Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection Is Split On Two Blu-Ray Discs

By Spencer . April 25, 2013 . 1:15am

Konami announced Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection for Japan and showed what’s inside the box. The compilation of Metal Gear to Metal Gear Solid 4 will be on two Blu-rays. The list of games is a little different too. Japan gets Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2 (these are MSX emulated ports inside Metal Gear Solid 3), Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid Integral, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty HD, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater HD, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (with trophy support), Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, and the two graphic novels.

What’s Metal Gear Solid Integral? It’s essentially the "international" version of Metal Gear Solid. Konami made tweaks to Metal Gear Solid for the Western release like adding multiple difficult modes, PocketStation mini-games, and first person mode. Metal Gear Solid Integral also has English voice acting with Japanese text. The game also includes 300 VR missions which were released as Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions in North America. Metal Gear Solid Integral isn’t on either disc. Konami included a code in The Legacy Collcetion to download Integral as a Game Archives title from PlayStation Network.

Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection also includes a 100 page Legacy Book. Konami will release this on July 11 for 7,980 yen ($80).

    I love you Kojima

    • Superior Spider-Man

I rike it so much! Even though I have the HD collection plus originals!

  • Hunnybear

based on its japanese pricing I would say this will be around $60. my wallet is ready.

    • Testsubject909

I’d buy it just because of the stylish packaging… Actually no, it’d be because of all the games, but the stylish packaging helps.

That and I don’t own the HD collection yet so this works out for me.

  • Vesperion

Jeez Kojima so much content i still must be in a dream……..SNAAAAAAAAKE EAAAAAAAATEEEEEEER!!!

  • As someone who’s been wanting to get into this series and was having a hard time finding the HD collection this is so perfect.

    • Pombar

The original HD Collection also included MGS1 as a digital download in Japan, but then didn’t when it came to the West – so maybe don’t get your hopes up that this will still have 1 in the West. There’s a chance, just don’t think its appearance in the Japanese version is close to a guarantee (I’d still hold off buying MGS1 on PSN until we know for sure, though)

      • anarchynina

I’m sure they’ll include it. Having the entire series in one box is the whole point of this. It’s an integral part of the collection instead of a bonus this time.

        • But it wont be all in one box, the first game will be on PSN / your hard drive.

I hear buyers of the God of War Saga aren’t having such a good time these days redeeming the PSP games voucher and I imagine the same will happen here for those that wait too long.

          • anarchynina

If i understood correctly the first game is a part of this. It’s just Integral that comes as a download.

          • Solomon_Kano

That’s correct. MGS1 is on the disc, Integral is a download.

          • Quinton Cunningham

Read the article again. Integral is the download version. The original is in the disc.

      • Solomon_Kano

They’ve already announced the US version with MGS1…

  • lozffvii

    Wow. So much content.
For someone who’s only ever watched friends play MGS games, I might seriously consider getting this if it gets released in Europe.

  • landlock

It’s a shame Twin Snakes will never be able to be in these collections.

  • Pombar

Still angry at no Portable Ops. I can play all these games (bar the DGNs) on the PS3 already! Gimme PO with great controls on my TV!

    • Just Tim

Have you noticed the games added here are canon? Portable Ops isn’t.

      • Solomon_Kano

Little acknowledgement as it sees from him, Kojima hasn’t stricken PO from the canon. Where’d you hear that?

  • Tom

Twin Snakes… My dream collection can’t be complete without Twin Snakes. But since I don’t have the HD versions either and I like art books I think I’m up for this.

  • Setsu Oh

here wondering if this collection like the others are financing a remake of mgs 1…..

    • Solomon_Kano

A remake of Metal Gear is more likely. KojiPro’s stated their interest in remaking Metal Gear before, though they said it’d probably be a while.

      • Setsu Oh

?? that is what i was talking about. did u think i was talking about mgs msx?

        • Solomon_Kano

Metal Gear is the MSX game. You said MGS1. KojiPro has said that they’d like to remake the MSX game Metal Gear, so I’m saying an MGS1 remake is less likely. Especially since Twin Snakes has already happened. Why remake MGS1 again?

          • Setsu Oh

because graphx & of course perhaps less madness in the cinemas

          • Solomon_Kano

There’s already a good-looking version of MGS1 in Twin Snakes though (with no less cutscene crazy too lol).

On the other hand, Metal Gear would have all-new visuals, gameplay advancements, story tweaks, orchestral music, and more to benefit from with all the series has added since it released. MGS1 is fine.

  • Potionzmaster

Good, now give us a Europe confirmation too, and I will be overjoyed!

    • Neppygear

      Yes, please.

  • Mithos

All of this will be re-released in another year or two, with even more included that is in this one, likely for the PS4.
Just like Sqare Enix… the ‘collectible’ remakes will keep coming back with a litttle bit more than the collectible compilation the year prior.

    You can’t stop them.

    You can’t get away.

  • Solomon_Kano

Man, that’s a pretty box. Having the whole series on two discs… yea, I’m getting this. Kojima!

Excellent timing too, since I wanted to play MGS1 and 4 again and I’ve never played MGS1’s VR missions. I hope the artbook is in the US version as well. I’m still sad about missing the artbook from the HD collection LE.

    • brian

Well it is missing Portable Ops, Metal Gear Acid 1/2, that gameboy MGS, and probably something else I’m forgetting.
That second disc looks like it probably has quite a bit of room to fit those games.

      • Solomon_Kano

Apart from PO, none of those are canon, so I don’t know why they’d be here. And the second disc has MGS4. No room.

        • I’d take AC!D series and the GameBoy MGS over PO and MGS4 any day.

  • TheExile285

wonder how much this will be in NA. $60-70?

    • Caleb

It’s stated on the bottom of the article as being $80.

      • Solomon_Kano

That’s the conversion for what the Japanese will be paying, not an officially announced US price point.

        • Caleb

          I see…

  • shion16

Theres only one thing that could make this pack perfect.

    • MGS 4 isn’t on Vita. This collection isn’t on Vita. No cross-buy. Also, 3rd parties have no reason to support cross-buy. It’s just a lost sale.

  • That is not as expensive as I thought it would be. Is almost like buying a normal PS3 game over there only now you also get a cool box and a book with more pretty pictures =p

  • I think I will wait for this to come to Europe instead of buying the current MGS HD Collection >:3

  • Christopher Nunes

I haven’t played Twin Snakes, but how much better was it from the original MGS game? I played the original MGS game to death, I don’t remember how many times I’ve beaten that game over and over again (I believe over 10+ because that’s how much I loved it).

And isn’t the Integral version kinda like Twin Swords? Can we download Twin Snakes on the PSN or is it isn’t there?

  • Kev In

So the American Version gets Integral? *Crosses fingers*
