t mind being treated disadvantageously. For me PS+ is a no-brainer as it’s amazing value for money. Certainly the points you mentioned would have been nice to be freely available to all members but they are USPs of the premium service, after all.

  • Gravity Rush and War of the Lions being included in the free game list is awesome. Both are wonderful games (War of the Lions being my first major gaming addiction… couldn’t stop playing that game for hour after hour after hour) and it’s great that others will be able to try these games out this way.

  • Helpful tip: If you have a PS3 and PSN+, but no Vita, you can still call dibs on the Vita Instant Game Collection games. They’ll be saved to your downloads list. That way, if you ever do get a Vita, you’ll have a stockpile of games ready to play.

    •  ^ This x100000!

    • SuperSailorV

Great call! When I had PS+, I made sure to get EVERYTHING free, like DLC, in case I ever picked those games up in the future!

    • Jonathan Caminhas

Does this work for the opposite, like if I have a Vita and no PS3, can I buy a PS3 game and and let in the download list for when I buy one?

      •  Unfortunately, no.

  • Akarnage

So I just got Portal 2 for 13.99 and next week I’m getting Gravity Rush and Jet Set Radio?

I dunno if you know, Sony, but you’re pretty effin’ rad.

    •  Yet people on the PS blog will still find ways to complain…. loudly…

      •  They just need to shut down the comment section for the PS blog, it does more hurt than good. Plus it shouldn’t be surprising that most of those people just use it just to freely flame directly on a Sony website. I have actually tried to add a few as friends, just to find out that they actually have an account with like 1 trophy and never respond. It’s suspicious.

        •  agreed

        • PoweredByHentai

          We call those “trolls”.

        • Elvick

Pfft, no. I love commenting on the PS Blog. I’ve been called a Sony fanboy who only defends them, and I’ve been called a troll. Because I just say what’s on my mind about whatever is the topic at hand.

And a lot of times, people complain about stupid things (whining about no midnight launch, when all they ever said was day 1 as if day 1 has some other meaning than on the first day of release). And Sony can do stupid things (PS Store update… lawdy).

Besides, if you don’t like the comments, you don’t have to read them.

  • KingGunblader

WELP I’m sold. As soon as I recover from Wii U launch I’m getting a Vita. YEAH VIDEO GAMES! :D

  • kupomogli

Three of the best Playstation Vita games, free for Playstation Plus.

    • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

Not to mention one of the best PSP titles (FFT: WoT) and a brand new PSV release (Jet Set Radio HD)~.

      • Mantiskilla

Not an Uncharted fan and I felt Gravity Rush was kinda overrated (maybe due to not much else being out).  Still to get them for free is pretty sweet.  Too bad Jet Set Radio on PS3 had well just awful, and lagged out controls.  Game just didn’t age very well at all.  Still fun though if you can get past that, but I’ll just stick with the DC version instead which just seems to perform better all around as crazy as that sounds

  • PoSiTiV3tEnSiOn

Persona 4 The Golden comes out the next day too.
I – I have finals in two weeks.
You… can’t do this to me Sony.

    I can’t… I mustn’t…

guess I’m failing my all classes this semester.

    • SuperSailorV

I’m relinquishing myself from the shackles of college to play Vita games professionally.

      • PoweredByHentai

I like this.  If you aren’t in a Science or Engineering major, college really is overrated.

    • Mantiskilla

Haha yeah I bet college is rough during this time of year.  I know it was for me like 10+ yrs ago (damn you PSO and anything else Dreamcast or PS2 related)  Now its just about finding time to play within the framework of business travel

    • $36487238

I know the feel bro, I know the feel. Well, difference is I have a part-time job while still studying in college. I can afford…. But man… now I have to choose: Be a PS+ member or get Persona 4: The Golden? Man…. get 4 games you never played before or get one game you played before on the PS2?

I’ll make my decision on my next payday. XD

  • LustEnvy

Dat feel when you have PSPlus, and already bought almost all of these already. SMFH…

    • PoweredByHentai

Just think of it as having a digital backup option if you lost your Vita cartridges for those games.

      • LustEnvy

         They were already digital…

  • Draparde

    ….i need to get PSplus….

  • xavier axol

well i got the $20 promo, after speding $100 on the psn. it was a good deal and i bought more stuff on it than expected (i got konami HD, ragnarok odyssey, retrocityrampage, metalgearsolid3 HD, parasite eve II and suikoden ), but i’m still not a psplus member though i have to reconsider. i’m a huge uncharted fan i have all the games except for golden abyss that’s on the vita (i thought that it was too expensive for a vita game back when it first launched), but now along with gravity rush, wipeout, jet set radio hd, and final fantasy tactics wol (i think it’s a great deal!!) i’m enjoying my assassin’s creed 3 liberation bundle and i’m looking forward to persona 4 golden along with playstationallstar and now the psplus!

  • 21603

EU lineup is a little thin. Only getting four games and only two of those are Uncharted and Gravity Rush.

  • Göran Isacson

While I already own Gravity Rush, I am pretty darn stoked that more people will get the opportunity to play the game via this service. deserves it’s accolades and more, I say.

    • Elvick

I hope it results in a sequel.

      • Göran Isacson

We can but hope. Although I do wonder if they would change the gameplay or try to further experiment with it, or just keep it the same and polish it somewhat. I’m just curious how long you can keep a gameplay concept without really changing it up and not have the gaming public jump down your throat for not innovating, when the first game in itself WAS an innovation.

Then again again, considering how long this game took to get out and how it didn’t seem to set the sales charts on fire, perhaps hoping for a sequel is to hope for too much.

  • SuperSailorV

Gravity Rush has to be THE game defining the Vita right now! At first glance I thought this might’ve been a financially irresponsible move; then I realized Sony must’ve done some numbers including it as a PS+ freebie. Maybe stirring up Vita sales for existing + members, and encouraging Vita owners to pick up +?

  • Solomon_Kano

Ohoho! Looks like it’s finally time for me to subscribe to PS+.

  • Doctor Nebula

    Jet Set Radio?
So that means it’s coming out on the 19th?

  • Hinataharem

Sony hasn’t been doing to bad lately

  • Masengan

I think it’s about time I reactivate my PS+ membership.

  • Shaun Huseman

Looks like Ill be getting Plus

  • Mar Mar

Glad I didn’t buy Gravity Rush hahahaha

  • Syn

Plus here I come baby, lol, hahahahha, so happy my Vita is arriving in just a few days.I gets me 3 big games for free???? Sony…… we have to stop this love hate thing we have going, one moment Sony= Awesome, next Sony=wtf, then back to awesome??? you make it hard to stand my ground with you Sony, cant hate you(free games and Vita), cant love you all the way(vita card cost, and other stuff I cant remember right now), but either way, Ps+ here I come. So psyched!!!!

  • $36487238

    What the…?!

Dang it. Why is Sony so good?! Erggg… I was about to buy Jet Set Radio on its own but when I saw that it’ll be part of this Instant Game Collection… it makes me wanna go get subscribed already!.

I already own 2 of the games (Uncharted and Gravity Rush) but the rest… wow. Just wow. I’m willing to go crazy and subscribe. I’m so going to subscribe as a PS+! Count me in!

  • And that, ladies and gents, is the reason I love Sony and PlayStation.

  • Awww Yeaaahh~~
I shall never get tired of FFT <3

  • Elvick

I have all those games, except the only on not on Vita yet and I was planning on buying that version anyway. I don’t mind that it gives out games I have. Now I can rate some of them on the store. I hate that about the PS Store, it makes sense for PSN-only stuff, but retail also… nope.

    Oh well.

Anyhoo, I’m more looking forward to being able to backup my saves. It will be easier to do than backing it up with my computer. Curious about what the trophy sync will do. Since it’s already super easy to sync trophies, and faster than on PS3… though that may be because I have fewer games currently. I assume it’ll be like PS3 though.
