By Ishaan . February 4, 2013 . 1:00pm

Update: According to Konami, the VR Missions are PS3-exclusive only in North America. In Latin America and Europe, the DLC will be available for the Xbox 360 as well.

Konami have revealed a little more information on the Metal Gear Rising VR Missions DLC via the PS Blog.

The VR Missions DLC in Rising will consist of 30 missions featuring a virtual-reality look inspired by the original Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions. The missions will be set in original stages that aren’t in the main game and will also allow you to control the Dwarf Gekko.

Konami haven’t announced a price for the VR Missions yet. In North America alone, these missions will be exclusive to the PlayStation 3.

so we getting a UFO fight then?

  • Please report on this correctly, it’s only Exclusive for PS3 in the US, every other terrority it’s not.

Edit: A downvote? Really? I guess europeans should believe it’s exclusive everywhere with the way siliconera is reporting it…

    • Zal_Yagun

so does that mean its a timed exclusive?

      • No idea, it could be but there is no mention of that.

      • I hope it is, I don’t want my friends from Europe to get pissed over lack of VR mission.

    • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

I think you’re incorrect. The DLC is exclusive to PS3 in both NA and JPN. The game is only going to be released for PS3 in JPN, while all other territories have a PS3 and X360 release.

        Yeah…I’m not wrong.

        • Maybe, but there isn’t much need to mention Japan. Main game not released on Xbox 360 heavily implies the DLC won’t be either.

          • No it does need to be mentioned, because people in japan will have access to the 360 version via other means (importing), mentioning it’s not exclusive means they can download the DLC with their Japanese xbl accounts just fine.

Why is Japan getting the DLC on the Xbox? That version of the game of shelved there……

    • neogeno

I imagine its to promote more sales for the XBox in general. Its not doing to hot over there.

      • Bloodios

Actually, the Japanese Xbox 360 owners aren’t getting the DLC, because like Dark Souls, the game itself is exclusive to the PS3 in Japan.

    • ZEROthefirst

It’s not, MGR is only being released for the PS3 in Japan, the 360 there is pretty much a dead console.

      • Robert Hendrie

thanks tips, they had Japan included in the list of places getting the dlc

  • Pythia Brixham

I preordered the game on PS3, so this does not affect me as much, but is there a reason the DLC is PS3 exclusive in NA?

    • Probably a deal with Sony, given that it was announced via the PS Blog.

  • wez

Itl probably be timed most platinum games work better on 360. If not ill get ps3 version later as well when cheaper since already ordered collectors on 360.

    • Bloodios

Most of Platinum Games’ titles (aside from exclusives) post-Bayonetta work either identical to or marginally better on the PS3 though.

      • wez

Rising, while has more screen tearing on 360, has better post processing, better hair, and better frame rate on 360 as well. Just google it.

  • Aoshi00

Don’t like these console specific dlc, first Benedict Arnold for AC3, now this.. Oh well i’m getting the regular us ver on 360 but would be getting LE for the Jpn PS3 ver… really wonder how cool the lava lamp would look…

  • idrawrobots

Oh well. I’m sticking with the 360 version.

  • Awesome!!!

  • Antonio C. R. Murray

No surprise. Metal Gear is a part of PlayStation DNA, not a wannabe one. If anyone hasn’t notice by now, really though. the ones not feelin this are former PS2 owners that went Xbox and thought that post ’08, everything should come along with it. All this ubiquity nonsense. Only and ONLY one platform is ubiquitous and that’s the PC.

  • Göran Isacson

Makes me wonder why… did Sony pay extra for exclusivity? Or is it some kind of programming malarky behind it all?

  • Dago

Anybody knows if México is included in this as parth of Norh America?

  • Quinton Cunningham

I distinctly remember a portion of the Siliconera comments saying they would boycott any games that do exclusive and/or preorder DLC whenever a ceraint other game had its preorder bonuses announced. Wonder if they’re gonna stay true to their word with THIS game.

  • ZEROthefirst

While I don’t have a 360 and have no intentions of owning one (except to play Tales of Vesperia in English someday) I don’t really get why the VR missions are PS3 exclusives in the U.S. I get why it’s PS3 exclusive in Japan, since MGR is not even getting a 360 release, but it doesn’t really make sense. Maybe they’ll release it sometime in the future and if not… oh well.

  • Mister_Nep

That’s a weird thing to do, but, well, VR missions aren’t exactly going to be the life blood of the game. So whatever. FYI, I’ve had the PS3 version pre-ordered for a while now.

    • This game is a hack’n slash, not a normal metal gear solid. In vr missions the only thing you do is kill stuff in different ways, so technically speaking each vr mission is like the demo from this game, and taking that into account it means a lot of replay value per mission.

Now make numbers, they aren’t the “life blood” but im pretty much sure they will give hundreds of hours of gameplay (of course if you like the genre)

  • Is there a reason my comment was deleted? I don’t think I said anything bad… Just comparing the what i think the benefits of the 360 version versus the ps3 version.

  • Tom

My question is why do we need to have VR missions as a DLC!? To cash in more on us? There wasn’t enough space on the Bluray disk!? Someone should explain this to us. For a game that’s about to be release already has a DLC. It’s not like the game is out for a year and the developers were working on something to add to the game and keep the fans entertained. I hate the system of DLCs….

    • There is vr missions in the game, and if im not mistaken there is a lot for what some guy said in a spanish preview. This are extra.
But yes, probably you are right, maybe its some business stuff or something.
