Ragnarok Odyssey Ace Adds The Dragon That Is Nibbling The World Tree

By Spencer . April 29, 2013 . 5:00pm

Most of the monsters in Ragnarok Odyssey and the enhanced re-release, Ragnarok Odyssey Ace, hail from Norse mythology. Niohoggr is new in Ragnarok Odyssey Ace and this creature is eating the roots of Yggdrasil, the World Tree. You may also recall Niohoggr from Shin Megami Tensei where it looks like a white snake with millipede-like arms.

Niohoggr is a dragon in Ragnarok Odyssey Ace and one of the powerful new monsters Game Arts added. Ragnarok Odyssey Ace is in development for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita.

  • Takes me back to WoW raids :3

  • dragoon_slayer12

I, want, to, fight, That!!!! Now I just mite buy it for the ps3 just for him

  • biskmater

YES! THE wyrm is up and doesn’t look like those stupid lizards, now I feel genuinely tempted to buy it again, I remember the rather grotesque disappointment that fafnir was *sniffle*.

    • Kitzunestarwind

It is easy to handle. you just don’t know how to fight.
Menia and fenia from extra chapter, Two in the light of dust is more harder to handle.

      • biskmater

Whats easy to handle, exactly? If you are talking about fafnir then yes, i agree, i just did not want the same lizard sporting a different hairdo for nidhogg or fafnir.

  • Sim marcalo

    digging this.

  • Ferofax

    Nope, I don’t recall Niohoggr.

I do however recall *Nidhoggr*, that’s the guy I know that goes about nibbling World Trees and stuff.

    • Ehren Rivers

Well, it’s often translated as Nidhoggr but the actual name of the creature is Níðhöggr, which means something along the lines of ‘Malicious Strike’. Not to be confused with Jörmungandr, the creature that encircles the world., although both are referred to dually as ‘dragon’ and ‘serpent’. ‘Nidhoggr’ is the more recognizable to a western audience, of course.

      • Ferofax

Aye, but those doodly letters are lost on me, lol. I assumed this was just a localization quirk, as is the case for most names inspired from myths and legends. Like Draupnir turning into Dropneal and so on.

        • Ehren Rivers

You take away the ‘doodly letters’ and the name of the beast is Niohoggr. The name ‘Nidhoggr’ actually falls into the same category as ‘Dropneal’, as switching the ‘o’ out for a ‘d’ is an anglicization of the original word. Or English transliteration, if you prefer.

    • artemisthemp

      Actually it’s call Nidhug

  • Is there a chance to see this released in America?

    • Xerain

      A chance? Definitely.

    • Folk Hellfang

Already announced. I think Gung Ho West is going to handle the localization rather than xseed. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

  • New Fan Nickname for Niohoggr: Nibbles, the Vegetarian World Tree Eater!

  • neetyneety

Yeah, that new interface looks really crowded. Hope there’s an option to customize it to your liking.
