White Knight Chronicles And White Knight Chronicles II Going Offline In June

By Spencer . March 24, 2013 . 3:00pm

White_Knight_Chronicles_2 Sony Computer Entertainment America is pulling the plug on the White Knight Chronicles servers for North America. The news came with a terse statement that online service will be terminated on June 18. D3Publisher, the company that brought White Knight Chronicles II to North America, said that their game will go offline on June 18 too.

White Knight Chronicles and the sequel White Knight Chronicles II have a single player story to play through, but the MMORPG-lite online mode is a key part of the series. The Georama system their own town friends can visit and meet at before taking on quests.

Thanks to everyone who sent in this tip!

  • R.I.P. White Kinght Chronicles, R.I.P.

  • TurtleOmlette

    Wasted Potential: The Game

    • Richard N

Lol, true in so many ways.

    • Neophoton

      So true…

  • Draparde

i hope that one day a third game comes out in this series.
it was pretty fun to play online with friends.

    • Luis Camargo

They had a PSP game that never came out in NA. Unfortuantelly, chances of seeing a WKC3 now are slim.

      • Pombar

The PSP game came out in Europe and the UK version works on US PSPs just fine.

      • Draparde

yeah, i prefered the scale of the first 2, Origins seemed to be lacking to me, probably because of the limitations of the psp as far as how big areas could be, ect. (except maybe the transformations, though i prefered the custom mecha-like knights) it *is* my only choice however XD… do you know if it’s on the European PSN? or is it physical only?

and yeah :/ probably wont see a WKC3, the best i can hope for is another RPG from them that has a similar online portion.

  • Ceci “Ruzuzu” Kiyomizu

I used to play this game like crazy and I wanted to get back into it with my friends.

  • Solomon_Kano

This makes me so sad since I’d been holding off on getting the games. Now I’ll never get to experience their online. :(

    • ShadowDivz

Still some time left bro. Go for it.

    • No9

Sameeeee I need to get this game soon :( Damn school!!!

    • Raltrios

Yeah, if I had a PS3 I’d have picked these up. No point now…

      • James Howard

Well it’s still good, and hopefully there maybe, people who’ll pick up the server…

  • Spirit Macardi

Thanks, first you screw us out of the DLC then you screw us out of the games entirely.

  • Its also damn near impossible to get the platnum for it now, since some of the bosses need GR 24 weapons, and some requests are locked until you build a georama.

    • $36598391

I played through WKC1 and only got 5% of the trophies

  • Riseabovethesky

I never played White Knight Chronicles 1 or 2 because of the reviews but maybe I should give it a try since it seems hard to believe that the developer of the amazing Dark Cloud 2 could miss the mark completely.

    • Xerain

That considered, it’s kinda shocking really. It’s one of those plots where the good guys just stand around watching the bad guys do whatever before shouting “I’ll never let you get away with this!” and letting them get away. That being said, it’s so bad it’s fun to watch.

But that just makes the news so much worse: The online is what it is really all about.

      • Spirit Macardi

At least the story has Crispin Freeman playing the main villain, who absolutely hams it up using his Alucard voice~

      • Riseabovethesky

The ”good guys just stand around watching the bad guys do whatever” reminds me of a lot of Japanese video games/anime/manga. Those kind of situations made me so frustrated when I was a kid, I was like: ”Come on! Stop talking and DO something! I don’t care about your stupid feelings you just explained already 5 minutes ago!”.

      • puchinri

I feel like all of their plot-work went into the gameplay and characters actually.

        The plot is so bad about that, it almost felt intentional at times. x’D;

  • Spectacularity

I gave up on this game anyways >~<

    • Brion Valkerion

Same here haha, its just soooooo long winded.

Wow, I never got a chance to play WK2 online because I was putting it off. I played the crap out of the first one and enjoyed it, and had heard the second one was an improvement online, but the single player felt tedious to me, so I hadn’t made it a priority. Looks like that won’t be happening now.

I know this probably won’t happen, but I would REALLY like to see some kind of update or patch that enhances the single player game, or at least the offline portion of it, to compensate for the servers going down.

I hate how these days you can play a game, get your fill of it and put it aside, but when you go back a few years later to do it again, find that you can no longer get the same fulfillment out of it because too much of it was tied up into online-only features and content (though WK2 was much better about this than most games, I have to say).

  • badmoogle

Am i the only one that found the online system of the first WKC a bit complicated?I don’t know maybe they didn’t explained it very well but i just couldn’t understand how the georama worked…eventually i gave up on it.

    • Juan Andrés Valencia

It’s overcomplicated to say the least.

  • I would’ve played more if the GR levels weren’t so difficult to get

  • Göran Isacson

Is the multiplayer part like SUPERIMPORTANT to the game over all, or can you play the single player part and get the whole story and be satisfied anyhow?

    • Brandonmkii

I only played the first game, but online play was just quests and stuff, no story related stuff. That was all single player.

    • Tien Ron

after you finish the game you would want to play mutiplayer it was the bigger aspect of the game

    • you can play the single player part, which is 2/3 of the whole story….
the other 1/3 is an important additional content: The Avatar Story..
      yet NA/EU didn’t received the update…
and also defeating Madoras at Vellgander Tower, you need to be well-geared and have a good party to play with… so multiplayer plays an important role in the game and in the whole WKC story…

      • Göran Isacson

When you say “the update”, what does that refer to? Was there an update with the story, or just a patch that fixed some problems?

    • Farid Belkacemi

Single player all the way, online is “just” an option and they didn’t deliver on that front.

  • NightzeroAX

Wow I had some money saved up to buy some games. Oh well I was really interested in this games online play.

  • “to be continued….”
yet NA/EU players didn’t have a chance to get/play the Avatar Story… an important additional content of the game!

    • Christopher Nunes

They NEVER released the Avatar Stories?! o_0

      • Ferrick

        nope, never

        • Christopher Nunes

I was looking forward to those Quests! My Avatar needs his story!

          • Ferrick

            if only i knew m8, if only i knew…

          • Elvick

            Because D3 Publisher sucks.

    • Farid Belkacemi

What is the Avatar Story ? Don’t tell me it’s a DLC that takes place after WKC 2 ending…

  • OverlordZetta

Well I’m never going to have to get these now.

  • Masa

online mode was terrible, just grinding for hours on end for most items that had a 3% drop rate.Game had so much promise but just failed on so many levels.

    • Elvick

Online wasn’t terrible. It was great.

I played the online, to you know, play the game… online. Not to grind and farm. Too much hassle for me.

EVERY game turns terrible when you’re farming and grinding. No one forced you to do that. I know GR levels prevented some quests from being played… but I had enough without grinding to enjoy just playing the game online.

  • The Watcher

    making room for that final.

  • LynxAmali

    That’s….kind of a shame.
I was planning on picking these up.

It sort of kills it for me.

    • Farid Belkacemi

Why ? The online part isn’t that good to be honest.

      • LynxAmali

It’s a pretty large part of the game from what I understand.

        • Farid Belkacemi

The offline part is more enjoyable IMO.

I think the best thing to do here is to buy it now so you can taste the “full” experience :D

    • Ixbran

You still should, its a very fun game with a wonderful offline story mode. The online mode was more or less optional, and even when you did play online none of them used Mics. The WKC Online players had this weird unspoken rule to never use Mic chat when out in the field, they only ever used mics in towns and as soon as you got into actual gameplay, they would mute their mics and not communicate at all. Which kinda takes away the whole reason for playing online with other people. One of the reasons I stopped playing online and only stuck with offline.

also dont bother getting the first game. Both WKC and WKCII are included on the second games disk.

  • Juan Andrés Valencia

I got the first one a few days ago and the online mode is fairly empty. It’s a shame since it seemed to be the best part of the game.

  • Yuriangels

so i know now that i am not getting this game but have to know, how the gameplay?

    • Romangelo

      FF12 clone.

  • samjosiah

Why? If it’s because of a small online player amount, that’s silly. When you have consistent people playing the game just keep it online. Easy, doesn’t hurt anything.

  • Cameron Ward

eh i didnt miss anything. both games were pretty terrible in the sense that there WAS something there, but poor design choices and glitches kept me from really going out and buying the game.

  • Christopher Nunes

Wow… it feels so soon for them to pull the plug on the Online Mode of this game.

Granted some of the harder quests you need an excellent party and I don’t think Leonard and the gang would provide a lot of help on some quests and some you can’t bring them I believe. Even going soloing is bad enough… it would be great if it had a similar system to Dragon’s Dogma where you can recruit your friends’ Avatar to join you on your quests as AI party members.

There are also many other things too on Online, even though if can be done Offline, and I would love to get the help on some of it but sadly I’ve been kinda busy so I haven’t played WKC2 in a while.

By the way did the Japanese version go Offline too?

  • Romangelo

    Damn… I still didn’t finished this series.
    Is there any online trophies?

  • Elvick

    So lame.

  • zero254

Glad I stopped with the first game to be honest.

I could not take anymore of the offline hitscan and content missing from the us version.
