Laharl Is The Overlord In Disgaea Dimension 2, But Demons Say "Meh"

By Spencer . December 20, 2012 . 6:32pm

Disgaea Dimension 2 takes place several years after Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness where Laharl is the de facto Overlord. The problem is demons are dilly-dallying doing their own thing and not listening to Laharl. It’s time to tell the Netherworld about King Krichevskoy’s passing and make Laharl’s presence known – demon style – by using force. Laharl’s loyal followers Etna and Flonne join him on this adventure along with… Laharl’s sister who also wants the throne.

Disgaea Dimension 2 uses the series standard battle system where you can team up with adjacent characters for combo attacks and lift/throw allies. Nippon Ichi created new attacks for Disgaea Dimension 2.

One of the new features in this game are mid-battle event scenes.

Disgaea Dimension 2 comes out on March 20 for PlayStation 3. Nippon Ichi teases this game will have a battle between Overlord Laharl and Members of the Rebellion.

  • He may have gotten back the role of Main Character, but with subjects that doesn’t give a damn with him being in-charge of the Netherworld..

    Tough break, Harlie.

  • MikeTxn

Calling it now, Asagi is the leader of the rebellion.

    • Pockystix

      well, that rebellion is screwed

        All Hail Asagi!

      • WingsOfEternity

        JIBUN WO

  • Etna looks weirdly flat or skinny tall in one of the images.

Also, I still think Laharl and his sister might be Nephilims.

    • Derek E Nay

You know, Etna will read that and come after you.

      • phangtom

        Beware the ironing boards!

        • SprintsMcGee

“We said nothing about how flat your chest is dood”

      • Testsubject909

It’s all part of his brilliant plan of summoning Etna into this dimension. Sure he might suffer and death might be a side effect but on the flip side, he’d be bringing Etna over to come after him.

  • Rihawf

Etna’s image on team up image, rofl

  • DesmaX

I hope Jeniffer, Gordon and Thursday are in this

    • DurableTomb

*Gently swings a small pendulum in the air* You want to add Cyborg Kurtis to that sentence. You want to add Cyborg Kurtis to that sentence.

  • phangtom

I see nothing has changed then (in regards to no one respecting Laharl). XD

    • Testsubject909

All is well, now bring in the big boobed ladies and watch as he writhes from the exposure to his weakness!

      • Tenno Seremel

Etna and Flonne will take care of them. Free of charge.

  • Raze

Laharl will take care of them….

But I need to know his sister…I wonder how they will make her personality…
Manipulating with smile, weak, shy type character but actually a demon queen inside ???

    • DurableTomb

My guess is that she’ll be the bratty type who thinks she is above everyone else (Laharl in particular) and who makes a bad situation worse by rubbing verbal salt into the wounds, up until something seriously bad goes down and she steps over the line and gets smacked (literally, likely by Etna) into realizing how much of a useless brat she had been up until now. It’s a tad cliche, but why not?

  • komiko12

I hope there will be combination attacks that are exclusive to a specific team of characters like Laharl-Etna-Flonne, Etna-Prinny, Red-Blue-Green Mages and so on…

    • DurableTomb

I never thought that I could get bored of seeing an attack that appears to shatter reality, until I played D4 and saw my allies do so with a three-person combo… again, and again, and again, and…

      • komiko12

Ahh. But when you get to post-game, combos and offensive magic won’t matter anymore and it’s all about one-shotting enemies with other skills.

That’s why they said that they would balance the game closer to Disgaea 1. character-specific combo attacks would add variety to the same old attacks.

  • Raharu95

Nice Cut-in Etna. Oh please let the Holy Dragons Return. They could not have just simply added the Scarecrows.

  • zferolie

That third picture, where Laharl is holding is sister… I think I spot a new class. The girl with her hair covering her eyes.

    • DurableTomb

Given her shackles, I think she may be the replacement for the male healer class from the original Disgaea. Other than healers and the Sinner class from Disgaea 2, I know of no other humanoid class that wears those kinds of shackles.

  • Yuriangels

Hey dood, can we prinnys join the rebellion ? (don’t tell master Etna!)

    • AkuLord3

*picks up and throws* 83 Rebellion over

  • War of the Roses; Disgaea style! We’re about to see a tale of the greatest dynastic family war, ever!

  • Guest

Master Etna looks amazing, dood! Laharl is almost a big boy now! He just needs a shirt, dood.

  • DurableTomb

I’m calling it right now. The red-haired man in a previously posted image that included Fem-Laharl, and whose shadow I am almost certain that second pic is of, is Etna’s gender flip, other-dimension self (not many demons in disgaea art feature that type of tail that prominently besides Etna). He’ll also be the leader of the rebels and does so because he bares the same lack of trust in Laharl’s abilities to lead (whether it is the male or female version he has issues with). Also, Etna’s battle cut-in… 0_0

    • What image had fem-laharl?

      • DurableTomb

Diggy, diggy, diggy… Ah, this one here!

    • Göran Isacson

Oh, duude. I am totally seeing Man-Etna in that guy now… but would that make the blonde an alternate Flonne? If it’s a guy it’s quite a girly one, and if it’s a girl… does that mean… OUR version is the guy!?

No probably not, that’s silly. But still, food for thought.

  • Anime10121

Man NisA needs to get on the ball! Amazon announces Atelier Ayesha before they even hint at its release, and now we have a new Disgaea that, as of now, has yet to even be hinted at for release (I mean usually they’ll hint at Disgaea announcements soon after their announced in Japan)..

  • DurableTomb

Anyone else miss the days where Nekomata didn’t look like they were wearing bodysuits? And are the Prinnies playing a losing game of Old Maid with the Witch in that Bonus Gauge art?

  • ragingmerifes

Considering what happened in Disgaea 2, I thought Laharl would have more respect from his vassals.

    • Elvick

This is a sequel to the original game though.

      • ragingmerifes

But what happened in Disgaea 2 is still canon.

        • Testsubject909

          We don’t know the timeline.

          This might be prior to.

          • ragingmerifes

Laharl wore the same outift of Disgaea 1 in Disgaea 2. And the hair looked the same too.

          • Testsubject909

An outfit can change for any reasons, it’s still hard to say when in the timeline between this and all other Disgaea games.

And then there’s the Prinny game where you fight a Prinny Laharl.

          • Are the prinny games cannon?

          • Good point, never really thought about that. Well, actually, I guess I have never had to think about it until now. I like this and what it does to the community.

  • Demeanor

Ahahah Sicily feels embarassed from piggybacking when you throw her as Laharl! XD these pics are really nice, Sici seems to be using a… book?! as a weapon? Can’t wait to use Love Knuckles, Prinny Drops and see bust-comparing victory screens when this game’s out XD Laharl looks really [email protected], as it should be! XD

  • psycho_bandaid

Leave it to Laharl to be the main character in a game where you crush a rebellion. I am SO there whenever NISA gets a chance to work their magic.

  • Do you freakin see that character silhouette with the tail that looks like Etna’s? If this means Etna backstory, I will cry.

    • Testsubject909

With the disappearance of Michael, you are THE Etna fan.

      Do us proud.

      • *Bows*

I am at your service. I will do my utmost.

  • Göran Isacson

I was about to go “Several years? But they look almost exactly like OOOH right. Laharl is 1400 hundred years or so”. Don’t see the fact that they ARE in fact aging at a slower rate than humans used too often in game, so I forget about it every now and then.

  • riceisnice

It’s just as I feared. It looks like they might have taken out some of my favorite generics. I don’t see Heavy Knight, Professor, or the Wind Wolf anywhere.

  • Joshua Myers

Can’t wait for it to be released buying collectors day 1 XD

  • Devon Peluso

Who be dat smexy swordsman girl blocking the dragon’s fire breath?

  • OverlordZetta

Soooo… Basically it’s going to be a Disgaea 1 rehash with new characters? They even brought Flonne back, despite the fact she’s clearly moved on to bigger things?

Less and less interested the more I hear about this. I’m just gonna keep on waiting for 5.

  • Heh, looks good. Can’t wait to see these new characters. Etna’s still as flat as ever I see. :P Well, if she wasn’t…she just wouldn’t be Etna!?

  • Amine Hsu Nekuchan

Huh, Flonne is still in her Fallen Angel garb? Not that’s I’m complaining but I thought she was reapplying for angel-hood or something in the visual novel which Ias assuming this was after…

  • WyattEpp

This might be a bit of a weird thing to notice, but I really like their fonts.

  • I hope we get Laharl’s Disgaea 1 laughter on his meteor impact move. I listened to all of them on youtube, and the original is by far the best, and one of the things that really endeared Disgaea to me when I played the first one. I just loved hearing that laugh as he rode the meteor.
