By Spencer . January 29, 2013 . 10:08pm

Dengeki PlayStation has an interesting tidbit in their article about Metal Gear Rising: Revengance. The magazine says Konami will release  VR missions and sub stories with other characters as downloadable content. Details about pricing and release dates were not announced.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengance comes out on February 19 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. In Japan, the game is PS3 only.

got a feeling this game will be short, so some extra missions are very welcome
is it fair to make this paid DLC though? it wouldn’t bother me so much if the game already has extra missions in it though

    • Pythia Brixham

[Joking Mode: ON] I would expect the game to be an okay length, maybe about ten to twelve hours… But eight to ten of those hours would be cutscenes.

      • Go2hell66

you say your joking but the scary thing is you might actually be right o_o

      • ZenTzen

actually in an interview with a konami europe guy, he says that he played 6 hours into the game and he only finished 3 acts and going by the achievements/trophy list the game is comprised of 7 acts, also he says that cutscenes are not in the same length of games like MGS4 etc, this game will have lots of gameplay really

      • The cutscenes are about as lengthy as the ones in Bayonetta.

  • Fub Frank

    VR missions as DLC? Eh.

  • Curan_Altea

Well I’m kinda happy about this. Super excited for this game, and more content is always welcome. Not sure how I feel about paying for VR missions. Depends on what they actually are.

  • JakatoX

I hope this means they’re gonna recreate the 3 Gray Fox Missions from MGS1: VR Missions using the MGR Controls & Engine……As for Side-Stories I’d really like to find out how Gray Fox escaped and got to Shadow Moses via MGR or you know, we could have another Detective Mode like in Intergral lol

  • Solomon_Kano

Oh gosh. I still haven’t finished all of the VR missions in MGS2. I’m definitely interested in the sub-stories though.

  • T-X

This I feel, is how DLC should be done. EDIT: the side-stories not the VR missions.

  • z_merquise

    Sub-stories with other characters?

Then I hope for someone like Jetstream Sam (Raiden’s rival) to be playable with his own scenario if that is the case.

    • DriftSlave

they are most likely referring to Sunny who they mentioned before will be a “secret” character in the game.

    • Göran Isacson

Eeh, truth be told I kinda feel like… well, at least from a first glance, Jetstream is too “samey” to Raiden. I’d much prefer someone like Mistral or the “Buggy the clown”-bot in that case.

  • Masa

Remember when VR missions were already in the game?
Now they are taken out and we are charged for them. :(

    • Göran Isacson

HOLD IT *Phoenix Wright music starts playing*

That may be what memory tells you, but research into the series shows clearly that the original versions of the games did NOT include VR missions! They were always a feature of subsequent re-release versions, like Metal Gear Solid Integral and Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance. As such there is in truth very little difference between this, and previous versions of the game IF you were the type to buy the game on it’s release date.

      • Armane

He means they said there were going to be VR missions, they are now, according to Dengeki, DLC. The question is, is this more VR missions as DLC or the previously mentioned VR missions? I’m expecting the former.

        • Göran Isacson

Oh man, I received an *Objection* right back and now Manfred von Karmas theme is playing, that’s how much I’m put on the spot. I will admit that I have not been following old newsbites of this very much, and in this light I can see where his comment is coming from. If they teased the people with VR missions without mentioning up front first that they would be DLC, that’d be a whole different barrel of extra purchases.

Hopefully there will at least be some who are included in the game. Maybe they can be this games version of a Bloody Palace mode?

    • There is going to be 100 vr missions in the game launch day, the dlc means aditional vr missions. I would like to call you something tremedously offensive but then i would get banned. So i will call you silly instead.

  • Göran Isacson

Huh. Wonder if these other characters are going to be playable, or if it’s always going to be all Raiden, just teaming up with another char.

OR…. or a mode where you play as Bladewolf. That would be acceptable too.

    • Solomon_Kano

They did say some time ago that there’d be another playable character as DLC, so perhaps one of these sub-stories includes that? I’m still interested in who it’ll be, though my money’s on Sam.

      • Göran Isacson

Sam makes sense from a programmers perspective, but I hold out hope it will be one of the more “different” characters, like Mistral or the split-up-borg.

        • Solomon_Kano

I’m hoping they’ll do us one better and make it a character who isn’t even in Rising. Or at the least, somebody who isn’t a boss character. Playable Metal Gear REX for everyone!

No, but I do hope it’s something left field.

          • Göran Isacson

,,, Playable Metal gear REX WOULD be an amazing thing, I won’t even try to deny that. But yes, preferably something out of left field… I say, having read the article someone posted here in the comments which seem to semi-sort of spoil who that unexpected character is, but there’s nothing solid saying that character will be playable soo…

          • Solomon_Kano

If she’s playable that would be funny and I’d be totally okay with that.

          • Göran Isacson

They laughed at her once, for her poor cooking.

          • Solomon_Kano

I mean, her mom kinda was a cyborg ninja too. It’s in her blood!

          • Ferrick

… playable huey emmerich ? that would be rather funny and wrong at the same time

          • Solomon_Kano

            YES! I’d buy that lol.

          • Ferrick

Huey emmerich, running up the wall with wheel chair run and slicing up enemies as he drives through them… yep i’m going to hell for this…

          • Solomon_Kano

For blade mode, he tilts the wheelchair on its side and slices them with the wheels lol.

          • Ferrick

and when he beats monsoon, he attaches the sai’s on the sides of the wheelchair and the bo on the handles. yep, so going to hell for this lol

          • Solomon_Kano

At the end of the game he takes over Metal Gear REX, using his wheelchair like the headpiece on a Power Rangers megazord!

If you’re going, I guess I’ll see ya there lol

          • Ferrick

and then REX’s legs become giant revolving wheel-blade-thing and would cut through everything he passes through

i think we just created one of the most op disabled character ever XD

          • Solomon_Kano

Who’d have thunk anyone could dream up a disabled character so strong? Hahaha.

          • Ferrick

well… if you want to go all out… lets add some drills to this megazord Rex and it would grow in size (adding more drills to its body and more blades on the blade wheel thing legs) depending on the “wheelpower” (willpower) of huey >D

          • Solomon_Kano

Huey will command the wheel that will pierce the heavens~!

  • Hmmm maybe some VR missions of MGS2 boss battles Platinum style.

    • AkuLord3

That would be cool, i would love to Fight Vamp MGR Style like the cutscenes in MGS4

    • Solomon_Kano

I’d buy the hell out of that. Fatman doing crazy, Platinum-style acrobatics!

    • Göran Isacson

Raiden versus Vamp. I would buy it. I would SO buy it.

  • DarthSithZero

Did you guys notice that is not coming to PC anymore I was dying to play it on my pc at 60fps but I guess im getting the X360 version :(

    • Armane

When was it coming to PC?

      • DarthSithZero

It was planned to be released also on PC

        • Armane

But it wasn’t and still hasn’t been announced for PC.

          • Ferrick

it was announced for pc release back when it was rising, but canceled when it became revengeance

        • DesmaX

PC version was cancelled when Platinum picked up the game

  • Will wait for inevitable re-release with all dlc included on disc.

    • British_Otaku

It would be nice if it happened I guess (even more so if it went to the original platforms and more like the PC and Wii U).

I don’t know Konami’s track record with DLC and making rereleases, but with Bethesda RPGs (though the initial games are very meaty) and a lot of Capcom titles you can expect it.

      • Solomon_Kano

Konami isn’t big on re-releases. They completely forwent it on MGS4, and that series always has re-releases with added content. They also forwent this on Lords of Shadow, which people also said would inevitably see a re-release with all DLC. Capcom’s the only JP publisher who really does those consistently. Namdai, Konami, and Nintendo are the other big ones and they aren’t really in the practice. Tecmo Koei, however, is.
