What Else Is New In Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days In Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix?

By Sato . January 24, 2013 . 11:22pm

It’s recently been revealed that Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix will include a 2 hours and 50 minutes long video to summarize Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days. Famitsu reports on what else to expect from the film.

According to Famitsu, the original version’s cut-scenes will be getting a high-quality make over. They’ll be adding voice acting to many parts from the cut-scenes that previously didn’t have any.

Players will also be able to pick specific cut-scenes from different chapters. That way, you won’t be required to sit there for almost a full 3 hours to enjoy it. Roxas’ Diary will be available from the start, with the Secret Reports available afterwards.

A custom PlayStation 3 theme will be made available after viewing all the content. They’ll also be implementing trophies to the Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days part of the HD 1.5 Remix.

  • For all of that you could have made three games in one, but Noooo.

    • KingRuff

How does adding ~3 hours of cutscenes=they could have added another game? I just really wanna hear how that equation made sense to you.

      • Do you really want to replay more that 3 hours of Days?

      • Actually, you made the equation, not me. Anyways what I meant was they could have made a remake of days as opposed to making 3 hours worth of cutscenes. Get it now?

  • disgaea36

This is such a disappointment. They should have just made a collection of 1,2, and Re: Chain of Memories. 358 days Or like my friends like to call it improper fraction lol was a unique stand alone title just like birth by sleep. Instead they cop out and give us 2 games and a quarter. I’ll just continue to patiently wait for news on KH3 if if ever comes out like another game that is still in the air.

    • Elvick

      “just like Birth By Sleep”

Have fun not understanding anything in KH3… because you clearly don’t understand anything as it is. So you won’t understand going forward either.

    • Gael Summers

You do know that BBS was not a unique stand-alone title, but actually part of the story, right?

    • Relytgninroht

BbS happens to be a prequel to the whole series, and is one of the main games.

    • without BBS , i’m sure you will be completely dumbfound when KH3 story was told !!!

    • KingRuff

KH doesn’t have any stand-alone titles get your facts straight before running your mouth. God trolls these days can’t even use google….

    • The levels of facepalm on this one…

      • disgaea36

the levels of Life you need to gain…

    • disgaea36

By stand alone title I mean unique to a portable system and gameplay mechanics, both are similar to the ps2 but were made specifically to each of those systems which made them unique on their own. I’m not talking story wise.

  • Kyle

I don’t see the problem with 358/2 Days being included instead of a third game. I feel like people are being greedy here. I understand, to a point, the issues people have with this, considering that these are just HD remakes, but I’d have bought KH1 as a stand-alone in HD. I’m glad to be getting the extra game and cutscenes at all.

As for the relevance of 358/2 Days, I’m of the opinion that it was a brilliant choice. Let’s face it: the strongest point of 358/2 Days was the storyline. It was otherwise, a cumbersome and repetitive game, with some innovative, but poorly implemented features. I’d much prefer to just watch these HD cutscenes, rather than push through the whole game for a third time, just to get a recap on the story.

    • Agreeeeeed.

    • I do agreed , but i think you said it’s strongest point is the storyline is not completely true . That because 358/2 been the first portable one so at that time , i really think it’s gameplay are awesome . But when BBS and R:Coded or even 3D with deck system come out , 358/2 became outdate , don’t you think ?

      • KingRuff

Chain of Memories was the first portable one.

    • I do like some of the mission scenarios at the end of the game, though. Roxas’s level halving, kicking Saïx’s butt, and the first final boss (and that heart-wrenching music!).

But, at least this isn’t a gutting as, say, trying to adapt Crisis Core into a movie, given how ITS final battle plays out.

  • AnimusVox

Wait so you don’t actually play 358/2 days? It’s a film of sorts? I’m not against it to be honest if that’s true. Just trying to get some facts.

    • Vitor Navarrete

      That’s right. Just a film.

      • Thank god.

      • AnimusVox

Ah I see. I didn’t really like that particular title anyways so I’m cool with it. Thanks :>

  • Alex Sargeant

358/2 is three hours of cutscenes? Are you sure you’ve…

    …got it summarized?

    • SoulEater98

      Flamio sir, flamio.

    • Brandon001

      you win, you just win.

    • Göran Isacson

You are a King among men good sir. Not as high up as King Mickey, but pretty close.

  • Nasser Al-Ojayan

Wait does this mean that Kingdom Hearts 358/2 is included in the game?

Or should i just go buy it separately?

    • Bloodios

What included in Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix is simply a collection of CUTSCENES from Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days. You would have to buy the DS game in order fully enjoy what it has to offer. In my opinion though, while story is decent, the gameplay itself just wasn’t that fun…

      • Tails the Foxhound

Felt like KH to me, I don’t know what people are talking about when they say that the gameplay wasn’t fun in Days.

        • When is the last time you played Days?

          • Tails the Foxhound

Sometime before the 3DS dropped, I don’t know exactly.

          • That’s why you still think it was a good game.

          • Tails the Foxhound

That’s nowhere near long enough for a “nostalgia” argument. I played it, and yeah it was kinda grindy, but I still play PSO Ep 1+2 for the Cube so that’s ok with me. Also it reminds me more of KH 1 than 2 in gameplay, which again is A.O.K in my book.

          • Oh? I hadn’t realized there was a mandatory time period needed for nostalgia.

          • Tails the Foxhound

You’re argument is that I like it so much because my warm fuzzy memories from way back when are clouding my judgement is it not? It was only about 2 years ago tops that I played the game, I still very vividly remember my frustrations with the game and I still say it was a very good game.

          • Days is not a very good game. Days is an awkwardly paced cash grab (much in the vein of coded) that has enough interesting things happening that the fans forgive it. The controls are unbelievably awkward, the graphics are blocky, the camera just sucks, and it’s actually glitchy. Oh and let’s not forget about the repetition. Days has you revisiting areas more often than any other franchise game to date. It’s not a good *game*. It’s an okay story and an interesting experiment, but one that ultimately fails.

          • Tails the Foxhound

Now see those are arguments I can mostly agree with (never seen any glitches though, just lucky?), but I still beg to differ on your ultimate conclusion. I personally never found the controls or camera unwieldy either though I guess I could see it being a problem if you don’t get used to it (kinda like Kid Icarus Uprising).

          • I was well used to it. I got impatient and beat it in Japanese before it was localized, so trust me when I say it was unwieldy to play through. When you aren’t getting swept into the story the flaws stand out much easier. Compare the controls to RE:coded. They got too ambitious and the game suffered for it. I think Days makes an excellent CG movie and would have been much better received as such. They can cut away all of the fat from the Disney worlds and tell the story of Roxas and Xion concisely.

          • Tails the Foxhound

            I haven’t played Coded yet.
I don’t see why the controls of the old one should make a difference though, Resident Evil: Revelations is getting a console port that will inevitably rework the controls (or use the CPP set), nothing is stopping SE from giving you a better camera and better controls in a Days console version.

          • The repetition and the fact that the plot doesn’t advance for over two thirds of the game, plus the inevitable removal of the multiplayer aspect. PLus they would likely have to rework the whole crowns and hearts aspect. KHFM? Simple port: rework the engine a bit to match the second game and upscale the graphics. KHRE:CoM? Simple port: rework the engine a bit to match the second game and upscale the graphics. KH358? Rebuild the entire game from the ground up, figure out some new concepts to replace all the things you’re going to have to take out, re-balance mission mode if left in, consider streamlining the repetitive nature of missions, consider lengthening missions as this is a console release and no longer a pick up and play handheld game. Why the hell would they go through all that work when they can just as easily make a movie and get on to HD versions of II, BbS, and 3D ?

          • Tails the Foxhound

The fact that they bothered to make Re:Chain after Chain at all should answer that question. Besides, multiplayer being a huge deal on consoles, I’d think they’d jump at the chance to make HD Days. Outside of the graphics (neally all of which can be repurposed from 2), I really don’t think Days HD would really be all that intensive on the dev side.

          • multiplayer isn’t a huge deal on consoles. COD and Halo are, but who the hell is playing dead space 2 or RE6?

          • Also, you’re glossing over the fact that Days doesn’t play like a typical KH game. Missions in Days last less than five minutes to help the pick up and play aspect. Most KH games with have you in the world for an extended period of time; at least 20 minutes or so. They would have to adjust that to prevent player fatigue. Believe me when I say that Days is not a simple port. Plus when they moved Chain to RE:Chain, they were moving to a bigger install base. There are not more PS3’s in homes than there are DS’s. SE wants to spend less time on this, not more.

          • Tails the Foxhound

It’s not unlike PSO again in that aspect. If they really wanted to, they could make you able to load up a bunch of missions at once (the ones that could actually be mashed up without messing them up). Doubling up on missions could increase experience and rare drops gained through the missions too. It’s not like it would be easy, but I think it’d be dumb to ignore the game because it would take more effort.

Also, Dead Space and Resident Evil 6 (lol, not this one) are survival horrors, no one really plays those co-op. The Mercenaries mode in 5 was fairly active though, still kinda is on 360 (not huge, but not dead like say GG2: Overture).

          • That’s a lot of effort.

  • Niermyico

If I can sit and watch Titanic or LofR in one sitting, I can surely sit and watch 2hr and 50mins of Days.

    • Vitor Navarrete

2h30m of it will be Roxas, Axel and Xion eating sea salt icecream………………. I’m ok with that XD

  • Isaac Newton

358/2 days was the most tragic/saddest yet heartwarming of all the KH.

    • Tails the Foxhound

I’ve never wished harder for a character to not be dead than I did at the end of Days.

      • SunOatBoatMatadorQuattro

Riku had his motives but I understand where you are coming from. The one who was kind of annoying was Saix. I never got how come Roxas didn’t kill that guy considering how he treated Xion whereas Sora didn’t care.

  • TheDocMontalban

3 hour video, that’s it? Weak.

    – Hideo K.

    • Bloodios

Should be more than enough to cover the entire game, in my opinion.

      • That joke sailed right over your head, huh?

        • Bloodios

Totally overlooked the “Hideo K.” part. It all makes sense now *LOL*

        • Kefkiroth

Having not played any Metal Gear game, could you explain it to me?

          • Look for reviews of Metal Gear Solid 4. Or better plan, play metal gear solid 4.

  • Mr_SP

    Wait… trophies for a 3 hour video?

    • AnimusVox

Haha that’s why I asked if it was a flick just to be sure since there are trophies for some reason xD

  • XiaomuArisu

Trophy unlocked:Saw one of the best KH stories.

    • But this isn’t Dream Drop Distance or Birth by Sleep. Or did you mistype “worst”?

      • You silly goose. That award only goes to Coded, due to the fact that it’s only contribution to the KH History is that one minute of cutscene time in the ending. And that would be learning the contents of the letter from the KH2 endind. Everything else was a waste of time.

… except for he gameplay, that was fun. All in all, Coded was the only KH title with an Excuse Plot. And that’s why it is at the bottom of the list!

        • Days had terrible storytelling. The vast majority of the story didn’t happen until the last third of the game, it wasn’t fun to play and it looked (and ran) like crap. Coded served to tie up some of the loose threads for previous games and to shift a portion of the storytelling burden off of KH3 which, considering the threads coming from from 3D, BBS, and II, needs all of the assistance it can get. And this coming from someone who’s favorite character in the franchise is Xion. You’re allowed to like problematic things, but liking them doesn’t make them not problematic.

          • Ereek

The vast majority of the story didn’t happen until the last third of the game

This is an issue with most, if not all, of the KH games, not just Days. I think the original game did the best job of avoiding it and balancing story and gameplay. KH2 had pretty much three info dumps: the beginning, the middle, and the end, with next to nothing in-between.

          • Naw brah. II had a pretty clever if flawed story telling mechanic. First world visit = movie plot and mention of Riku. Second world visit = difficulty bump and the ties to the KH plot with the organization. In fact the second half of the game was a pretty constant stream of new information. It wasn’t as good as 3D or BBS but it works. Plus there’s the draw of new disney worlds, something that Days didn’t have at all. The story in Chain was pretty consistent too: halls = plot. Something almost always happened between floors. BBS and 3D are the high water marks of KH story. Chain is consistent. II is mostly consistent. I is consistent. That’s most of the KH games.

Remember “The vast majority of the story didn’t happen until the last third of the game” != “The vast majority of the major story beats didn’t happen until the last third of the game” I’m not saying that the biggest things didn’t happen till endgame, I’m saying that nothing that mattered happened until endgame. It’s a small yet significant difference.

          • LightZero

I disagree KH1 was very much guilty of it. It had a story in the beginning, middle, and most especially the end. In fact, I always like to say that the true KH story doesn’t begin until you reach HB. Everything else was filler. KH2 had the same structure. I say BbS and KH3D probably has the best balance of the bunch. Days is the only one that was written well. As a whole the KH series suffers from pacing problems it just less apparent in BbS and KH3D.

        • Göran Isacson

          This moogle speaks the truth!

Or… is that “kupos” the truth? I can’t tell with these silly ittle fussballs they all sound the same to me.

  • Anon-non

Sora’s Western VA sounds way to old to be recording new lines for KH1. Then again, it worked for Re:CoM.

    • LynxAmali

He was also a kid, like literally a kid, when they did KH1, if I’m remembering right.

      • Yes, he was 12 when he voiced Sora in the original Kingdom Hearts.

    • Leon_Tekashi

Puberty hit him right after he woke up at the beginning of Re: CoM.

    • Vitor Navarrete

But there isn’t any new lines in KH FM or KH Re:CoM. Only 358/2 Days is getting new ones. The only FM that got new lines was KH II FM

      • There were repurposed lines in FM for the Xemnas fight.

  • Since I stopped purchasing Nintendo handhelds, I never got to play 358/2 Days, so at least I can watch the important scenes.

  • DesmaX

Nice! It doesn’t really need a platinum (It would be too much), but some
trophies for 358/2 days will help me see all of it (I mean, I already
    beated the game before)

  • PoSiTiV3tEnSiOn

    Looks good!
