Retro Character Models Headed To Resident Evil 6

By Ishaan . December 24, 2012 . 10:30am

Retro character models inspired by the early Resident Evil games are headed to Resident Evil 6, but you’ll need to participate in online matches to unlock them.

On December 28th, Capcom will hold a “Zombie Mayhem” event on the online portal, where the goal will be for all Resident Evil 6 players to come together and kill as many zombies as possible. If the kill count reaches 15 million zombies worldwide, all participants will get to unlock a single costume from this set.

Capcom say they plan to hold more similar events in the future that will allow players to unlock the rest of the retro-inspired models as well.

  • Detrimont

am i the only one who thinks this is super awesome

  • That’s amazing.

  • Elemiel

Oh gosh, they remind me of Sims. XD

  • EmptyWarrior

    Whoaaa, I want that Leon

  • malek86

This, this will appear in my nightmares.

I should at least point out that at no time the models in RE games were like this. These look like they came out of Alone in the Dark with some texturing popped in. Excess of nostalgia?

  • DesmaX

I just imagine if Square made a Cloud costume like that for LR: FF XIII

    • Zonic505

FF7-style model for Lightning as an unlockable would be so funny/awesome.

  • Brandonmkii

Haha oh wow, this is great.

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

Cool, thats a really nice event. Would like to see devs try this with other games.

  • ffboi7

Dat polygon Leon and Ada :D RE2 memories :D

  • Timo Tuiskunen

Too bad you can’t use them on the story mode.

  • Barrylocke89

I don’t even think the original PSX RE games looked THAT chunky. That’s like something out of Virtua Fighter 1.

    • Kaihedgie

      They kinda did

    • Juan Andrés Valencia

I played RE3: Nemesis on the Gamecube on my HDTV last night, it’s not that blocky but it’s pretty close.

  • Richard N

    Piers hair looks freaking awesome.

  • Shadowman

    Uhhh..Yeah, very retro.

  • Hetare Kaiser

They look more like something you’d see on the Sega Saturn than the PS1.

    • Brion Valkerion

RE1 was on Sega Saturn as well.

      • And it still looked better than this, lol.

I mean I love the idea, I really do, but this is definitely worse than what we got back in the day.

  • konsama

This is actually one of the few best things Capcom has done this year, let’s hope it’s a prelude for next year awesomeness.

Now if i was with my PS3, D: not gonna be able to participate in that. T_T

  • Zonic505

I couldn’t help but think of Virtua Fighter when seeing those models. Nevertheless, these are hilariously retro.

  • Nemesis_Dawn

I think I’m the only one who thinks these are a waste of a prize. At the very least, if you’re going to do these outfits, do them on the current character models, instead of these VF characters calling themselves RE characters.

    • Kaihedgie

  • Not sure if want….

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

  • They look so edgy.

  • Juan Andrés Valencia

This… is one of the most awesome things I’ve ever seen.

  • Charmchar

This is a fun treat for us fans of Resident Evil, thanks Capcom

  • Romangelo

    It doesn’t look that bad in RE1 & 2….

  • Haha, it’s so fun to look at games back then and see how far graphics have come. Though, I don’t think RE on the PS1 looked THAT blocky. These remind me of VF graphics.

  • Brion Valkerion

No one is playing this anymore, Capcom you missed that window by miles lol.

    • Kaihedgie

No one except the millions who bought and still play this game :P

      You aren’t everyone, sir

    • Brandonmkii

Though how we feel about the game may differ, I just want to chime in that over 1.5 million people are currently playing it, like at this very moment. And that’s just the PS3. Not sure if they’re counting 360 servers too. So like, 10 zombies per person, and we’re good.

  • Alfy Masamune

love Res, all the games but i definetly won’t be using these when i play, xD.

  • badmoogle

I hope this is a sign from Capcom that the series will go back to its roots one day but the truth is it probably doesn’t mean anything.

    • Kaihedgie

What “roots”? Tank controls, silly voice acting, fixed camera angles and jump scares?

      • Never

Just fixed camera angles and jump scares, thank you.

  • protofox

top right picture : best looking boobs in video game history. look at those pixels..mmmm im getting so flustered.

  • Masengan

More like minecraft inspired models lol.

  • Göran Isacson

That is honestly pretty hilarious. It would be so weird to see those… THINGS… run around next to a HD game model, but I think it’d be a weirdness well worth experiencing.

  • AuraGuyChris

    That’s stupid blocky high definition.
They forgot the blurry little details!

  • darkfox1

    wow that’s actually kinda ….scary looking…

  • JustThisOne

    “Barry. Where’s Barry.”

  • d19xx

Where’s my low poly Jill Sammich?

  • isotrex

Same here, I’d like to see Squeenix do the same with the recent FF series on FFVII blocky style characters especially on toys.

  • XiaomuArisu

Nice they gave even the new characters retro style.
But I would prefer new costumes in RE6 style but the option to make everybody retroXD

  • Crok425

… Where the characters that blocky on the other games? ._.

  • Jon Jacob Black

Looks like Virtua Fighter 2 graphics

  • l777l

Try to make games inspired by the early Resident Evil games. Well, at least you’re somewhat getting closer, Capcom.
