Siren, The PlayStation 2 Horror Game, Is Headed To PlayStation Network

By Ishaan . January 10, 2013 . 10:50am

PlayStation 2 horror title, Siren, is headed to the PlayStation Network for PS3 next week. The game will be made available on Tuesday.Takafumi Fujisawa, former Executive Producer and VP of Sony’s Japan Studio, reminisces about the game on the PlayStation blog.

“We were on a mission to formulate a form of fear or horror that would resonate with an audience regardless of their cultural background, and to deliver that from a very intentionally Japanese perspective,” Fujisawa recalls.

Here’s a neat tidbit in case you missed out on it before. The Siren series was created by Keiichiro Toyama, who originally created Silent Hill for Konami. Following his work on the Siren games, Toyama most recently directed Gravity Rush for the PlayStation Vita, which he says was influenced by Crackdown.

Cool. I heard this game is really difficult? How does it compare to the PS3 remake? That one became too action-filled about halfway through. Shibito weren’t so scary anymore since you could just punch them in the face all the time.

It’s much harder than the remake. And also better. And has a better and more complete story. Only graphics are worse… controls are a little bit weird as well, but you get used to it. Bottom line: if you ever have a problem with this game, it’s most likely not gonna be lack of challenge…

Two hits and you’re dead. Siren is extremely tense and scarier than it’s sequels for this fact alone. You still have to fight the Shibito. Yeah you’re right about that, the third game was a lot more action than the first after the halfway point.

  • I liked the remade PS3 Version way more.
I wouldnt say no to a PSN Version of Siren 2 though.

This is one of my favorite games ever. I’m so buying this! Best survival horror I’ve ever played, and 2nd best stealth game. The storytelling is just awesome. It’s also really hard, but in a very fair and well designed way. They should make more games like Siren nowadays…

  • Sean ‘Geg’ Reddie

Godsend. Sony should really get on releasing a fourth game. Buying this! Shall show support.

    • Andrey Carvalho

Same here. How I wanted another Siren game… or even a remake of the second one, which is my favorite.

  • I want to play siren but one of them is censored, the second didn’t get released in NA and that weird PS3 remake/re-imagining it seems like a pain to experience the series properly.

    • Sean ‘Geg’ Reddie

Import the European PS3 game, its uncensored and on Blu-Ray.
Siren 1 was censored? Unaware of that. And Siren 2 is in Europe if you have a region-free PS2.

      • Andrey Carvalho

NA Siren 1 is not really “censored”. They’ve changed the age of some characters on their bios, and the voice acting is atrocious, but other than that, I don’t think there are relevant changes when compared to the original.

Now we need a Siren 2 re-release or remake. Maybe even with 3D support ;)

  • But I haven’t finished all that flood of Dora games that came to PS2 classics last week on PSN. I joke, but yeah it’s good to see this coming.

  • Will there be a DLC stage with some shibito? Will there be a playable shibito?

  • Bloodios

    I would’ve like the duology to be HD-remastered though…

I still cant believe that the maker of Silent Hill and Siren was the same person who made Gravity Rush.
