Capcom have shared a developer roundtable discussion for Darkstalkers, featuring the following members of staff:

  • Haruo Murata (Story and world concept)
  • Hidetoshi Ishizawa aka Neo_G (Darkstalkers 3 planner)
  • Ryota Suzuki (Vampire: Darkstalkers Collection director)

You can watch the developer roundtable above, where the three start out with a brief introduction to how they got involved with Darkstalkers and then proceed with the discussion of development.

Neo_G is brilliant. I hope he gets to work on a new Darkstalkers, but my dream project for him is a new Devil May Cry! (I liked the reaffirmation that Darkstalkers isn’t dead at the end of the video too… I’ve gotta believe, despite the cancellations!)

  • Derek E Nay

I am sure he would LOVE to work with a new Darkstalkers… But the recent Darkstalkers did not do as well as they hoped. Not to mention Capcom being so out of touch with gamers. But, I am glad at the end. It says nothing meaningful, but he could be trying to get Darkstalkers anyway he can.

The reason why Donovan was excluded from Darkstalkers 3: Donovan is too big!

A true Capcom classic. This, along with the Breath of Fire and Megaman Legends series are IP’s that not only have a very loyal fan-base. But are very good -dare I even say legendary?- games. As I watched the video. The music brought nostalgia and at the same time felt “this is so unique”. I think one of the main reasons this is not “doing” well is that they haven’t even bothered to update the graphics. They even used the same Morrigan sprite in MVC2 than the one in the original series. It’s just… wow. Capcom is really not giving this franchise (Along with Breath of Fire and Mega man Legends) the credit they deserve. And the fan-base (of all of them) will slowly wane to extinction.

Especially Breath of Fire. That series had the potential to be a really great RPG series. The mechanics of the game was just so different and unique even during the SNES era.

Camelot wanted to license the series but Capcom said no. That is just how much Capcom is failing.

Vampire Savior is one of my favorite fighting games of all time, so I think it’s very interesting to me to see some of the people who works on the series talk about the creation of it. Though I would love a new game in the series, considering the state of Capcom nowadays I’m somewhat hesitant to to believe they could do this great franchise justice the way they have in the past.
