Senran Kagura: New Wave Adds Idol, Dancer, And Band Ninjas

By Spencer . November 23, 2012 . 5:09am

Every Senran Kagura adds students from a new ninja academy. Senran Kagura: New Wave has at least three more kunoichi clans like the idol group Milky Pop.

Mai, Yugiri, Tamaki, Kagari, and Josui are the members of Milky Pop. Instead of a sword, Mai fights with a… microphone stand and Kagari uses knives that look like tambourines.

The Saki art school has band ninjas. Kosuzu, Aria, Kanon, Fuga, and Chiyo are part of this clan. All of them have musical instruments like Fuga’s magical fire shooting shamisen and Aria’s oversized cymbals that crush enemies to death.

The women from Maiougi Academy are dancers and all of them have international ties. Tsubame’s father is Russian, Mei Mei is an exchange student from China, Matsuri doesn’t speak Japanese she traveled to Japan to follow in her grandmother’s footsteps, Yoshimitsu is half-American, and Ageha’s mom is from Spain.

Senran Kagura: New Wave is a social game for iPhone and Android from GREE.

Senran Kagura is a franchise. I need more!!

    • porkiewpyne

       Need localisation. TT^TT

  • Raze

    DAT Idol Ninjas…
    I APPROVE!!!

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

Damn, all those new characters. I feel like replaying Burst now.

  • psycho_bandaid

“The saki art school has band ninjas.”

I was momentarily blinded by this statement.  I couldn’t continue reading for a couple of minutes, I just kept re-reading the sentence.  I still don’t know what to make of this.

    • almostautumn

Naruto had Chef Ninja’s so I guess it’s not too far-fetched amongst the anime-histories of ninja.

      • Göran Isacson

We don’t speak of the dark days of the Filler Age.

We don’t speak of them and hope that will help us forget.

        • sd28

          speak of what

        • OatMatadoQuatro

Even Japan does not speak of that. When they rereleased the show in DVD boxes they only got to episode 135, the last canonical episode. I started to love Japan a bit more that day.

    • D H

What to make of it?  Ninjas who like music.  And play in a band.  That simple.  No different really from any modern-day-profession-worker who has an interest in something else.  Like a computer tech that can bench-press 600 lbs or something.

    • Tom_Phoenix

I bet they’re all apprentices of the Jammin’ Ninja.

  • malek86

Are these even ninjas anymore? ;P

    • http://wiredjungle.wordpress.com/ DrakosAmatras

I would imagine they quietly discarded that pretense a while back. Not like anybody was buying it anyway.

    • sd28

i take it that they are that worlds modern day equivalents of ninja so yes there ninja just not traditional stereo typical ninja

Man the creator for the series must have a LOT of imagination. All these new characters man they look SO GOOD. :DDDDDD

If you look closely you could see flowers

    • z_merquise

      . . .  yes, flowers . . . . . . . . . . . I’m sorry, you say something?

    • KingRuff

I spent twenty minutes staring at those pictures and all I found was some very large melons.

  • OlimacFTW

Please mom! Bring me that clown for my birthday! Please!

  • z_merquise

A group of well endowed female pop idol ninjas named Milky Pop.

    Yep, makes sense.

  • OatMatadoQuatro

    “students from a ninja academy”
    Where can I enlist?

    • Raze

      Really??
Then….First you must have big bewbs…

      • OatMatadoQuatro

        C”@p! Plan B

    • Robert Leonardi

just go out in the open and shout “I’m a ninja! Kagebushin no jutsu! Kage no Ikazuchi! Hono no Kage!” and few men in white garments will come and bring you to a padded room and give you the ninja suit and you wait in there

      • OatMatadoQuatro

W U NO TALK ABOUT BOOBS?!

Also, does anybody know if the Vita game will still have Novel Mode? that was such work to read through in the 3DS games. I’m assuming they might not this time.

  • http://wiredjungle.wordpress.com/ DrakosAmatras

WOW~~~ The definition of “foreign” in Japanese fiction never ceases to amaze me: Stereotyped costumes and King-size busts.

    • Chaos89

But its Senran Kagura, everyone has king size busts!

      • PoweredByHentai

You mean QUEEN sized busts.  XD

    • alixraen

I was taken aback a bit when I saw Yoshimitsu -

“They…can’t get away with that, can they?”

Simply another reason why the west will never see this series.

      • http://wiredjungle.wordpress.com/ DrakosAmatras

If you’re referring to the one in the Native American “outfit”, I think that’s Matsuri. Yoshimitsu is half-American, so they made sure to give her long blond hair and a cheerleader getup – on top of an even bigger bust.

…Now that I say it out loud, this is really stupid, even for Senran Kagura.

        • alixraen

Yeah, I meant Matsuri >.< Yoshimitsu is pretty typical of a Japanese depiction of an American. *shrug*

  • http://epiclyamazing.wordpress.com/ AzureNova

That’s it! Senran Kagura is one of the best series hands down. Localization is a bust……. I mean must =^_^=

    • Yuriangels

yes, yes, yessssssss!!! More Senran Kagura please!!!

  • Chaos89

Mei Mei looks like she has really soft big buns.

  • passthegrenadeplease

  • Göran Isacson

… So I kinda like the band ninjas, in that their designs look pretty neat in a “it’s not JUST skimpy outfits that show of as much boobage as possible” sort of way and their weapons are pretty novel.

Then there are the “foreign exchange students” where they are all apparently named something Japanese, flaunt stereotypes like they flaunt their chests, and the chinese girl fights with what looks like buns filled with dynamite. I think I’ll need a moment just to recover from this sight.

… You know, a valid complaint many bring up whenever you put a Native American in a headdress is that each feather is supposed to represent a brave and heroic act his tribe found worthy of acknowledgement, but in most cases  people ignore actual history and put them on just for the heck of it. But since this is an academy about supernaturally powerful warriors (hard as it is to believe sometimes), this girl very well may have earned enough feathers to deserve that headdress… and the likelyhood that they actually put that much thought into her outfit is so staggeringly low I don’t even know why I brought it up. But still, that excu-I mean justifica- I mean totally thought out and valid reason is there for those who wish to use it.

    • sd28

hey i learnt some thing new so its a good comment to me

      • Göran Isacson

Ha ha, always nice to have educated someone, no matter in what context said education happens ;)

  • raymk

I like all the band ninjas but my favorite character is the female in the bottom right with the black and red dress with the black tights and heels.  I just like everything about her and she just seems so classy.

  • XiaomuArisu

Aria’s oversized cymbals that crush enemies to death.
    I see what u did there…

  • alixraen

I’ve never intentionally wished that a game or series doesn’t get localized, and if this is your cup of tea then more power to you, but I frankly don’t see any redeeming value in this series or in bringing it overseas.

    • FitzpatrickPhillips

As someone who has Senran Kagura Burst, the game is a super solid beat’em up. If you’re into them, you’ll love it and the mechanics. The music is boss and the story is interesting. Most of all though, is the great character backstory and their chemistry with each other. And of course, the loads of fanservice and character customization.

      • alixraen

        I appreciate the fact you didn’t freak out on me, I admit my comment could be interpreted in quite a negative manner. ^ ^’ Anyways, while I do enjoy beat-em-ups, I don’t think I would be able to get past the massive permeating fanservice, and even moreso, I just can’t play JP games (unless its something like Project Diva where I only have to navigate a few menus). I just have to know what’s going on ^^;

  • http://wiredjungle.wordpress.com/ DrakosAmatras

Now that I look at it: Imminent mammary laceration.

  • Demeanor

I don’t know, my sharp senses and attention to detail are telling me all these girls have something in common, but what is it, I wonder? XD
Now excuse me while I go back praying for a Shinovi vs localization ^ ^
DAT stereotyped blonde blue-eyed american… O_O just wow

  • OatMatadoQuatro

    Students?! Goddamnit! That’s not legal!

    • http://twitter.com/MooGoesTheMaid Anesia Hunter

you don’t know the ages though… in shinovi vs there are students in their 20s and age is almost meaningless when it comes to anime, manga and video games, since sometimes you see loli-like characters and they turn out to be 5 times older than all of the other characters ages put together.

  • Icedus

Band ninjas.  This has officially gotten too ridiculous for me not to check out.

    • ThunderGod_Cid

      Rookie.
After you read Ranma 1/2, NOTHING is “too ridiculous.”

      • OatMatadoQuatro

After you read Gintama you learn that ridiculous is part of our lives and all of us have to be ridiculous to be normal.

        Yeah, ridiculous comment.

  • cameron forsyth
  • Patrick Henry de Dios

This game is getting more and more interesting. XD

  • SilverSven

Complete ripoff of Idolmaster Mobage. Everything is the same, including the milking of a rising franchise. Will get Shinovi Versus but this? Stupid cash-in using still images and a legal form of gambling.

  • ThunderGod_Cid

Awww yeah, guess I’m importing another Senran Kagura game.

  • Crimson Tiger

Siliconera…..PLEASE tell these guys we need a localized version…Dont change the voices….Just translate the text and set it for our region!! PLEASE!!

    • Damarius Wingfield

GOOD IDEA but, some of like to read Japanese so keep both texts so we can swap them in options menu!

    • http://wiredjungle.wordpress.com/ DrakosAmatras

If only localizing was that easy…

  • KingRuff

Every time I see artwork for a Senran Kagura game I hope everyday that tit gets localized.

    • B1u3z

      *tit – intentional misspelling?

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000172099718 Dominic Hunter

“Idol Ninja”. Oxymoron at its finest.
