By Spencer . November 25, 2012 . 1:00pm

Indie run & gun mecha shooter Gunhound EX was originally made for PCs. If you haven’t seen Gunhound EX before watch this.

Under Defeat HD developer G.rev has been working on a PC port, which was scheduled to come out on December 20. Unfortunately, a fatal bug was discovered in the last leg of development and the team needs additional time to fix the issue. Gunhound EX has been rescheduled for January 31, 2013. Have an itchy, robotic trigger finger? You can grab a demo of Gunhound EX here.

Gunhound EX will cost 3,129 yen ($38) on UMD or 2,500 yen ($30) as a PlayStation Network download. G.rev also has a limited edition with a soundtrack and mini art book for 5,229 yen ($63).

  • Oho~ A 30$ Japanese PSN game? Color me intrigued.

  • Godmars

Hate how games like this aren’t as common as they use to be.

    • Different genres had their popularity booms at different points. Not much we can do about that.

    • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Yeah.T_T I remember during my childhood, 2d platformer, shump, and beat’em up style is the one ruling the whole consoles while now, the trend have shifted into 3d action and fps which i am not a really big fan for.T_T

      • ShinGundam

What? 3D action is great, I mean don’t you like the mix of old 2D school adventure and action in 3D like classic resident evil, Onimusha, Galerian and Haunting Ground etc…

        • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

I do like 3d action but after playing them too much, i am kinda burn out here. And sadly, those games are too easy sometimes for my taste.T_T
For good old shump, i would play them like crazy only to get a better score or 2d platformer like Ghost’n Goblin where i go crazy ape only to finish the game once and being trolled to finish the game once more.^_^

          • ShinGundam

Well, different strokes for different folks. I don’t think i have played a game because it is challenging. I don’t know most of platformers/action etc that i played are easy games.

    • Elvick

I blame people who devalue 2D games. Sadly, many people think if it’s 2D it should only be a PSN/XBLA/etc only game around $10. :/

Which is ridiculous to me, since most 2D games are more fun to me and certainly will last the test of time better. 8bit games still look good. Early 3D is iffy.

Besides, 2D takes a lot of effort. It’s not easy, which is why full 2D isn’t done much anymore. Usually 2.5D now, since it’s easier. And when 2.5D is done right I don’t mind, like Trine… but I digress.

      • ShinGundam

What do you mean by early 3D? when i think of an early 3D i think of Star Cruise PC88 or some 3D shooters.

        • Elvick

Early 3D games. They look fug.

      • Godmars

Actually 2D games should have been on PSN/XBL, but at $20 to $30. The initial $10 price point pretty much crippled the platform for the very games which would have done it the most good. Devs generally cheapened out and mostly used Flash or scaled down UE3 instead of coming up with new game engines, which just wasn’t worth the effort with the $10 limit.

        • Elvick

          I respectfully disagree completely.

  • ShinGundam

    Is it available for Vita ? I don’t have a PSP :/

    • The article says it’s available on PSN, so, yeah.

  • benhofb

Huh… A more shmup-like Metal Slug-type game? Count me in!

    • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Of course.^_^ More of this genre would always be good…….speaking of Metal Slug……SNK, you still alive?T_T

      • s07195

Hopefully there will be a Metal Slug 8. I’m already done with MSXX, and my craving still exists…

        • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

I heard they did intent bringing the game to 3DS firstly but till now, i never actually heard any news about SNK.T_T I can only hope that they are still alive there.

  • there should be more mecha games like this, i really miss my assault suit series.

  • Göran Isacson

Looking pretty darn neat, I have to admit. While I’m not usually much for the kind of sprited enemies who are a bunch of separate sprites stuck together as in this game, this game seems to contain enough explosive action that the whole “uncanney valley” effect that artstyle usually provokes in me can be overlooked.

  • This looks awesome and the import price is just right. Gotta get Under Defeat HD first however.

  • looks great, can’t wait for this game to be out.
