Sony have announced a new Indie Games category on the PlayStation Store. As the name suggests, the new category will contain all of the latest indie games on PlayStation Network in one place.

In order to celebrate the launch of the Indie Games category, Sony are offering special deals on select indie titles. These are as follows:

  • Retro City Rampage: 50% discount to all from May 7th to May 21st

  • Papo & Yo: promotional bundle containing the soundtrack and game: 40% discount (55% for PlayStation Plus subscribers) from May 7th to May 21st

  • Zombie Tycoon II: Free for PlayStation Plus subscribers for a limited time

I like this idea. The Playstation store is kind of a pain to search through at times, especially when it comes to little known(relatively) and promoted indie titles. I think this will make some of the more unique titles easier to find and enjoy, and that’s a win for everyone in my book.

good. I hope they’re gonna pull all the indie games from other categories.

  • Xbox has a much better indie store. They are actual tiny CHEAP games that don’t have big publishers like sonny backing them up. And best off all thanks to the xbox they all have DEMOS!!!!! For crying out Sony next gen you better have more demos. I’m really looking into next box and pc.

    • I agree with your statement on demos, but 99% of XBLIG is hot garbage (what’s up with all those “avatar” games???). I’d much rather play Sony-backed indies such as Guacamelee which is one of the best metroidvanias I’ve played in years.

Well Sony has PS Plus. Instead of demos you get full versions of games for free…

    • Kaitsu

You pay for XBL to have demos. You pay for PSN(PS PLUS) for free full versions.

      I think it’s a fair game.

Can’t really agree. That store is so cumbersome to navigate that honestly I don’t even bother trying. Not only that my own games are also very hard to find because of all the ad bs they stick in normal UI when I’m not even IN the store.

  • I assume this is part of SCE’s new “developer-friendly” direction. I REALLY love that they’re willing to give special attention to smaller games like this. Sony really might “win” this next gen if this keeps up~!

  • I just hope we get those hilariously bad games like they have on XBL indie section xD

Who’s the chick in your avatar?

      • Its some fan art of a chick from Monster Hunter

        • ShadowDivz

Know the artists name? looks amusing

          • I have no idea honestly, a friend of mine linked a direct link of pic…

I don’t want anything akin to XBLIG, it’s a dumping service for hot garbage. I’m very happy with Sony opening up the flood gates to an extent, but like Steam I still want the scum gated out.
