Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix Credits Show Cutscenes From KH2 And More

By Ishaan . March 14, 2013 . 9:00am

Japanese gamers have found that the credits for Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix contains cutscenes from three other games in the series—Kingdom Hearts 2, Birth by Sleep, and coded. The information, reported by several sources in Japan, was confirmed by KHInsider.

The games shown in the credits are, in a way, comparable to those included in Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix. One numbered game (Kingdom Hearts 2), one relatively important spin-off game (Birth by Sleep) and one less important spin-off game (Coded, although, perhaps like in the case of 358/2 Days, Square will only include cutscenes).

Is this a hint at the contents of a potential Kingdom Hearts 2 HD compilation? W know one is probably on the way.

    SHOCKER! /s

So I guess we can expect a reveal of 2.5 at TGS this year?

  • Kenny Loh

*jumping like a crazy fan* Thanks, first Drag Of Dragoon 3 and now KH HD 2.5 remix, thanks you so much Square-Enix :D

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/Kevassa02 kevassa

This is amazing news! I really hope that Re:Coded is more than HD Cutscenes, though… Unlike Days it had actually tons of fun gameplay (I’m still playing it and it’s pretty darn fun)

  • cameron forsyth

well if they are going to make birth by sleep into a cutscene format is it possible that birth by sleep volume 2 is actually a series of new cutscenes?

    edit: irrelevant kevin.

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/Kevassa02 kevassa

Probably BBS will get the HD remake treatment while Re:Coded gets the HD Cutscene treatment.

      • Leon_Tekashi

Do remember that Nomura didn’t have enough time to turn 358/2 days into a game so there’s some hope for Re:coded to be a game with BBS and of course 2.

        • http://www.youtube.com/user/Kevassa02 kevassa

          I really hope that’s the case ;D
I mean Re:Coded uses tons of different gameplay mechanics that are very fun and shouldn’t be ignored.
On the other hand they’d have to remake the game from the ground… Which would cost a lot of money…
Still a man can hope, yes? :)

  • XYZ_JolteonZ980

Amazing news if we can get Kingdom Hearts HD 2 or whatever, having access to all major KH games on one system is literally a dream come true and perfect way to be ready for Kingdom Hearts 3.

    • Armane

KH3 will probably be on the PS4 though, so you’ll have to wait for PS3 Classics to start showing up on the PS4 to have them all on one system again.

      • Kenny Loh

It still a little possible it will still in PS3, not much, or maybe PS3 and PS4 both systems, because Drag On Dragoon 3 is release in PS3 and just annouced in like 2 or 3 days ago so PS3 still having it lifespan.

      • Solomon_Kano

Not necessarily. If Nomura let’s Osaka have KH3, it’s unlikely to be for PS4. If Tokyo’s handling it then, yea, it’ll be for PS4.

        • Armane

I don’t think they would call it KH3 if that were to happen.

          • Solomon_Kano

If Osaka were to make it? I don’t see how that would affect its numbering.

          • Armane

I mean if Nomura wasn’t directing it.

          • Solomon_Kano

Oh. Well, that’s why I said if he let’s them have 3. Nomura’s promised a KH a year, but he also said they won’t keep doing these side games. Well, 2.5 buys them 2014 before they’re out of stuff to port and he won’t be able to finish Versus and get KH3 out by 2015. So he either keeps us waiting or he lets Osaka have it.

Actually, he directed BBS and 3D with Osaka developing anyway. No reason he can’t do the same for KH3

  • Tenshiken

    -Kingdom Hearts 3, soon after?

    • LynxAmali

      Soon. Or. Otherwise. Never?

      • Ali

        LOL! At this rate……

    • Beta

My guess is: (If they continue with the same drift)
      Spring 2013 (Q1): KH1.5 release in Japan
Fall 2013 (Q3): KH1.5 release internationally (confirmed, btw)
Fall 2013(Q3): KH2.5 announcement in Japan
      Spring 2014 (Q1): KH2.5 release in Japan
      Fall 2014 (Q3): KH2.5 release internationally
      Fall 2014 (Q3): KHIII announcement
Spring 2015 (Q1): KHIII release in Japan
Fall 2015 (Q3): KHIII release internationally
      And that’s being optimistic -_-

  • Solomon_Kano

One numbered game (Kingdom Hearts 2), one spin-off game (Birth by Sleep) and one portable spin-off game (Coded)

Huh? Both Birth by Sleep and Re:Coded are “portable spin-offs”. Re:Coded and KH2FM are analogous to games in 1.5, but BBS really isn’t.

    • http://www.siliconera.com/ Ishaan

I should have worded that better. BBS, like CoM, is a spin-off, but a relatively important one. Coded, on the other hand, really isn’t,

      • Solomon_Kano

Gotcha. I hate to bother you with semantics lol, but “relatively important” is still something of a misnomer. At least, in the sense that if one were to jump into KH3 without BBS they’d be lost as it and 3D are equal to KH and KH2 in importance. For all intents and purposes, it’s KH0.

        • http://www.siliconera.com/ Ishaan

Oh, of course. Just that it’s hard to decide what counts as a spin-off and what counts as a “main” game. I mean, if it were up to Square, they’d say they’re all important. :P

          • Solomon_Kano

True haha. I’m sure they’ll tell people that for KHX. Gotta get people in somehow!

          • David García Abril

Well, that’s because they are ALL important!

Seriously, why people insist on saying that the handheld “Kingdom Hearts” games are “spin-offs” when every single one of them are important to the plot.

I kinda can see it for “Days”, and even then it would be debatable. I haven’t played “Coded” yet, but this trend of misnaming the entries comes from way before that game.

But “Birth by Sleep” and “Chain of Memories”? No way!

“Birth by Sleep” is “Kingdom Hearts 0″, like Solomon_kano says. And the reason why so many people can’t understand a lot of things from KH2, specially at the beginning, is because those didn’t played “Chain of Memories”, which story-wise was a full-blown sequel of KH1.

No one says that handheld Zelda games are spin-offs, for example. Why the KH series is treated differently in this respect?

          • Ehren Rivers

To be perfectly honest, it’s because Square Enix made the unfortunate mistake of naming Kingdom Hearts II/2 with a number in it. This makes people look at the games from the vantage point of a numbered series and causes them to disregard other games as spin-offs. They assume that it’s like comparing Disgaea 1-4 with Prinny: Can I Really Be The Hero? This is, of course, incredibly incorrect.

None of the Kingdom Hearts games are spinoffs, and all of them are crucially important to the understanding of the story with the possible exception of Coded. Even Coded has its necessary bits, though; The reveal that Maleficent definitely survived the end of KH2, finding out that Naminé hid a healthy amount of important information in Jiminy’s Journal, and leading to Mickey realizing that Sora can save Aqua and the others from Birth By Sleep.

It’s possible to go into DDD without having played Coded though, and still understand pretty much everything going on. Birth by Sleep and Chain of Memories pretty much have to be played though, or you end up lost for major parts of the game’s overarching plot. Hopefully DDD will become the standard and there will be a brief explanation for each of the previous games, but still…

          • Farid Belkacemi

            There’s only one spin-off IMO : Coded.

  • Zonic505

Replaying KH2 in HD with the added bonus of finally trying out Birth By Sleep? Heck yeah, I’d buy that.

  • ivanchu77

I´m tired of remakes and spin-offs.

    Kingdom Hearts 3 when?

    • GODDUKEMONEXA

      after VERSUS XIII

  • Wenzel

Just one correction,”….one spin-off game (Birth by Sleep) and one portable spin-off game (Coded, although, perhaps like in the case of 358/2 Days, Square will only include cutscenes)”

They´re NOT spin-off games, are CANON games.

    • http://www.siliconera.com/ Ishaan

By “spin-off” one means that they aren’t numbered titles.

      • Wenzel

Well…some people think Spin-off= not important

        thanks, for the reply!

PD: you should consider change it

    • Solomon_Kano

Spin-off and canon aren’t mutually exclusive terms though. Advent Children is canon to Final Fantasy VII but, as a movie based on the original work, it’s also a spin-off. Metal Gear Rising is a spin-off of MGS. It’s also canon to MGS4.

With Kingdom Hearts the term spin-off is kinda hard to apply. While there are some who would call any game in a series without a number a spin-off or games released on a different platform from the “main games” a spin-off, with KH people use the term for the “less important” handheld titles. I can see why one might say as much for Coded or 358/2, but games like BBS and 3D are equal in importance to KH 1 and 2 despite their handheld status.

      tl;dr Spin-off doesn’t mean non-canon and it’s a hard term to apply to KH’s portable titles.

      • http://wiredjungle.wordpress.com/ DrakosAmatras

Maybe “side-stories”? I haven’t played any Kingdom Hearts game though, so I don’t know which games are canon or not.

        • Solomon_Kano

I guess the issue is that there isn’t a catch-all term for the non-numbered KH games.

Side story would be half right talking about BBS, for instance, as it’s not about Sora and co. At the same time, it IS vitally important to KH3D (effectively KH3 in everything but name) while also explaining elements of the other numbered games. On the other hand, Re:Coded is more Mickey’s story, so that’s a definite side story.

So it’s just hard to classify them all in a particular way. No catch-all.

          • SirTeffy

I disagree – 3D is not 3 in all but name, as it advances the plot about as much as Coded does – very, very little. All that happens is Riku passes the Mark of Mastery, we find out that there’s a new Organization made of Xehanorts through time travel (which will inevitably get re-revealed in KH3, like CoM getting briefly rehashed in KH2), and Sora is nearly tempted into darkness. That’s it. Everything else is recaps.

          • Göran Isacson

I do wonder about the “re-reveal”. After all, wasn’t the whole point of that time-travel ordeal that it could only be done once, and when Axel, Donald and Goofy interrupted them the time-travelling versions of the organization were returned to their own timelines? Hence, they will not be used in future titles?

          • SunOatBoatMatadorQuattro

According to Nomura the objective of 3D was developing Riku. Sora was added as a playable character since he was very popular

      • Wenzel

        Exactly

      • http://www.youtube.com/Lyonharvestmoonfan Eduardo Rocha

  • Anime10121

Cant wait to do the Final Episode of BBS in HD! One of the most epic (although extremely predictable) fights in the series :D

Also, DATA BATTLES in English :D

  • LightZero

It’s going as I predicted. KH2.5 will contain KH2FM, BbSFM, and cutscenes of Re:Coded and it will be announce at this year TGS.

  • Pin Master

Dude Birth by Sleep is a main game not a side-story idiot. And 358/2 Days does play important in the Kingdom Hearts series instead of Re:coded.

Yes it is, but it is pretty obvious.

    • http://gamgambit.tumblr.com/ Thespian Treasure Hunter ♢

It was obvious to speculate a 2.5 was coming.
Chill down, there’s no release date to this and it’s still rumor, by then maybe FFXHD will get an announcement.

  • YoshEE

if they gonna have Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX or whatever they gonna call it. Hopefully they will have KH2 final remix on it. >:3

  • HerosLight

I really do hope they make KH2.5 with both Final Mixes of KH2 and BBS.

BBS was originally going to be a PS2 game when development started, so why not include it?

Just like that linked article at the end says “It would be unusual if it didn’t release”

    Re:Coded over Drop Dream Distance?

    • Leon_Tekashi

DDD is still pretty new so that might be the case.

      • Elvick

Plus, there’s still probably a long time before we get KH3. So, there will be plenty of time to port it in the future, while still letting the 3DS version sell.

  • Sam Park

There already previewing 2.5? I mean they said they are making it but i didn’t know they would preview it already

  • Sam Park

However if they are previewing 2.5, then i am most likely buying that game, i mean i would love an HD Rendition of KH2 and KHBBS

  • FFmax

I would love to play BBS on the big screen, and will we have capes with their armor this time?

    • Leon_Tekashi

I guess they removed it in the PSP version due to limitations or something?

      • FFmax

Yeah I heard it caused the game to lag. They couldn’t render the fabric properly.

    • Göran Isacson

Oooh, that’s a good question. Though I wonder if they will bother going to those lengths…

  • Steven Higgins

These are the games I was expecting to be in the next HD collection. Never expected DDD to be there in the first place because the console it’s on is still current while the systems all previous titles were released on have been replaced by their successors.

  • Alexander Aubert

    no KH 3D?

    • SunOatBoatMatadorQuattro

It was released last year. I believe Nomura doesn’t want to rerelease it so early or porting a game from the 3DS to the PS3 brings several difficulties.

      • Solomon_Kano

Probably not much difficulty in porting from a technical standpoint. I mean, Capcom got Revelations on PS3 at no time at all (to be fair though, it runs on MT Framework which they also use on consoles). Time being less a factor, I’d imagine the hold up in that case would’ve been adapting the 3DS specific gameplay elements. They’d have to rework or remove Flick Rush, there’d be no AR element, the touchscreen’s use in certain elements would have to be reassigned or those elements would have to be cut. It would’ve been a lot more work than the rest of the compilation’s games if they ported it. So, yea, definitely would’ve been difficulties.

That said, it was most likely just too soon even if they weren’t concerned with the above. If it was just a matter of porting being difficult, then they could do a movie for that one as well.

  • sonicgamer07

The concept of Birth By Sleep on PS3 makes me wonder… Would they turn multiplayer Mirage Arena into online multiplayer over PSN or will they take it out?

  • SunOatBoatMatadorQuattro

I hope Birth by Sleep HD will lose those long loading times. I think that KH2 has the best Final Mix since it allows you to fight Godtier Terra and all the Organization members who brought a lot of variety. It also gave a harder difficulty since players complained it was too easy in comparison to KH1.

  • maggosh

For the last smegging time…there are NO spin-off games.

  • noctis_nox

KH3 for the PS3 confirmed! lol

  • Göran Isacson

Huh. I wonder how long it will take for them to develop 2.5 HD if they’ve already updated some of the cutscenes.

  • TheExile285

They should finish FFX HD before they start on this…. and they should also make a Vita version

  • Xekyo

I cry a little inside knowing this hasn’t been released in the US yet. T_T I’m gonna go sleep now. Wake me up when it comes out.

  • Swaggermuffin

Dat TwitchTV screenshot. When was KH1.5 being streamed?

  • David Angle

Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep is not a “spin-off” as it is very important to the future that lies ahead. It is only considered a “spin-off” to those who have not truly played this title. Just like those who played II and did not play Chain of Memories. You can either be smart or you can be dumb on this but, Kingdom Hearts BBS IS IN FACT Kingdom Hearts 0. Kingdom Hearts 1 is KH 1, Chain of Memories is 2, 358/2 Days is 3, Kingdom Hearts 2 is 4, Kingdom Hearts re:coded 5, and Kingdom Hearts: 3D is 6 and Kingdom Hearts 3 will be 7.

By the way Birth By Sleep was the secret movie at the end of KH II so in all respects it’s indeed extremely important to the story and only a handheld cast-off to those who are ignorant.
