Call Of Duty 2013 Details Leaked, Continues Modern Warfare Arc

By Spencer . November 14, 2012 . 1:00pm

image Activision has been recording voiceovers for the next Call of Duty game in Los Angeles, a source tells Siliconera. "Call of Duty 2013" takes place in the Modern Warfare arc and the main character in the game is "a battle hardened veteran in his mid-thirties with a nihilistic point of view."

Here are some of the lines "Ben Burke" (which we’re told is a codename) has to recite in Call of Duty 2013.

"Reminds you of Phuket, doesn’t it? Only this time the dust gives you cancer… OK, park yourself and get ready. When this thing kicks off, put a hole in anything that moves."

"This is Sentinel Zero One, successful crypto change on C2 net break, requesting immediate update of blue force picture and status of artillery, over. I have you broken and unreadable, I say again, requesting updates to friendly positions and status of arty support. Do you read, over?"

"We’ve got KVA on the move! They’re going to strongpoint the main gate, ETA two mikes! We’re providing support for our heavy rollers! Ready up and let’s move!"

"Goliath, this is Sentinel Zero One! We have enemy armor at the gate, hundred meters north of our position! Requesting close-air grid mark three-one-six!"

Another scene that was recorded took place in Somalia with John "Soap" MacTavish, which as we understand is a flashback.

The details come from the same source that leaked portions of the Sleeping Dogs, or as it was known back then True Crime: Hong Kong, script before Square Enix acquired the title.

Here’s the Sleeping Dogs intro and details about the assassination attempt, which we released in 2011.

  • Ava1on

Awesome… can’t remember the last time a Call of Duty game was announced!

    • YouGusta

       Me too!
      Been waiting forever!

  • MrJechgo

Oh boy… I swear, someone’s got put a stop to this. That series is ruining the market.

    • Luna Kazemaru

game sells alot and i don’t like it clearly must be ruining everything.

      • Luis Enrique

But it has, it basically turned all big publishers into
“Hollywood-esque” companies. It made the norm for games to have insanely
big budgets that get badly distributed, mostly going to marketing,
mo-cap and voice acting and barely anything into the actual game

It made the game market into a casual fest where it
doesn’t matter if the game is deep or innovating, but as long as it is
“fun” and the “new thing”, you should pay $60 for it.

        Also made
the market into a multi-million one, so if a game doesn’t sell millions
it’s considered a failure by investors, in the past, games that sold 1
million copies were considered incredible achievements.

        And when
it comes to game design, it’s basically sending the message that modern
“players” don’t want big maps and that they can’t really handle not being told what to do, it’s all about killing everything that moves in tight corridors. It streamlined gameplay.

Really, ever since CoD4 it has done nothing but ruin the industry, you must be new to playing games or blind not to see this.

        • Luna Kazemaru

Then I guess I must be blind and wearing a tin foil hat since I don’t blame whats up on one game funny how its a issue now since its big now yet no one said anything when it was on PC or first hit consoles lol. Though hey we all need to blame everything on something lets blame it on something that sells alot and has a big fanbase. Yep has nothing to do with the growing gaming community as a whole. Yep not at at all also this whole ‘its casual’ thing now is a joke and needs to be drop if people want to complain about that go look at Nintendo and how casual and family friendly they like to go (not trying to knock niny).

Tho hey we can keep this little cry me a river of bs hate all we want the games will sell because its easy to pick up easy to enjoy (I know god forbid right?). Its so amusing to watch the same crap be throw around without any proof then have the nerves the apply ‘oh this is just like CoD’ because it has action or things blowing up or again god forbid try and make a game alittle more easy for younger or people new to gaming to pick up but hey sh*t logic works.

          • Luis Enrique

I like how you ignored everything I said and then proceeded to defend games becoming easier and more streamlined.

          • Luna Kazemaru

I didn’t I’m calling you out on trying to blame one game over how gaming is now but hey :D I really don’t expect anyone to honestly agree with me on this site anyway.

Edit: also I liked how you tried to use the ‘oh you must be new to gaming’ on me. Sorry no been playing games since I was 9.

          • I think it’s the same sh*t logic like making a game easy for younger people when the game itself is intended to be played by mature audiences. hence the mature rating

        • Herok♞

CoD didn’t turn the game industry into this, that is a very stupid idea. What caused this is I don’t know maybe something simple like production costs getting higher. When something is cheaper to make then it can get less sales without any problem, now that people keep pushing bigger and better games of course its going to cost more to make and need more sales its not exactly cheap to make cutting edge games.

  • DesmaX

Not buying another IW CoD. Didn’t liked MW3

    • amagidyne

IW actually made the best ones (1, 2 and 4, imho), though I guess it isn’t the same company since the firings.

      • DesmaX

Yeah, the first MW is the best FPS this gen

But I just disliked the third one (Didn’t even btothered to get prestigr 1). And Black Ops os my second favorite (But I’m not picking BO 2 on release)

        • DesmaX

Sorry for bad.spelling. I’m typing on my phone

  • FlameEmperor

Wth…….. They sure took their time to reveal this >_>……..
Just turn CoD into a MMO already since it’s only being played for its multiplayer mode.

    • Budgiecat

      I would so love that.

Just to hear the sounds of millions crying. But then accepting it anyway :P

    • D H

Stranding myself out on a limb here, but I’ve enjoyed everything from MW1-MW3 so far, except World at War (haven’t played any yet) and had a blast.

Also, except for a little bit of online Spec Ops, I’ve done nothing but play the campaign.  And enjoyed every moment of it practically, the first time, and the second time, and the next time.

  • Leon_Tekashi

    This series is REALLY overrated.

  • Tales_of_Master

    Hah new COD game….who would’ve guessed :D

    • Budgiecat

Totally threw me off I had no idea

    • Ryos

Oh man, and I was just wondering if there’d EVER be an announcement for another title in the series!  It’s been what, a whole day since the last one?  I figured they were done for good!

      • Luna Kazemaru

The IP is under two groups so it gets abused in a way.

  • TheDarkEmpress

    Please stop.

  • Budgiecat

They should do a Final Fantasy crossover

  • joshua_boyd

    *shakes my head*

    really…oh who im kidding.

    Bision: OF COURSE!!!

  • SirRichard

Call of Duty 2013: Russia invades the entire solar system simultaneously

It’s not a surprise at all, and I’m actually honestly looking forward to seeing what the evil Russians, with their endless fuel supplies, weapons and puppy-kicking young men are going to invade next. Last time it was every country in Europe at the same time, they need to up the stakes!

    • What’s next? Russia declares war on the space federation?

      • SirRichard

        Shhh, that’s Black Ops III!

      • LynxAmali

        Can’t be Space Germans.
They’ve already taken over the Space Colonies.

Space Russians is the way to go.

      • Luis Camargo

I called that Vanquish and I’m still waiting for a sequel on that one.

    • Göran Isacson

Oh you silly, silly little person you.

What makes you think that they haven’t already? That’s right… Russia has invaded the solar system and turned EVERY ALIEN into communists! This time America is under siege by every planet ever! Do not lie, you can see them going down this route.

  • Ben Sylvia

To the shock and surprise of absolutely no one.

  • …and Mary had a little lamb.

Well, the gaming industry is a huge business, and Activision’s just doing their part.

  • Luna Kazemaru

Rater they just leave CoD to 3arc then IW.

    and oh look these comments.

  • Neah

I like Call Of Duty series, the only shooter game I play. What can I say, its fun so I buy em. This news makes me sad coz I’ve really gotten tired of the MW subseries and was happy it ended.

Can’t they think of another subseries to start. Well I still got BO2 to buy.

    • Luna Kazemaru

If you enjoy CoD play 3arc’s version they seem to be alot better then IW’s ones as of late.

  • No.

  • ShinStar

    The Madden of FPS…

  • ShinStar

I also like how it’s always $59.99 MSRP every year too.

  • tubers

Well, can’t say I didn’t love their campaign.. :) Never a fan of competitive MP though.. I just suck at anything w/ competition. :D

  • Scallion

Granted, these games are still pretty fun, but that’s only because they haven’t changed much of anything since CoD4-whoops, Modern Warfare 1.
It’s a money maker. They’re selling like hotcakes, and the crappy marketing model they’re using is selling, too… Can’t do anything about that, really.
I’m more worried about how the games are trivializing war and bloodshed. Moms buy these games for their kids (some as young as eight) every Christmas, and they’re okay with all of the content–unless there’s cursing, apparently.

…So we have a president that’s using Predator drones to blow people up in a country we’re technically allies with half a world away, and everyone shrugs their shoulders… What happens when these little kids grow up?

  • Infinty ward need to stop making call of duty cuz MW3 sucked and just let treyarch take over the franchise. and activison need to stop releasing the game every year let the consumer thirst for it but u know the call of duty fanboys gonna stand in line for hours just to get a map expansion. so i guess activison doing something right

    • Randy Marsh

Infinity Ward is not doing MW4, I believe it’s Sledgehammer.

      • Ayrton Gomes Ferreira

  • Hinataharem

    Wait, already?

  • Robert Leonardi

    “F* Assassins Creed 3, F* Dishonored, F* Hitman Absolution. I only
like games when they re-package the same content and there’s absolutely
nothing innovative about the game at all. That’s why I love Call of Duty
    Black Ops 2.”

an excerpt of a comment on youtube for BLOPS2 (not done by me) which made me laugh, and sadly this applies to the series nowadays

    edited out profanities

    • Luna Kazemaru

Yeah because Assassins creed and dishonored are SO innovative lol.

      • Robert Leonardi

don’t look at me, i’m not the one who wrote the comment to begin with lol

but dishonored is rather innovative, adding magic and multiple endings into Thief’s stealth equation, making a great game even better, and the conclusion of the game (dishonored) made me satisfied

as for AC in general, it had many changes not only to graphics but to how gameplay works (with the exception of portable spin-offs) and new things to play with (though i would prefer it if ubisoft

while COD in general hasn’t changed much in 5 years and its has been using COD 4 as the base over and over again, and its single player campaign became a joke, finishable in 2 hours at veteran mode, hell might as well make an mmo since COD is no longer about campaign

        *rant end*

        • Luna Kazemaru

so both games are innovative for doing what has been done before ok. AC as barley changed its self adding a ‘few new things’ is not innovative same can be said for dishonored its basically a sand box assassination game with added magic that’s it nothing new. There is nothing innovative about the to CoD doesn’t change sure but atleast I don’t lie to myself saying other games are innovative due to ‘a few changes’.

That’s like saying SWTOR was innovative even tho its a complete copy and paste of WoW. Also that who might as well make it a MMO thing is a really piss poor statement.

          • Robert Leonardi

wait, AC is a barley ? kinda explains why it has Mind f* endings…
but jokes aside, numerically speaking AC 1 to 3 has made many changes, that counts, while COD has never changed from COD 4 to BLOPS2 (aside from the zombie mode), and i’m just comparing the two in general (not including dishonored, since its kinda obvious that you don’t know Thief) since that was what you were attacking to begin with

well WoW isn’t exactly innovative either, since its also copied from Everquest (and yes even the devs admit that back at blizzcon), but SWTOR is poor decision making at best (making space battles a rail shooter kinda killed it) and imho they focused too much on the “wow-killing” concept than the important ones, and in the end its piled in and stowed away with MMOs that killed their potentials of actually being a good MMO by bootlegging WoW

and to add, current gen mmos aren’t innovative either, especially KRMMOs where they copy WoW’s (everquest’s) system with added amount of grindfest, Tera online didn’t escape this archetype either, different gameplay but still the same formula (with subscription and a cash shop to boot).

      • brian yep

AC and Dishonored were never really much about innovation to begin with.
Maybe being unique, but I know (at least) one main reason AC is still around.
People wanna keep going with plot, but no one really seems to care about plot in a COD game, they want rehashed multiplayer.

  • ZEROthefirst

Alright guys are you ready for Call of Duty Modern $60 re-skin 4!?

  • Talbot

    Not interested.

I want space warfare with colourful lasers, space dogfights, huge robots to fight, stellar and surreal environments, enemies who aren’t ultranationalist Russians, planets being bombarded, dudes in swish battle armours and uhh…hold on, I’ve more or less just described a Star Wars game.

Actually, I still need to get round to getting Black Ops 2 sometime in the future. I’m pretty much done with the Modern Warfare series at this point.

    • Gurbinder Nagra

       Sounds like Starhawk

  • Kai2591

I don’t think I’ll be playing CODs anymore..
I know they’re still fun to play, but I’ve just lost any real interest.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

get ready for Call of Duty 6, I love my Mama!

  • SupaPhly

Siliconera – Welcome to the Unseen Side of Video Games!

    • I think you’re being sarcastic, but a script leak falls into the “unseen side of video games.”

  • Alfy Masamune

people complaining about these games being the same, re-skins with a few extra’s etc…its not the ony game that does this, a few examples.

The list goes on and on, so do shut up.

    • HenryDF

Errr, but some of those “same, re-skins with a few extra’s etc” are actually crap. Fifa 12; “Wow! New feature!” Mario; “Wow! New power-up!”. If it takes developers a year+ to do stuff like that, then of course it’s gonna be awful and/or a rip off.

      • Hidayat246

        what do you expect?????

creativity is something cant just show up despite in a years

    • Charlie Wahl

Unless I’m mistaken, Disgaea only has four releases, and they’re pretty spread out across multiple consoles.  I’d take it off that list, maybe replace it with something like Command & Conquer.

    • Thomas Sp

Everything about this comment is wrong.

    • Elvick

Can’t believe people liked this. Most of those aren’t good examples.

I’m tired of people acting like CoD is comparable to sports games. It’s not. No matter how much they hate the yearly releases. That doesn’t make your horrible examples better though.

      • Luna Kazemaru

Sonic, mario and pokemon aren’t sports games still don’t see how throws aren’t horrible examples when all you guys do is knock CoD on not changing when most of the ones listed (Disgaea is ehhh) don’t at all but hey good logic.

        • Elvick

          “All you guys”

“I’m tired of people acting like CoD is comparable to sports games. It’s not. No matter how much they hate the yearly releases.”

Yes, “you guys” which is including me. I totally only bash CoD, since my comment totally bashed it.

Actually read a comment next time before flying into your rage.

      • Here’s a few more:
        Elder Scrolls: Loot, Kill, Quest
        Fallout: Loot, KIll, Quest
        Assassins Creed: Kill, Quests
        Left for Dead: Kill Zombies
        Resident Evil: Kill Zombies
Silent Hill: Predetermined quest line, that has jump scares
        Borderlands: Loot, Kill, Quest
        Super Smash Brothers: Brawler
        Battlefield: Kill, team work
        Tony Hawk games: Comboboners
All Sports games: Doesn’t really apply, but yah. If a game develops a fanbase they’re not gonna change the game too much, because THEY HAVE A FANBASE FOR THE TYPE OF GAME THAT IT IS. Shall I continue? A series of games stays the same. That’s the point of a series, some people enjoy the fast paced, FPS, action gameplay. Others enjoy platformers, or RPG’s. The reason there is so many games for Call of Duty is because of 2 major companies working on it. If Neversoft gets involved, that’s 3. I personally enjoy wasting my time shooting people for no reason. I also enjoy playing great story lines, and quest-lines. I enjoy “catching’em all” and making the touchdown pass. I enjoy getting those rings at full speed, and finding those mushrooms. I enjoy stealing cars and also racing them. The only thing that you can say ruined gaming was the obsession with DLC.

    • I’d take disgaea off the list since they do add new things each game and there are only 4 iterations.

the others are spot on though.

  • AnimusVox

Lol I’m a little surprised this is on top for the ‘Popular’ category.

    • British_Otaku

Out of how much people dislike Call of Duty for it’s popularity, Activision’s business practices, lack of advancement and such based on the comments.

Persona 4 Arena’s build up of localisation blunders built up popularity out of debate in the comments, with most parties seeming interested in the game but a good portion having something to say against the region lock and delays.

      • Actually, the “Popular” bar has nothing to do with comments. Call of Duty is popular, so our report is proving to be popular as well. A lot of people don’t understand how widespread Siliconera’s audience really is. Commenters are not the same as readers; they’re just the most vocal fraction of our entire readership.

        • Helepythia

Well, COD is popular, but I’m thinking that’s it. The people are here for COD, nothing more. I’m sure that people are spreading this stuff like smallpox on Indians. When I did a search for “Call of Duty 2013” there’s a whole lot of other websites copying this article and redirecting to this one. In any case, you might get more readers now.

          • What I mean is, on a day-to-day basis, the kind of people that read Siliconera aren’t just the “hardcore gaming otaku,” so to speak. Even people that aren’t as dedicated to games as the rest of us, but still dabble in games from time to time, read this site. In fact, that’s where a large portion of our traffic (and traffic on other sites as well, in general) comes from.

  • CountMarth92

No thanks, i’ll stick to halo….

  • Helepythia

I’m 99% sure you don’t need to talk about FPSs. I’m pretty damn sure we’re all here for eastern gaming news.

    • Interesting point, but if COD was in the popular post section for three days in a row I think there are some people who would beg to differ.

      • Robert Leonardi

i’m pretty sure that most of those who came here are here to post about “unseen side of vid gaming”, “no surprises here” and such

        • This is a silly assumption. There are maybe what… a dozen of those people? Siliconera’s readership is in the millions.

          • Robert Leonardi

well that may be true, i may have gone too far with my assumptions, and i do apologize for that, but i’m not so sure that COD itself should be part of siliconera, just saying, my reasoning for that is that COD is a widely acclaimed FPS game and there’s no doubt that it will be posted here and there whenever a leak is well leaked ? (can’t really find a better word for that XD) and isn’t the concept of siliconera is to show the underrated or buried vid games that not many people may know about ?

though then again, not mentioning a highly anticipated + famous game over here wouldn’t be a good idea either considering that some audience may not like it when the news of a game they like didn’t appear over here

        • A leak from a studio that only we were able to procure certainly falls into the “unseen side of gaming” category.

    • SolidusSnake

Still more interesting than hearing about the latest mistakes from Square Enix.

  • Riseabovethesky

Hope all you want, it will never get out of Japan.

    • Robert Leonardi

erm i think you’re in the wrong topic there bud
