Arc System Works’ Upcoming Title, XBlaze, Will Be a Visual Novel Game

By Sato . April 16, 2013 . 10:00pm

Last year we reported on an “Adventure Project” called XBlaze developed by Arc System Works, known for fighters such as Guilty Gear and BlazBlue. Their upcoming game won’t be part of their familiar territory, as Famitsu revealed it to be a visual novel game.

Here’s a brief introduction to Xblaze’s story: The main character, Touya Kagari, noticed a jingling sound coming from somewhere. As he followed the sound of the jingle, it led him to what seemed to be a gravely injured man, who was yelling at the top of his lungs. Before he knew it, this man began to assault him in a rage-induced manner.

Without even a moment to acknowledge the situation he was in, Kagari felt as if it was all over, until a sword-wielding young girl changed his fate.

Kagari is a second year student of class B. He has a very curious and gentle personality and goes out of his way to resolve any fights around him. He currently resides with the Himezuru family and works at a curry shop as a part-time job.

Kuon, Hinata and Hokosakamei

This week’s Famitsu issue also introduced other characters such the mysterious young girl, Es, who is Kagari’s classmate and happens to be the girl that saved Kagari, as well as Hinata Himezuru, a calm and house-chore loving second daughter of the Himezuru family, who is also Kagiri’s classmate. The long-haired Kuon Glamred Schtolheim and Amano Hokosakamei were also shown in this week’s magazine.

Arc System Works’ XBlaze is slated to be released on July 25 for PlayStation 3 and Vita.

While it sounds cool, this also means we won’t get it over here :(

Not with Aksys going on that VN localization phase. They tight with ArcSys. I wouldn’t say it’s impossible…

      • Reki Honoo

I would say it’s a major possibility. For the most part, arc systems work localizes there titles, so it is quite possible we might get this one.

    • As already stated, Aksys could quite possibly localize this, so don’t write it off just yet. Don’t get too hyped either, but it’s always a possibility for this one due to Arc System and Aksys’ relationship.

    Needs more Guilty Gear.

We need a new FIGHTING GG sequel not more updates.

    • Acc to the description, I assume the green girl is Hinata and her personality is nothing like Chie.

      • Hraesvelgr

But she has a green coat on and has short brown hair! RIP OFF!

  • Crevox

I saw “visual novel” instead of “fighting game”

    Immediately, all interest was lost

    • Hraesvelgr

But visual novels can be good, just like anything else.

      • Oscar Alberto Abrego Suarez

Not if gameplay is your main hook.

        • Crevox

          This. :)

    • MyBodyIsReady

      Your loss

  • Aristides

ok I think I’ll only have to sacrifice a pigeon for this one, hrmmm perhaps a canary? Anyway both Ark and Aksys are motivated in localizing their stuff.

  • darkbartz

It looks like it will totally get a fighting game spin-off. Come on ArcSys, you know you want to make a fighting game spin-off of this, it’s in your blood!

  • Seiba is tht you? ;P

Could be interesting. Need to see more of it.

  • Hikaru Lighthalzen

i pray to aksys so they can localize this even it seems imposibble

  • Go2hell66

damn thought this was gonna be a full on RPG

  • Anything that mentions curry gets at least some attention from me, so I’ll keep an eye out for news on the game. :P

  • Actually, a visual novel would totally be within their familiar territory considering Blazblue’s story mode. Would totally check it out if it got a localization, but it’s a VN so it won’t and I shouldn’t even waste my breath.

  • RablaAndrews

So it’s a normal Arc System Works game but without the fighting game minigame they sprinkle in along the story for some reason

  • Luke Blackwood

So, nothing to do with Blazblue eh?

Looks pretty generic. It might surprise everyone and turn out really criative, but it is now your classic “Bland High School Student is about to die, otherwordly stunning girl saves him, romance ensues” plot.

  • Neppygear

Hm, I suppose I’ll be keeping an eye on Fate/st– I mean XBlaze.

  • Göran Isacson

Aw man, I totally thought this would be a BlazBlue spinoff for some weird reason. I dunno, maybe I just read a strange rumor that it would be a spin-off and liked the idea so much I just took to it as the truth… shows me what happens when you assume too much!

Why would a developer like Aksys develop such a game?
