Someone pinch me, I think I may be dreaming

    • transferstudentx

i really want to to thank baba for this epic news you u wont regret releasing this to the west your fans wont let you down i swear

    • fenix7

Haha this kinda makes sense since the originals were translated, so not a lot of translation work is needed xD

      • Raharu95

But extra voice acting is needed for the missing artes ^^’ and maybe he skits. Hopefully the Skits

        • fenix7

Missing artes and skits? Did the Japanese version get a re-release with lots of extras like the FF games? and that never made it to NA?

          • Anime10121

Yep, its the same thing Vesperia got, a better version on a Sony console with lots more added in (with the only difference being Symphonia switched to the less powerful PS2 and suffered graphically and frame ratedly).

          • fenix7

Ahh, hope Vesperia gets ported over to the PS3 or PS4 haha, don’t got a xbox.

          • Raharu95

Yeah. The first Symphonia got the better PS2 version which added mystic artes for everyone else that did not had them in the first place, namely Raine and the Thethe Alla (forgive me that I wrote that wrong) cast except for Sheena. Now for Presea this is not a problem, not so for everyone else. And the Skits were never voiced in English, and I’m sure there is probably even extra Skits from the GameCube to the PS2 version.

          • fenix7

Ah I see, maybe I will get this for the upgraded version and never played the sequel, But heard the sequel was not as good. Wonder if the sequel will get a enhanced version too.

    • Devyn

I actually had a dream of the HD collection being available in north america a couple years back. It was a good dream I couldn’t forget…

    • Vaporeon23

    • artemisthemp

      It’s only Symphonia.
It’s not like he announced PS3 version of Vesperia coming to the West

      • Belphegor

This still… ToV is already available in HD! I’d rather ToS HD remaster be localised and give a new generation of gamers an opportunity to play this pivotal entry in the series than a slightly enhanced port.

        • artemisthemp

If you can read Japanese yes, else no

          • Belphegor

I’m guessing you don’t count the XBox 360 as a HD console then?

          • artemisthemp

I does own the 360 version of Vesperia, but I want the extra content from PS3 and I sadly ain’t able to understand Japanese enough to play the Japanese Version.

  • Somazu

No surprises here. After all, both are already localised. The only surprise is how quick they confirmed it for a western release.
I can’t wait for it to come out!

  • Alex

We come a long way,who here would have thought that.
lets believe in collector edition then because thats what we do.

  • Alexander Aubert

i’m not in an another world, am i?

  • Zoozbuh

I never got a chance to play either of those games, so this is PERFECT for me. So happy the Tales series is finally getting some proper love in English-speaking regions! ;D

    • Wait what

I’ve never had a chance to play any of the series. I was planning on getting Abyss 3DS and then Xillia as my entry point, but since this one is so loved I might save my money and start with this.

      • Ladius

Symphonia is beloved by many Tales fans, but it’s also an old game that doesn’t mirror the series’ current quality in terms of systems and presentation.

Do yourself a favor and play the upcoming Xillia (the best localized Tales in terms of production values, and really solid overall) or VesperiaGraces f before tackling it.

        • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Graces f is pretty different. I entered the series with DotNW(my brother owned symphonia, barely played it, I took it and played it some time later after renting DotNW) Tales of the Abyss is fine as an entry point IMO. Vesperia is very good, definetly worth playing it. If you have a DSlite you can import Hearts and Innocence as well and play those.

        • Play it chronologically and start with Symphonia, or well the oldest you can get/are interested in since in my case I couldn’t play Abyss 3DS after playing Graces f and Xillia ;w;

That is naturally only if you are interested in older ones. If you’re just looking for an entry point get Graces f or wait for Xillia, both very good~

Edit: Sorry wanted to reply to Wait what orz

      • British_Otaku

Tales of the Abyss (I enjoyed it in the past as an entry point even if it is a little different) is pretty cheap at this point on the 3DS, you may as well try it as it probably won’t hit on January 1st 2014.

Perhaps try Xillia as well, Ladius seems to have a lot of faith in it.

    • fireemblembeast

I played Symphonia twice, but I should give it back to my friend now…it’s his copy, lol. And with this, I can have my own [better] copy for under 100 bucks!

  • RadShiro

    Oh mah gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawd

  • gustinex

    is this real life ?

    • CirnoLakes

      Is this just fantasy?

      • Chris Yuen

        Caught in a landslide.

        • CirnoLakes

          No escape from reality.

          • RovCal

            open your eyes.

          • Aldorr

Look up to the skies and see

          • RovCal

i am just a poor boy, i need no sympathy.

          • Jrpgfanatic

            C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER!

          • Aristides

Because I’m easy come, easy go.

          • Valtiel Ikari

            little high, little low

          • Aristides

Anyway the wind blows, doesn’t really matter to me, to me

          • Viper718

            Mama, just killed a man

          • RovCal

put a gun against his head.

          • djl33

pulled my trigger, now he’s dead

  • landlock

Yeah no surprise, Symphonia 1 was one of if it the best selling Tales Of in the west wasn’t it. Plus there already translated.

    • LightZero

This will likely be the PS2 version so there still will be new translations plus they have to bring in the new actors since the old actors are a part of an union.

      • landlock

Yeah because union actors have never done non-union work before. Heck Cam Clarke has been in nearly every Tales of game since Symphonia.

      • landlock

I did have a reply for you about actors but apparently it was delete worthy. I guess they don’t like union talk here even though it’s obvious.

        • M’iau M’iaut

          Your first response is here.

  • MrSirFeatherFang

cool, now we get those extras from the PS2 version. My friend and I are definitely gonna co-op play this!

  • TheSwordUser

That’s very nice. Looking forward to it.

  • zweii

First time for any Tales of game that a western port was announced the same as the Japanese one.

    • Safe to say the current preorders for Xillia 1 helped.

    • Raharu95

Actually, did not Vesperia held that tittle ?

  • DanteJones

Now this is when you’re supposed to say “please be excited”.

  • Rob Hestar

    Do you believe in magic?

  • r0gamer940

Right. Well. Where’s the PS3 version of Vesperia?

    • Rob Hestar

I loved the xbox version and I would buy the ps3 version day 1..Bring this over and

Tales of Innocence R and I’ll be happy as hell!

    • DesmaX

It’s not coming. They already said a thousand times

    • Early heads up here. The next joker to do this gets a ban with no warnings. We’re not having another of these discussions derailed by the usual Vesperia PS3 whining.

      • SBKJAZZ

Hey now. Come on. Just a few days ago they denied any musings of a Symphonia remake. I know what the old news was, that’s not to say that it isn’t possible in a few years as an “HD” port on the PS4 or whatever.

        • Randy Marsh

What’s your point? The day before Xillia 2 was revealed, they said the new title was not related to Xillia. So yeah, they have to lie, deal with it.

And Vesperia PS3? Simple answer: Import it like the rest of us.

          • hunterrnl

Dont mind those fake fans >_>

          • SBKJAZZ

If they lie about one thing, they can surely lie about another. And you act as if changing their mind is impossible. If the numbers tell Namco a different story than they did in the past, you never know what might happen. Otherwise, you’re basically admitting that due to numbers, neither Vita Tales game will appear in the West.

          • Jose Deckard Narváez

the trouble with Vesperia PS3, is named Microsoft, since they hold and i dont think they will release, the rights for Vesperia outside japan, it has been told too many times its just stupid to arge about when will ToVps3 will come to america, Tales series is not about Vesperia only, heck, i would love thousands times more to hear a news about bringing this side of the oceans any RM beyond the 1, or Innoncence, wich i hold as my favorite one from the series. So in case you already forgot… Vesperia PS3 will never touch this side of the oceans in non-japanesse language while Micrsosoft still owns the rights of distribution oustide of Japan.

          • LightZero

The trouble you heard is wrong so stop spreading misinformation. Namdai just doesn’t think it’s a good investment especially when enhanced ports almost always sell worst than the original. Why bother with an old game that you can still play on the 360 when you can release new games like Xillia 2? Some people need get over it. Vesperia is not even THAT great of a game. It’s a good game but it’s not worth the holy grail that some fans seem to give it.

MS does not own Vesperia just like Nintendo doesn’t owned Symphonia as proven with this video.

          • M’iau M’iaut

Please note that in this very conversation is a reminder this thread is not about Vesperia. Please move to the topic and game at hand. Thanks.

      • Wait what

That’s a little harsh. Not everyone knows about the history of every argument or conversation here. It could have easily been me saying that and I’ve never paid attention to the comments of Tales pages, or it could have been a new user.

        • Honestly, I really don’t care any more. It isn’t about the history of arguments “here,” it’s about the history of the argument on the net in general. If people can’t be mature, it isn’t up to us to babysit them.

          • Wait what

Saying they wish a game in a series was brought over to America isn’t really immature, though. You might as well start banning anyone who mentions Versus XIII on every FF article as well. Sure, it’s annoying to see every comment on an article that mentions FF boil down to that, but where do you draw the line? Banning people for posting their wishes for the franchise on a relevant post without any warning when they could have no idea you don’t want them to post about it is, frankly, ridiculous. I love this website, but now I’m going to be constantly afraid what I’m going to post is going to get me banned because you mentioned in the comments of something I never read you are sick of hearing about it.

          • It really isn’t as hard as you make it out to be. It’s simply a matter of applying common sense. There are times when there’s a point to complaining about something (and the comment in question was kind of worded in a not-very-nice way) and times when you need to move on. Here are a few examples:

Capcom: “Sorry guys, Ace Attorney Investigations sold terribly, so we aren’t sure where the franchise sits in the West right now. Let’s wait and see how AA5 does before we figure out if we can bring over AAI2, which is a pretty old game by this point and looks relatively dated.”

In the above case, reminding them that you want AAI2 is a productive effort. They want to be reminded. They haven’t ruled out the possibility and the community plays a role in the decision.

Nintendo: “We have nothing to announce about Earthbound in the West at this time, but are grateful for the support the franchise receives from our fans.”

Similarly, in the above scenario, people are more than welcome to make their voices heard, and as demonstrated, such efforts do inevitably pay off, even if it takes a while for it to happen.

Namco: “Sorry guys, Vesperia PS3 isn’t happening and we have no plans to make it happen in the future either. Here’s Tales of Xillia instead, and the two Symphonia remasters. We’re focused on the future, OK? If you want to play Vesperia, play the Xbox version.”

Now, here’s a case where they’ve been quite explicit about their intent to not want to go back to an older game, especially since a fully legitimate, translated version of the game exists for a very popular console already.

As far as Namco are concerned, you can play the game if you want to. They don’t care where your console loyalties lie. In this scenario, your options are either to:

            1. Get over your loyalties and buy/borrow an Xbox.

            2. Get over the fact that Xbox received an exclusive Tales and you won’t be able to play it.

            3. If you intend to continue complaining, do it on forums such as Namco’s Facebook page or Twitter, where it can be heard. Not on websites like Siliconera where all you do is ruin people’s fun with the constant complaining.

          • Wait what

I agree that complaining gets old, but I still have a problem with the idea of you guys banning people without warning just for complaining about something. Not everyone knows how sick people are of hearing the same complaints, and they’re just expressing their desires for a specific game.

In this particular case, I can see why someone might bring up Tales of Vesperia again. A previously exclusive Tales game is coming to PS3. So someone might mention the other exclusive game they want to come to PS3. Telling them “just buy an xbox and deal with it” is unreasonable, since not everyone can buy or borrow a whole different system. But, really, that’s whatever. It’s your website, if you are sick of hearing people saying the same thing, you guys can make that a rule.

I just think it’s unfair that you have the mindset of “ban them without warning”. How is that not ruining someone’s fun on this website? Especially if they had no idea you said something like this. Banning without warning because they complained about something you are sick of hearing about is honestly shocking to me, and I’m baffled this conversation is even happening. At least give people a warning before you ban them for their opinions/complaining, no matter how tired you are of seeing them.

          • I agree that complaining gets old, but I still have a problem with the idea of you guys banning people without warning just for complaining about something.

That’s why I did issue a warning. He hasn’t been banned. No one has yet. We don’t ban without warnings unless someone is really going overboard. Read what I said.

          • Wait what

I did read what you said: “The next joker to do this gets a ban with no warnings.”

You specifically say the next person to do it gets a ban without a warning. My point the entire time was that the next person might not see this random comment on this now-old article and might not know the history behind your annoyance. Did you read what either of us said?

          • As I said before, it isn’t simply the history behind my annoyance, it’s a number of factors. It’s the history behind the argument, it’s the way the comment in question was worded, and a bunch of other things. It really does not take much more than common sense.

If people intend to post in the comments for this article, they’re expected to look through the discussion that’s taken place prior to their coming in. If they aren’t willing to do that, they’re better off staying out of the comments, since no discussion comes from people who intend to just leave snarky one-line remarks anyway.

While I understand your viewpoint, ours is equally necessary to keep things on track in the comments. The sad truth is that when we’re lenient, people use it as an excuse to act stupid.

          • Wait what

As I’ve said before, I understand and agree with your annoyance and viewpoints. I just think banning anyone without warning is too harsh, and you specifically said the next person would be banned “without warning”. If you considered your post here suitable warning enough, you wouldn’t have said “WITHOUT warning”. Honestly, I’m starting to get a little offended at how you keep saying all I need to understand it is common sense, or that I should read what you’ve said. So I think it’s best we just end this conversation now. The topic here is old anyway, I just hope I’m not banned without warning in the future for something I didn’t have the common sense enough to know you’re sick of hearing.

          • Well, if you have a better idea, I’m all ears. I mean, there really isn’t much more we can do at this point. Telling people to knock it off clearly doesn’t work. The nicer we try to be, the more people try to bend the rules. The less we put our foot down, the more they try to engage in “subtle trolling”.

I don’t even know if there is a solution. The sad truth is that this is the Internet, and 90% of people type without putting much thought into what they’re saying. I’d very much like for Siliconera’s community to be comprised of the other 10%, so if it comes down to us having to be a little harsh, I’m okay with that, and so are our mods.

Suffice to say, if the original comment had been worded more politely, this may not have come up at all. But when you decide to post snarky one-liners like some entitled little brat, it naturally raises a red flag. Maybe you’re desensitized to this kind of behaviour on the net. I’m sure we all are to some extent… but the point is, we shouldn’t have to be.

Also, the “Without warning” part was to indicate that this was a warning, and that no further warnings would be issued within this particular thread of comments thereafter. I thought that was plainly obvious.

  • scratchbach

Baba always seems like such a nice guy!

    • Kioku

Make sure we say thanks to him.
Without him, we’ll not be seeing another Tales game localized in the West…

    • If I ever get the chance I would thank him for all the supprt

  • DesmaX

And it sounded too good to be true… Really can’t believe that this is real.

I’ve been wanting to play these games since ever

  • Randy Marsh

Well, day one import for me!

  • Victoria [Rokuso3]

I never had a Game Cube, so I’m really happy!!

    • This is what I was about to say!
Looking forward to this, although I’d bet my hands will still be full with Xillia if this is coming out in early 2014 :)

  • William Carpenter

So very cool that Hideo Baba is personally putting in so much effort to drum up interest for Tales in the West. Such great progress from where the situation was just a year or two ago, really.

  • MrJechgo

Hmmm… I wonder what else will be added… Are we gonna get new dungeons, new playable characters, a revamped system (a controllable Overlimit would be nice; God I hate that Sheena can’t summon her spirits normally), DotNW retold?

    • Draparde

omg i would love controllable overlimits in the origonal game X_x

  • Seven Infinity

I’ve played it on gamecube and Wii…
But it’s really nice to have more Tales being Localized:)

Umm, i was hoping for the first symphonia to change their appearance to become actual human size, not super deformed.

  • CirnoLakes

    • Sentsuizan_93

You been playing too much Symphonia.
      Not that it’s a problem :P

      • CirnoLakes

Only over 1,000 hours of my life, haha.

        • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

The game still looks great on the Gamecube you know. But the Wii one does need a remake. It needs an overworld and it needs to fix the character issue

          • CirnoLakes

“The game still looks great on the Gamecube you know.”
            Yes, I do. Why?

That comment also came out of nowhere. I wasn’t saying anything about how the game looks.

          • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Because you should be giving the game 2000 hours of your life at the moment^

  • XYZ_JolteonZ980

I hope it will be playable on ps4 or i guess i better keep my ps3

    • CirnoLakes

It doesn’t sound like there’s any PlayStation 4 annoucement right now.

You should keep your PlayStation 3. The PlayStation 4 is merely going to be a glorified PC(which is a good thing in my book, a very good thing). So it isn’t going to be backwards compatible with PlayStation 3 games for probably a very long time.

      • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

If consoles keep converging with PC’s then certain problems will arise, but hey at least they are all going to be GPGPU centric

        • CirnoLakes

“If consoles keep converging with PCs then certain problems will arise”
          What problems?

          • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Xbone problems. When platforms become more like PC, this turns into a game of services.

          • CirnoLakes

Becoming more like a PC does not mean more like the XBOX One.

          • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

If you think so, but I know better.

    • Ladius

If you like jrpgs you will need your PS3 well into 2014, we are getting lots of games next year if things go well, and even 2013 is filled with titles from Namco and NIS.

    • M’iau M’iaut

Of course you are keeping your PS3. (Looks for something bigger than a folded paper fan to smack over your head.)

  • CirnoLakes

… Well.. so much for Nintendo licenses getting in the way of us getting this game for a Sony platform.

    • 古戸ヱリカ

Your excitement for this game is the strongest!

  • Asura

Can I get just the first game? No really, I wanna pretend the sequel never existed.

    • Sentsuizan_93

You know, you can just play the first game and ignore the second. Just saying… But come on, the second wasn’t THAT bad.

      • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Indeed it was not, but they need to remake that game not remaster it. Give it a complete map this time, fix the character levels and the rest of the frivolities. That will fix the games length issue. Oh and more end game content.

        • Sentsuizan_93

Yeah. I understand what you’re getting at with Dawn of the New World. The map almost made the game seem too linear and you couldn’t explore it. And the levels were… not the best. It had quite a few flaws, but it was an okay game overall, but it felt… short. Too short.

          • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Which was all fine and dandy when I first played it ( I rented it from library because it looked like a game I’d like and thus began my love affair with the Tales series)

      • Asura

It’s not like the first Symphonia had stellar dialogue or anything, but the second one had dialogue that made me want to gouge my eyes out.

  • SirRichard

Hell of a tiny gap between “announced” and “announced for the West”, impressively so for this series. But then, Symphonia was the most popular of the lot over here, wasn’t it? It already has a translation, too, so they might as well.

  • Sentsuizan_93

And the wallet slaying even continues in 2014… *sigh* My poor poor wallet…..

  • Tails the Foxhound

Releases game on Nintendo’s worst selling home console ever, sells the most in the series in the west anyways.
Turns around and ignores fans and rereleases on PS3 only.
Suffice to say, I’m not happy.

    • CirnoLakes

How is this ignoring the fans?

      • Tails the Foxhound

It does outright ignore like half the fans. Not all the fans mind you, just the ones unwilling or unable to buy a PS3.

        • M’iau M’iaut

Please stop and note console begging/requests/wishes are against the site rules. Thanks.

          • Tails the Foxhound

I’m not asking/begging/wishing, unless it’s a reveal being saved for E3 (why would it be), it’s not happening and everyone knows it. I think it’s stupid and I said as such. I do understand haw very borderline crying about it is though, so I won’t say anymore. Thanks for not just deleting the comment, I really do appreciate that.

        • CirnoLakes

While it would be great for more Tales games to be multiplatform. Their development for the PlayStation 3 has been happening for a long time

The XBOX 360 version of Tales of Vesperia sold extremely poorly in Japan, so they moved development to the PlayStation 3. I assume being frustrated with the Wii version and sale of Tales of Graces, they started developing for the PlayStation 3.

But in either case they moved to the PlayStation 3. And that doesn’t appear to be slowing down, right now. I honestly think that most Tales fans own a PlayStation 3 by right now anyway. I don’t think that anywhere near half of Tales fans don’t have a PlayStation 3.

For whatever reason, Namco Bandai only seems to be considering development for what it considers the most popular system, as well as the most popular system for their games right now. Perhaps they don’t consider the development costs for multiplatform development to be worth it.

In either case they’re definitely not trying to ignore the fans. I hate to say it, but people who are dying for Tales games on the XBOX 360, Wii, or Wii U are in the minority right now. It would be nice to see more games for the Wii U right now, but I don’t think that Namco Tales are going to be the ones to do it.

          • Tails the Foxhound

The sales of Vesperia and Graces versions 1 are dubious examples at best.
Vesperia being on Xbox was their best shot at the western audience they claim so much that they want but they skimped out on details and arbitrarily cut things from the Xbox version. Finished things (the English VAs recorded their second Mystic Artes).
Graces Wii was a train wreck, there were so many bugs and glitches that it was pretty much ‘Tales of Sonic ’06’. How is it that that was built by the main Tales team and was riddled with so many problems, yet Symphonia 2 was built by their B team and was more or less fine (though even that got two revisions). It’s because they didn’t try.
I guess them only developing on the most popular console explains the two Vita games to the 3DS’ one…oh wait…

    • The PS3 already has two Tales games in English, and four in Japanese. I would think many people who want to play Tales games already have a PS3 by this point.

      • Tails the Foxhound

So they should just be content to keep the fanbase they have? Japanese sales numbers have already begun showing slight signs of decline (though it could be argued that this is just people waiting on the inevitable definitive version). They should be making a push for multiplatform for this coming generation. Staying exclusive is gonna hurt a lot of big companies soon.

        • Oh, I’m not saying expanding the audience isn’t a good idea; the question is whether Namco cares enough about other consoles. It’s not a secret that, as far as the Tales series is concerned, Namco hasn’t exactly been favorable to non-Sony consoles.

    • asch999

Of course they will release this on PS3 where most of Tales fans and potential to bring profit right now.

      • Tails the Foxhound

Ah the old, Namdai BS spin. The Playstation titles sell more because they are always the definitive versions. Also, no one said Wii U exclusive.

    • Kalis Konig

Agreed. There is no reason this should not have been a cross-platform title. Probably just to lazy to study the WiiU’s hardware and make it compatible. I have a PS3 but making it an exclusive just seems wrong to me.

      • M’iau M’iaut

As has been noted, there is a PS2 version of Symphonia. In the eyes of the company and Japanese fans, they are merely carrying over that audience. That is also the audience stateside developed for Graces and Xillia.

        • Kalis Konig

Yeah I know Of the PS2 version. it sold much worse then the Gamecube version if I recall. I have two PS3’s so it really is not a big deal just hate when companies choose to hug on a single console rather then give gamers options. Makes sense to stick with the PS3 considering they know how many sells to expect. Still turns me off when devs play it safe without even trying though. Then again I guess a series like tales has no choice but to play it safe in the west.

          • Ladius

Actually, the PS2 port of ToS sold better than the GC original in Japan, the only market where it was released.

    • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

I can understand in the case of Symphonia:DotNW why it should be for Wii U, but the original Symphonia had a definitive version that was made for PS2 in Japan only. I’m guessing they’re going with that one to make hi-res first and since Tales has been doing very well on PS3 this gen (at least in Japan), they have no reason to really just switch over now.

      • Tails the Foxhound

I don’t want them to switch, it should be for both.

  • Ladius

This is fantastic news for everyone who missed those games, I’m not the biggest Symphonia fan but announcing a western release is a really good move, considering how that game is the most successful Tales in Europe and the US.

Also, I think we should all be grateful to Baba for the work he has done to foster the series in the west: there isn’t another jrpg spokeperson that has such a western presence in terms of interviews, conventions and PR, and this video is yet another nice gesture on his part.

Now, I can only hope both Xillia and Symphonia HD are successful like they deserve to be, and that Xillia 2 gets announced next.

    • SirTeffy

Early reports indicate that the Xillia preorders alone were enough to guarantee Xillia 2 in the USA, this is just icing on the cake.

      • r0gamer940

where did you get this info. please let it be true

      • Ladius

Where did you read this? The only similar thing I have seen in the last days was the US Limited Edition announcement, which mentioned the CE’s good preorder numbers but gave no confirmations whatsoever about Xillia 2.

  • Bojan Njegomir

Hats off to Hideo Baba and crew. This is what i respect about him, fans spoke, they heard us, fans asked, they pleased us. Unlike Square that is doing excatly opposite of what we want, and pisses me off just thinking about it! But wait, let me look at the article name again, i am good! :D Thank you Tales Studio!

    • Marc Paradis

FFX International, FFX-2 International & KH final mix are all coming to the West. SE is listening too.

      • Bojan Njegomir

  • CirnoLakes

    Whew…. whew…. I can’t breathe…

I need to go walk/run/jog for 10 miles to burn off this energy I think.
    This news.

  • British_Otaku

Was considering getting it on the GameCube and Wii, which would be pretty expensive for the former. >_> My PS3 is dead and gone but I’ll get this if it turns out well regardless of whether I have a PS3 by then.

  • Tales_of_Master

    * * * * YEAH

  • Chris Yuen

Woah. Called it on the earlier post on the announcement of the Japanese version. I had no idea it would be confirmed so fast though…I just returned from my dinner break and heard the confirmation…every Tales fan on my Twitter are freaking out. Baba, we love you man!

  • Square-Enix should be taking notes from Baba on how to treat your fan base overseas

    • GH56734

Funny how Namdai (even with all PSP and PSV games it has been skipping) got better anyways than Square Enix in terms of localization policies. Excited for more Namdai goodness, yet how SE became is truly saddening. Literally none of the games were localized by their US branch (BD is done by Nintendo)

    • Marc Paradis

What are you talking about? Both FFX & X-2 international HD are coming overseas. I think SE are doing a good job.

      • Bojan Njegomir

What are u talking about? Are u new to SE? If u knew them from PS1-PS2 (and even Nintendo era) u wouldn’t be writing stuff like this. SE is just a mere shadow of what Squaresoft once delievered, and that is best RPG’s on planet!

  • Andrew A

  • psycho_bandaid

Gah. I remember playing Symphonia on the GC and giving up after about 10 hours. Nothing particularly bad, just the game didn’t click with me. Still, I’ve been told enough that I’m an idiot since and the game is a bit of a slow starter. I guess I’ll give it another shot. At least I’ll be supporting the series a bit.

  • Yamaneko22

Namdai became a positive example of how to treat a western fanbase wow @[email protected] Not so long ago it was unthinkable…

Cheers for Baba, Namdai and Tales series!! xD

  • Farid Belkacemi

What does that mean for Tales of Xillia 2 ? Summer 2014 ?

    • Ladius

Xillia still isn’t out in the west, they will probably decide to localize Xillia 2 or skip it when they see the first chapter’s sales in America and Europe.

  • PaleCompanion

    Thank you… Thank you…

  • Brandonmkii

Not a huge Symphonia fan, but classy moves from Bamco.

  • LustEnvy

Very excited. I didn’t give Symphonia a chance back in the GC days, as I couldn’t connect with the SD characters.

I’ll be getting this and giving it another chance with a more open mind. That’s just what Tales fans have to do.

  • James Williams

Im so shocked by the news that my hot coffee went cold!

  • Musashi234

  • Guest

Will NA get the Limited Edition that Japan will be getting?

    • Ladius

Considering Namco is doing Day One editions and Collectors for most of its games, I imagine that’s extremely likely.

  • Maumac77

THIS is what I wake up to….well…..I’m going to go cry tears of joy. My wallet will cry from me knowing that I will but both versions considering I can’t wait until 2014.

  • Go2hell66

So miracles do come true!! (╯°□°)╯

  • enorka miho

I AM SUPERRRRR HYPPEDD!!! I almost fainted!! Thank you so so much Hideo Baba!!!!

  • NightzeroAX

I hope they bring back the old voice actors in the english version. Cam Clarke as Kratos is … just too good.

    • RichyGaming

Something tells me that nothing is going to change in terms of voice actors. Like, they’re not even going to edit that.

      • NightzeroAX

So no new voices for the new Hi-Ougi’s? (Regal, Presea etc.)?

        • RichyGaming

I don’t know for sure, since I didn’t even look into it. But i’m just assuming that they’re not going to edit the voice acting. But if they do, that’d be awesome. I doubt the will bring in the same voice actors though.

          • GH56734

They didn’t dub the beta artes clips in the US GC version (that’s why they dummied the Sound Test btw) , some of these were used in the PS2 version with more added in. Maybe they’re leaving those not voiced?

  • Christopher Nunes

    They announced already!? o_0

Holy cow! But I’m stroked! Definitely will get it!

  • Mavalex

    • I have a feeling the success of Tales overseas will start to grab lots of attention in the East. What becomes of it is left to be seen though

Baba should be a part time consultant

  • Vesperion

Never thought i would see the day Namco would start to show us english speakers love so fast.

  • KingGunblader

So it IS real! Baba, you sly devil!

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

The fact they already said it will get a western release is totally sweet. I’m not going to say IT…….

  • echokanon

  • Neppygear

I already have ToS on GameCube, but…
    Fuck that, I’m so in.

  • KyoyaHibari

I totally called it ;) this could be a great resurgence of the franchise in the west given how Symphonia was such a huge hit, so this could really help localize other titles. Thankfully it’s coming out pretty early too.

  • Anime10121

    And Derpus double posts :(

  • Fidelis

Will this have a localized ps2 version of TOS or will it just have a port of the original?

  • videoman190

Now do the vita Tales games!

  • Anime10121

Fantastic news! Now I wonder if the other half of the rumor is true ( that they plan on bringing Xillia 2 to the west). While Symphonia isn’t among my top 3 Tales of games, it was a good game nonetheless, and ill gladly revisit Sylverant and Tethealla once again!

Oh and once the rumor hit with no teases of a brand new Tales, I figured this would turn out to be true. Guess they are saving the next big Mothership Tales of for the 20th anniversary.

  • Crimson_Cloud

Unbelievable but shockingly good news. :)

  • Rytan

…I was debating over if I really wanted to invest in a PS3 instead of getting more games for my 3DS. This confirmed my decision.

    • Ladius

Don’t forget to buy Graces f and the upcoming Xillia if you like this series, you’re in for a treat :)

      • Rytan

        I plan on it! :D

  • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

My hat is off to Baba and his team for really trying to push the Tales series over here in the west. If you make your fans happy, they will return the favor.

Now… let’s talk about bringing those Vita titles over too, hmmm?

    • Ladius

That’s unlikely to happen, they sold extremely poorly in Japan and the western Vita userbase isn’t better, not to mention their localization would be just as costly as the PS3 games. Now, Xillia 2 is a game that could still be localized if we all give our support to Xillia.

  • noctis_nox

Kind of expected because of the rumor but the one that surprised me was the quick announcement of localization. Dayum!!

    Off topic:
There are posters in here that deserves to be warned for Port begging.

  • Aldorr

…. the same Baba, who “quashed the rumor” just recently? ;)

  • Learii

am I dreaming? please tell me I not dreaming I can’t wait

  • GH56734

Xillia 2 is suddenly more likely to be localized ^^
(Too bad the Vita R remakes are not getting exported any time soon)

  • Looking forward to half of this :D

  • Luke Blackwood

    I CAN’T

    • Maxwell3000

  • ragingmerifes

Oh, Namco. I still love you, after all.

Also, expecting for Dark Souls II to have a easter egg of this, like Regal’s handcuffs.

  • TruSpindash

Hey guys, remember when when simply mentioning Namco Bandai would result in a ton of people getting upset about Tales games not getting localized. Yeah, those were crazy times.
I usually don’t buy HD remasters for games I already own but I might make an exception here, if for no other reason than to support the series.

    • Ladius

Things have really changed, with Graces f, Xillia and Symphonia HD’s localizations the series now has a chance to be relevant again, provided fans stay true to their word and support it. Also, Namco has done a great job with the Souls series, Ni no Kuni, Project X Zone and even Time and Eternity (through NISA), nowadays they are akin to the smaller niche publishers in terms of jrpg output.

  • DyLaN

Now if only the two Vita Tales can cross the sea….

    • Maxwell3000

      • yo1234

,,,, did you? did you really?

    • LightZero

Unlike the PS3, the Vita is flopping horribly in the west so don’t expect that to happen.

    • Ladius

Unfortunately the Vita Tales are probably unfeasible in terms of localizations, once you consider how small the userbase is and how bringing them here would cost just as much as a PS3 Tales in terms of scripts and dub. Xillia 2 is a far better target for the next localization considering it’s the latest PS3 mothership game, the fanbase should support Xillia in order to give it a chance.

      • DyLaN

Ah good ol’ catch-22 dilemma… Dev don’t want to localize Vita games due to low sales, but one of the reason Vita sold badly is the lack of games (frm wht I heard anyway)…

        • Ladius

Keep in mind Tales games are extremely costly in terms of localization thanks to thier huge scripts and big amount of voiced dialogues, there’s a reason why most localized Vita jrpgs are either portings of previously localized games or titles with little scripts.

  • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Only a Remaster? Eh, gotta do more than that Namco. Like fix Knight of Ratatosk completely.

  • transferstudentx

i am glad iam alive right now

  • NTaiyokun

    So much hype

  • Raharu95

Yatta¡¡¡¡ :D that’s all i got say. that has been one of the greatest tales new ^^

  • Aqua King

This makes me happy. PS3 please :)

  • Space_Ghost

Nice! For some stupid reason I never played the original games, so now I’ll get a good shiny HD chance.

Just an observation: Someone down-voted every comment in this article. This is one tiny reason why I’m a misanthrope. Some people just suck.

    • Someone apparently doesn’t like Tales of games. :(

      • Space_Ghost

It definitely seems so. Well, you lovely people have given me some hope in humanity! ;)

    • Neophoton

I wouldn’t worry about a meager down vote. Be more excited for Namco being more willing about bring Tales games over. Huzzah! :P

      • Space_Ghost

I’m not worried, I just think it’s a little ridiculous. I am excited, believe me! I’ve got Xillia pre-ordered and will certainly swoop this up as well.

    • CirnoLakes

Truly, if there is evil in this world, it lurks in the hearts of..

      • Engi3Piece

Am I’m the only one who read that in the Tales of Phantasia intro voice?

  • transferstudentx

i really want to say to baba thank you thank you thank you thank you u wont regret releasing this to the west your fans wont let you down i swear

  • Well, I’m certainly screaming.

I guess I’ll be waiting until this is out to play the game again. I even went and got it on Gamecube again last year but haven’t gotten around to playing it, ahaha…

This is still pretty much excellent news, and I’m surprised AND pleasantly shocked that they announced a localization immediately. Bravo!

  • Yes!

  • Michael Connell

Does anyone know if there was any difference between the Gamecube and PS2 versions of Symphonia when it comes to content?

    • KingGunblader

PS2 had some extra content (bosses, Mystic Artes etc.)

    • Subaru

      – Different Opening theme (which won’t probably affect the western release because the opening tracks are usually swapped out anyway)

      – Additional anime cut-scenes

      – all playable characters have mystic artes while in the GC version only Lloyd, Genis and Collette have theirs

      – additional sidequests and costumes

      – some visual improvements like shaking portraits in skit sequences or added cut-ins of characters faces for some attacks

  • Neophoton

I probably won’t be getting this, but what I do want to express joy over is Namco being more willing to bring over Tales. Good show, Namco Bandai!

  • Misty Dawson

I read the rumors and was being hopeful but… my body still wasn’t ready

  • Letiumtide

    Whoooo! Sold!

  • Aristides

    Pure awesomeness! :P

  • katzedan

YES! this news totally made my day! *-*
I was trying to get to play this on emulators xD
Day 1 purchase for me *and if possible collector/limited edition*
Now, I’ll just wait for this *hoping they announce Vesperia en english for ps3 *

    • Ladius

Let’s focus on Xillia 2, that is the only unannounced Tales game we can hope to get here, provided Xillia is a success.

  • Definitely picking these up but I’m surprised that they are coming to PS3 and not the Wii U but ohh well at least they are coming that’s good enough for me. Here’s hoping that Xillia sales will make its sequel come over.

  • AkuLord3

    The Game that got me into the series and its…”alright” sequel coming in a HD collection and this time no big wait for news but NOW…Namco plz…don’t make me cry cuz i love soo much ;A;

  • MasterScrub

A Tales game announced for all regions at the same time? What alternate dimension have I entered, and how can I make sure I stay forever?

  • Linhua

    … at first I was like: “Ahh… Tales of Symphonia. I just might get it… o.o …”

… and then when I saw Dawn of the New World added to it, my wallet just unconsciously flew off my dresser and hit the screen… O_O;; …

… this is almost the same thing that happened to me with that Final Fantasy X HD Collecton.

… apparently, $h!% just got real or something .-.

    • Maumac77

First comment I’ve seen regarding a more positive outlook on Dawn of the New World being added. I enjoyed it for the most part, although I think I will be able to tolerate Emil’s voice a bit more in the Japanese version :p

      • Linhua

… hmm… you’ve got me thinking a bit here… I can’t quite remember how Emil sounded. He couldn’t have been as bad as Arc Rise Fantasia’s Ryfia, could he…?

… I would think he’d be just as memorable as her if he was that bad… but then again I have a much higher tolerance for these dubs than most fans.

        • Michael Connell

Emil was basically Johnny Young Bosch doing his Shinji Ikari impression

          • Linhua

            … i’m curious… could you provide me a clip…?

          • Nameless App 1989

Look him up on Eureka Seven as Renton.

          • Michael Connell

            Okay, these skits should work:

          • Linhua

… haha… I totally hear it! XD … but I do agree with Maumac… the voice totally worked for Emil’s character… and I guess that’s why it didn’t seem to bother me as I played.

… thanks, for the skit video, Michael.

          • Spirit Macardi

Actually he was doing his Renton Thurston voice.

Still a mech pilot, but far less f***ed up x3

        • Maumac77

His VA was perfect for his characterization. So while it’s good character wise, I still didn’t like hearing it lol

    • Jose Deckard Narváez

you know what could have made this release beyond perfect, turn it into a full Aselia Collection with Phantasia, Naridan and the Summoner lineage into the pack.

      • Linhua

.-. Wow Shame on me I haven’t played any of those… is that Phantasia what I think it is…?

        • Jose Deckard Narváez

Yes, If for this you think ofTales of Phantasia, the first game of the series and technically a long distant Sequel to Symphonia, about 2000 years or more after the events of Lloyd and Friends. The Tales of Phantasia Narikiri Dungeon ocurs some time in the future as well Tales of the World Summoner Lineage wich is more or less like a srpg.

      • My exact thoughts, man. It would be ideal, but I’m already glad that we’re getting the Symphonia Chronicles.

  • 果林

oo i get to have a chance to pick up the older games neat

  • jfinley88

While I’m stoked were getting more Tales in the west and I’m still buying this day one. This game is comparable to Final Fantasy VII in how overrated it is. Really good game don’t get me wrong but Eternia, Phantasia, Vesperia, even Abyss were better IMO. Symphonia DotNW, Graces F have been my least favorite.

  • AaqibRawat

I would have preferred tales of rebirth,Tales of destiny 2 or Tales of destiny 1 directors cut.

I have both of these games already in english……..

were they hard to get hold of in the us ?

symphonia was great 2 was a bit ergh

    • M’iau M’iaut

All of those are from a very different time in the series. The 2D, line fighting, limited voice work. Would not look well against the expectations post-Abyss and especially post-Graces. Even Symphonia will take a bit of getting used to for some folks.

Of those only the original version of ToD came stateside. Our ToD2 was Eternia, which was released in Euro PSP form as Eternia but retaining the US PS1 voicework.

      • Well, it would be cool to see Destiny Director’s Cut getting a re-release + localization in the future. The 2D line fighting has always intrigued me, but it has sadly never come to western territories (well, Tales of Phantasia for the GBA, but its quality is debatable… oh yeah, there’s also Eternia, but it’s PSP-only and it hasn’t been released on the European PSN store iirc).

        • M’iau M’iaut

Phantasia is just a port programmed so poorly that few want to struggle thought it. ToD and Eternia were always all about how obscenely high you could get the combo meter after forcing the action to the monster’s edge of the field.

      • AaqibRawat

The 2D line of fighting was always my favourite.
I also love the 2d sprites.

Id like more tales games or re releases of games that never came out.

      • Symbol de Au

Yeah I played Dawn of the New World first and had a hard time adjusting to nearly everything in the first game…I’ve still only played these two tales games though.

  • fireemblembeast

I wonder if they’ll use the JP openings now. As for DA…well, I don’t want to think about that now, so I’m going to import it day one and be done with it. I’ll get the western version too, don’t get me wrong. Also, I hope there is actually “HD” in this…we’ll have to wait and see. I mean, I don’t see why not. Maybe they don’t have anything to show us yet…

  • Pockystix

Ain’t it grand when a developer you like does something really cool?

    . . . still waiting on you Square = w =

  • personablaze

I-I..I am to hype to type O_O..

  • Michael Connell

Hope the Symphonia skits are fully voiced…also hope they’re able to get the same voice actors

    • Spirit Macardi

Probably not, considering many of the original VAs have since gone union. And Namco NEVER gets union actors for their dubs.

      • Michael Connell

Oh well, considering how good the dub cast for the Tales releases have been since Abyss I’m sure the new VAs will fit the roles just fine

  • fireemblembeast

Baba-san pulled a Lloyd on us:
Rumors: Symphonia remake is so happening
    Fans: Really? :)
    Baba-san: It’s actually a false rumor
    Fans: Oh… okay :(
    Baba-san: I lied. It’s a true rumor

It’s only fitting that he would do that for this…

    • HerosLight

This is the BEST way to remember this announcent.

  • Spirit Macardi

Well, this is surprising! Did they actually secure the rights to Symphonia 1’s translation from Nintendo? Though even if they did, that translation doesn’t cover the new stuff that was added.

It’d be funny if they used the existing dub for the old stuff, but the new cast for the added things. So as a result you’d hear Lloyd’s voice switching between Robin from Teen Titans and Takato from Digimon Tamers x3

I hope for Symphonia 2 they put the original opening music back in. Seriously, that low-key orchestral crap from the first English release was nothing compared to “Three-Legged Race” from the Japanese version.

    • MrRobbyM

I’m the opposite. The orchestral opening for the English release was perfect and holds many great memories for me.

Hopefully they’ll have the option for both :)

      • Spirit Macardi

Sure you aren’t talking about Symphonia 1? That one had an orchestral opening as well, but it was pretty good since it was powerful enough to capture the epic feel of what was going on. Symphonia 2’s though feels like some random royalty-free music that they shoehorned in to save money.

        • MrRobbyM

I’m talking about the first Symphonia.

Sometimes I forget DotNW exists, my bad lol. I thought you were talking about the first Symphonia. Oops.

  • MrRobbyM

PLEASE TELL ME THIS WILL RELEASE ON DISC OF THE WEST. I will buy this shit up asap

    • Considering it will be releasing right at the beginning of PS4’s life… uh… it might?

      • Compared to the Wii, the PS3 is still full of life. I can expect the PS3 library expending till around the beginning of 2015/2016, so we still have a year or 2/3 to go. Especially, when you consider how much criticism the PS4 is currently getting.

        • I’d say that is probably true to an extent, and what criticism has the PS4 been getting? O-o I’ve only read stuff about eh Xbox One.

          • Well, from what I’ve heard, the PS4 lacks absolute backwards compatibility, your digital games you’ve bought on the PSN won’t be transferred to your PS4 and iirc there is still some discussion going on about used games or something like that. All in all, it’s not really something a lot of gamers would love to see. Granted, the Wii U isn’t doing pretty well itself but it’s doing a better job imo. At the very least it has backwards compatibility for Wii games and it’s getting more some awesome content within these upcoming two years.
The PS4 will have a rusty start at the very least, so compared to Wii, the PS3 will live on much longer.

          • Well the backwards compatibility is obviously an issue. I never heard about the PSN thing but that sounds bad. I am sure used games will be fine on the PS4. So meh. The Wii U’s backwards compatibility sucks because WIi controls still suck. BUt as for actual Wii U games yes there are a couple that are going to be good that are confirmed and there will be more announced that will also hopefully be good too.

I don’t see Namdai giving Tales a digital-only release. What have they given a digital-only release besides the Pirate Warriors games anyway?

      • MrRobbyM

I’m just saying because it’s not a new Tales game. I’m sure we’ll get a physical release but I also see a chance for digital.

        • Solomon_Kano

Even though it’s not new, Namdai hasn’t done digital-only releases for anything other than OP. They haven’t given us any reason to believe they’d start here.

Beyond that, the only company whose done a digital-only release of an HD collection in the West is Capcom.

I mean, if even Project X Zone is getting a physical release…

        • Ladius

Those games will probably get a digital release, but if they follow Graces f’s example it will be a long while after the physical edition’s release in order to avoid damaging its sales.

My feels for this are all out of place since i play Tos1(gaemcube) on Wii 2 years ago or so… now the thought of playing it again.. I WILL CHOOSE ZELOS next time i play this~! (Im sowwy kratos-san Zelos needs love too.)

  • What

  • Ravage27

I’m shocked honestly, wasn’t expecting to get it so soon. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come :D

  • Nitraion

Early 2014 we get this on Q2 or Q3 we get Xillia 2 that will be great…

  • Rocket D

I am so happy that not only does this HD pack exist but also because it will be for NA and Europe! And not to far off, what a relief. Yet another HD pack to add to my list of games to buy.

Hmm, people are surprised about this announcement of it releasing outside Japan but to be honest this it’s was inevitable that a ToS remake would make it overseas. ToS was a very popular title (even if the sequel was not as much) outside Japan and it’s guaranteed success. What surprises me is that it’s for the PS3. At least for America since Nintendo translated the game before does that mean there will be new translations buy Sony for this release? Does that guarentee more content since Sony never re-releases or ports a game without it? And will this guarentee the PS2 version of ToS?

    • – They’re using the PS2 version of Symphonia for HD Remake Collection.
      – The PS3 has become pretty much the console for Tales games, and let’s not forget that Namco Bandai has a long history with Sony compared to Nintendo.
      – We’ll see how the translation process be done.

I really doubt they will leave the skits unvoiced this time

  • I’m sorry. I-I’m just so happy *sniffle* I really wasn’t expecting this. So glad to hear it!

great news i wonder if we will get xillia 2 in 2014 as well that would make this even more epic.

    • Ladius

I Imagine Xillia 2 fully depends on Xillia’s sales, we can only hope it’s a success and it’s able to justify its sequel’s localization.

  • ShadowDivz

This is what got me into the Tales of Series.
I remember being that young boy going through puberty. Nearly lost it when i saw Sheena.
…For obvious reasons i used her on the world map.

    • CirnoLakes

And this is why I know that I wasn’t that same “boy who went through puberty” as other boys.

Sheena/Shiina is an interesting character. I definitely have a lot of respect for her like a lot of the heroes in Tales of Symphonia. But never once in my childhood did I have an “oh my god boobs” moment.

Pretty much all of my interest in Shiina is her personality and characterization.

Also, Tales of Symphonia doesn’t seem like a good game for gawking at boob/curves with.

      • ShadowDivz

It isn’t. But like i said, pubertus.
Seeing “Shiina” is so weird for me. Cause i always see it spelled “Sheena”.
But yeah, once i grew out of the “HOLY FUCK,TITTIES!” phase, I just liked her cause she looked cool and was a good character. Plus i love that hairstyle if hers.

  • HerosLight
  • Ouch My Head Said Dionysus

I hope they update the character designs from the first game to modern Tales standard. I tried playing it again recently and it has not aged well in that department.

  • BadenBadenPrinny

    (Translation: Oh, hell yeah)

  • isfuturebright

Wow :O Wasn’t expect that to happen any time soon! It’s funny cause I just finished ToS KoR last week :D I think that will be a great opportunity for those that didn’t play it yet.
