Urakata Hakuouki Is About Revenge And Looking To Change Tomorrow

By Sato . April 12, 2013 . 3:30pm

Idea Factory have updated their website with an introduction to Urakata Hakuouki’s story, where you’ll be playing as a young girl seeking to avenge her brother’s death at the hands of the Shinsengumi. Early story details are vague, but you can read on if interested.

Late Tokugawa period, third year of the Bunkyū. It’s an era full of disturbances, and the world of the Tokugawa shogunate government is reaching its end, while another story begins at the capital of Kyoto.

A suspicious figure with white hair and a light yellow haori sneaks into the dojo of the protagonist’s brother. The identity of this mysterious figure is an evil of the Shinsengumi.

Since then, this young girl has decided to learn the ways of the sword in order to avenge her older brother who sacrificed himself in order to protect her. This resolution would lead to a new age of hardships.

A group of men who live through the age of chaos appear in front of the girl. As she follows and looks at the back of these men who live strongly, what could she be yearning for? This is the story of a young girl who has been entangled in the age of chaos and confusion, along with this group of men who wish to start a new era.

You can read more about Urakata Hakuouki characters such as the charismatic Takasugi Shinsaku or the devoted killer, Okada Izou, in our previous report.

Urakata Hakuouki is slated to be released on May 30th for PSP. Idea Factory will also release a limited edition for 8,190 yen.

meh, another game NA won’t be getting…

    • Akuosa

I don’t know about that, the two previous Hakuouki games have been released in NA…

      • $36598391

True, forgot about them, I just hope it gets a retail release, though I am a bit surprised it’s coming out on PSP instead of vita

        • MrSirFeatherFang

I’m not sure how you are surprised this is coming out for the PSP. The PSP still has a lot of support in Japan. I mean just look at all the games coming out for it.

          • $36598391

I know it does but the PSVITA is getting plenty of support over there too
I’m not saying it’s a bad thing that this is on PSP, It’s just that the rest of the world is getting screwed out of so many good games like
Sword Art Online PSP because the psp is being killed off outside Japan
In other words these companies aren’t considering the fact that people outside Japan may want to play them

          • LynxAmali

The SAO game is kinda bad to be honest. The only real good thing about is the totally-not-a-Date-sim part of it.

-In other words these companies aren’t considering the fact that people outside Japan may want to play them.

Because that’s not their audience? These are Japanese companies first and foremost so they need to cater to that audience first and foremost.

          • $36598391

I would enjoy it because I really liked the anime
also the PSP isn’t going to last forever, even in Japan, it will end up having the same fate it has here but at least they have the umd to digital conversion thing

  • I so want this game. <3

I'm hoping for an overseas release, though. Please. :3

  • rebecasunao

Ahhhh want! <3 the girl's design is so nice!

  • Suicunesol

So this is a new set of guys?

Some of them look really similar to the previous set…

    • JustThisOne

I’m gonna assume there’s some overlap.

  • Sardorim

    One girl… Lots of Bishie’s.

The shippers are going to love this. Whether it’s shipping for her or shipping the guys together.

    • I’m gonna ship the girl =P

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Aksys. I know you know what to do here.^_^

    • Yes. That would be lovely!

  • brandon

Hmm. Judging from the part about the group of men “who wish to start a new era”, I would assume this game is set during the final years of shogunate rule in japan (either before or during the boshin war).

    • doubleO7

I’m not brushed up on my Japanese history. Would that mean its set before or after the other Hakuoki games?

      • revenent hell

I think it would be towards the end of the original game since that was when things began changing, era wise, so I would say end of or directly after.

        • brandon

That would seem right. So if I had to guess a year, it would probably be 1870. And in terms of the Hakuoki games, that would place this in-between Shinsengumi kitan and Zuisoroku…I think. I’m not a big fan of the games but this did catch my attention so I had to go and research it.

  • revenent hell

I want to see this localized por favor?

  • d19xx

Btw how was the musou game? I’m planning on picking it up and does it work on the Vita and install size?

    • Not -that- great, but still a good game I guess. I liked the anime, so naturally, I’m going to buy every games based on it. :3

    • brian

Common opinion seems to be that it was easy probably to accommodate people new to action games, and like most musou games, low emphasis on plot.

  • @SuigetsuHiramura:disqus Hakuoki alert!

    • Sweet Sui ♥

The “mentioning” thing with Disqus doesn’t really do anything anymore, buuttt my Hakuoki senses brought me here anyways~ :3 LOL

  • The heroine looks more beautiful and badass than hakuoki. Need THIS

    • Sweet Sui ♥

As much as I like Chizuru, I find this new heroine to be really appealing as well~ ^w^ She looks like she can stand on her own two feet on top of having a pretty face… I like that :3

      • Yeah, I agree with you. I really hope those swords aren’t just for show. Anyway I hope Aksys will pick this one up XD

  • I’m liking the main character. Since I am a Hakuouki fan I shall be buying this one too if it’s localized.

  • Sweet Sui ♥

This looks and sounds really great so far~ ^w^ If this game were to be localized, it would be an instant buy for me being the crazy Hakuoki fan I am ^_^” Please, Aksys, I’m begging ya to let me spend my money~ :3

On another note, Okada Izou kinda reminds me of both Okita and Saito- my first and second favorite characters respectively from the original Hakuouki. I think he’d be the one I’d go for here… *w* lol.

    • Haunting Horror

He is Okita’s rival/enemy. :p But hey, at least in his route you would see Okita, eh? XD Though you may see him hurt Okita, still it’s worth it to see him, right? XD

  • Haunting Horror

The arts not all that great looking to me and it really just pales in comparison to Yone’s wonderful art. The only ones I’m interested in is Glover and Katsura (because he’s in the musou game otherwise I doubt I would).

Wait. That’s half. Not used to just 4 guys in these games. lol

From what I hear of the girl, I don’t really care for her. Not really big on the whole revenge theme anyways. Kinda cliche too. Also, I loved Chizuru (she’s one of my fave female charas) and she seems to be the opposite…

And no mention of the demons or anything to do with them (besides furies). One of the reasons I love Hakuouki is the demons. Seriously where would Hakuouki’s story be without them? Totally different for sure.

Not excited about this title (in fact I kinda tend to forget about it until I see some new article on it XD). Yet anyways, it could change when more of the story is released. Hope so.

  • Guest

More otome games to look forward to. Gonna list this after buying OzMafia!! and Norn9. Waiting for Aksys to do their action again~

  • Lisa Fraulein

Yes!!!! And after some time, I hope it shall be animated XDXD

  • I hope Aksys bring this one over.
