By Spencer . April 25, 2013 . 8:43pm

Compile Heart posted a new teaser movie for Galapagos RPG and the upcoming fantasy RPG has Final Fantasy artist Yoshitaka Amano and Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu attached to it. The Neptunia team is listed as the developer. Is this the surprising collaboration Compile Heart hinted at?

Galapagos RPG will be revealed in the May 9 issue of Famitsu.

    …lightsaber sound effects?

  • Guest

Good on Compile if they’re cleaning up their act. They’ve been making nothing but embarrassing nonsense for quite some time. Honestly, them and Gusts’s B-team (oddly, their A-team is quite fine!) have done more damage than good to the genre.

    • seconded

    • MrSirFeatherFang

What games does Gusts’s B-Team make? Ar Tonelico and Ciel no Surge?

      • Kai2591

I was wondering about that too…either way, that’s quite an insult.

    • Luna Kazemaru

Yes ignore the fact that most releases in the genre where not release to the states alone lets make shit statements like this but w/e.

    • Neophoton

    • It’d be neat if you’re right, but I have a hard time imagining that the team’s legacy of noxious crap will just up and vanish now that they have high-class music and art collaborators.

      • here here, they make games of mostly fan service and try to get by on mostly that

  • MrSirFeatherFang

I love Amano’s monster designs. I wonder what console it will be on.

    • Solomon_Kano

Going by their history, PS3. If not PS3, Vita.

  • Kioku

    I’m dying……

  • Solomon_Kano

Well, I asked and they damn sure delivered. Wouldn’t have guessed they’d snag Amano and Uematsu for their first collaboration. And here I was thinking they meant teaming up with another developer. This is even better!

Very interested in seeing how this turns out.

    • zazza345

Earthbound Papas already composed some tracks for Neptune V, actually.

      • Canceris

wow, nice to know. Why i cant wiki this info?
They also did other minor collaboration and i think the soundtrack for Unchained Blades (?), but i only know from chance.

        • zazza345

CH did advertise it quite a bit before the release of V, actually.

          • Canceris

Well, now it makes sense why they’re taking so long with that second album. They seem to be very busy with requests.

      • Solomon_Kano

Oh? I haven’t played it. Interesting. Cool that they’re collaborating again, then.

    • malek86

Didn’t Uematsu also work on Neptune mk2? Or was it V?

      • Solomon_Kano

Haven’t played the Neptune games yet, so I wouldn’t know, but guy below says V.

  • This looks gritty. Maybe they’re going for diversity now after some many throw-away moe games. I respect that, if that is in fact what they’re doing.

    • lol, all these downvotes. Suffice it to say that, uh, some portion of Siliconera’s readership and Compile Heart’s target audience have a bit of overlap.

      • I want it to be good, but more often than not these days, developers try to use gimmicks to sell games not good stories or exciting gameplay.

  • Damarius Wingfield

I guess we should do the “Demon in waiting game”!

    • Linhua

… now how does one play this… o.o…?

      • Damarius Wingfield

Simply you wait for the chance to strike(In our case when this game comes out or any updates surely) just the Fenrir did for Odin so that we can see if it’s “all that”!

  • chobitsza

I’m kind of curious on how they’ll make a moe character from Amano’s artwork though. LOL

    • zazza345

Considering Amano once said his “dream project” was to draw something with “cute girls” in contrast with the dark stuff he usually does…

      • CirnoLakes

        That sound… I hear it…

        It’s coming….

The true era. Where all in life is ruled and governed by the three kingdoms of of loli, and cute, and the grand moe. It was spoken about in the books… you saw the signs… It… is upon us.

      • Kai2591

        he said that? haha interesting!

  • Zeonsilt

Well, with Yoshitaka Amano and Nobue Uematsu involved i hope for a great JRPG.(or art design and music,at least)

  • MrTyrant

Totally unexpected for me. Now Im eager to play this.

  • DesmaX

Wow, where did they even get the budget to get them?

Oh well, something even darker than the Agarest games would be a nice change of pace. I’m hoping for the best

    • farios

Considering that Furyu, a very small game company managed to hire both of them for Unchained Bades EXXiv, they’re probably not that expensive to begin with

      • DesmaX

I guess… Mistwalker doesn’t seems to be doing anything nowadays, so I’ll assume Nobuo is taking whatever job he can

    • SirTeffy

The Earthbound Papas did music for Neptunia V too.

  • farios

This does surprising, but still needs more info because having both Amano and Uematsu doesn’t automatically means a good game

That said i love the artworks especially the last one with a floating island of UBW

  • Go2hell66

Earthbound Papa’s!? well i can tell you right now the music in this game is gonna be off the charts, always found uematsu’s music a tad overrated but damn is earthbound papa’s music awesome as hell.

  • Despite the talent of Amano and Uematsu, warning bells still go off when “Compile Heart” is mentioned…

  • I’m expecting something with a great concept but terrible execution like all of CH/IF games.

    • farios

      Hey Hakuouki was really fun

      • Well as long as you have a good plot and interesting character its hard to mess up a visual novel. I’m talking about their games with actual gameplay. I’d love to play Neptunia but a generic JRPG isn’t going to get me to play one. I am looking forward to the anime.

        • farios

Most of IF visual novel has gameplay in their otome game and theirs are one the most well received in the industry, but i get what you meant.

Honestly i never think of IF as a terrible company, mostly because i don’t hold enough expectation to their games to be disappointed, but nevertheless i enjoyed watching them grow and also they are one of the few JRPG makers that actively looking for a market in here.

          • Yea, I don’t expect anything good from CH/IF. That disappointing part comes from wasted ideas and character designs. The whole gameindustri and character based on companies/consoles is awesome but I feel it’s all wasted on a bad game.

        • DesmaX

          I’m sorry, but…

Do you really expect more for a game filled with moe?

          • I don’t expect anything from a CH/IF game except an awesome concept and nice character designs. I’d love to see a developer that didn’t suck take on a game overloaded with moe like Neptunia. Neptunia by Intelligent Systems or Monolith Soft would be awesome.

          • DesmaX

Just like the concept of an american bald guy shooting aliens is the generic american style, this moe concept is the generic japanese style.

While you can attract people who like that kind of stuff, independently if your thing is good or not, it would never be enough for a “important” developer to make a game like that (And, honestly, I would really hate if they pulled something like that). A small company like CH can pull that off, no problem

  • There wasn’t really much to go on, but the overall presentation was pretty cool. Perhaps this will be a game that will be different from all the rest. With the three parties mentioned working on this, I am eagerly awaiting more info.

  • CirnoLakes

Well those are undeniably some talented people.

Let us hope their talent is going to something good. With high quality, rich, deep gameplay and few bugs.

  • Kai2591

    Hopefully PS3.
    Hopefully a good one.
    Hopefully something I’ll like!

…but I do have my doubts…as others have said, this ‘label’ reminds me of imageepoch’s campaign last time which fell short on the delivery…

  • A now this is interes… WAIT! Famitsu? Any Compile Heart product reveal ALWAYS goes through Dengeki Playstation! Please Compile, don’t betray us by making losy 3DS games like some others over here…

    • zazza345

Famitsu publishes on its site the Neptune manga, and the Neptune anime had coverage as well. Jumping to conclusions is a bit premature, IMO.

  • Linhua

… I can’t explain it… but I feel like something in this combination is going to breed something wonderful… the theme of it is far darker than anything i’ve seen Compile Heart put out and because of this… and the fact that it’s an RPG; something both teams are very familiar with… it has my full attention.

… I know Compile Heart has been known to put out some pretty flawed titles… but i’ve been watching them improve [however slowly]… and i’m hoping that the company they are keeping for this project raises the bar and sets a new standard for their future work.

… they have my full support and i’m hoping for the best.

  • komiko12

I like Uematsu and Amano’s works, but it’s not a guarantee that the game would be great. They would just provide the music and art therefore, they would not be involved with things like gameplay, plot and all that.

    I need more info.

  • TheExile285

    what, what a team.

  • Ni

i wouldn’t get hyped till i see the gameplay and story since is Compile Heart we are talking about.

  • It’s just too bad that having Hironobu Sakaguchi’s collaborators will not turn the team behind Neptunia into Hironobu Sakaguchi.

  • Vitonofrio del Rosso

    more info plox

  • T-X

Question is, how faithfully will they replicate Amano’s style in the game? I’ve been waiting for the technology to catch up to his watercolor/ink art, any game that can look like his work would be welcomed into my library regardless.

  • I hope this comes out for the PS Vita.

  • Earthbound Papas, a Mother and Earthbound spin off!
    Anyone? No? Ok…

But seriously. Two of those 3 names excite me. Can you guess which ones?

  • Kelohmello

Yoshitaka Amano and Nobuo Uematsu? Sounds like cool designs and great music, but it still won’t change the fact that Compile Heart makes terrible games.

  • you had my money at “Nobuo Uematsu” and “Yoshitaka Amano”.

  • Alexandra Cordes

    ….I am in love.
