Metal Gear Solid Art Director Says Original Snake Is Still His Favourite

By Ishaan . June 14, 2013 . 9:00am

Metal Gear Solid series art direct Yoji Shinkawa says that, after all this time, the Solid Snake from the first Metal Gear Solid game is still his favourite, as that was the first major character he created.

Aside from Snake, Shinkawa’s other favourite character is the Cybor Ninja. He mentions this and a few other tidbits pertaining to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain in the video above.

I love his art style! And yes Original Snake and Cyborg Ninja are still my favorite.

Actually I like the MGS Snake better. With his MGS voice actor.

Yeah, hope that means Kojima didn’t forget what he said about making a new MGS starring Solid Snake in the future. I love Big Boss, but Snake only got one true game for himself.

Two games were so old that they’re pretty much irrelevant now (MG, MG2), and another game where he only appeared in the prologue (MGS2), and a game where he was dying (MGS4).

I want a game with MGS1’s Snake. He was the character that made me fall in love with the series, and I would love to see him back as the main character again.

I feel like they should combine MG1 and MG2 into one remade spectacle where both Hayter’s Snake and Sutherland’s Big Boss get their spotlight and the series is finally brought to a full circle.

This, also MGS V is cronologically very close to MG1 , unless they make another game starring Big Boss, it’s the only way for the franchise to go.

Why are Metal Gear 1 and 2 irrelevant? The NES version of Metal Gear sucks (even more then Snake’s Revenge imo…) but the MSX games and Ghost Babel are among my favorite Metal Gear games. Together with the first MGS (the PSX version, not the unbalanced Twin Snakes), they still have similar gameplay (although MGS is in 3d of course, but other then that fact… they still play alike).

Snake Eater and Guns of the Patriots where just too unfocused and non-linear, that I had to push myself through them to finish them (Loved the boss fights for both, but other then that… meh to grand in scope). MGS2 didn’t intrique me as much… dunno it was the weak boss team mostly. Still have to do Portable Ops, Peace Walker and the Acid games…

But honestly my favorite Metal Gear title of all time is Metal Gear Rising.

As long as they keep Hayter for Solid Snake and Keifer for Big Boss then it makes sense

      Less less sense, yes.

    It’s all about Raiden anyway!

I like Big Boss the best

  • Remake for the PS4 of both of the original MG titles would be GOLDEN right about now, i mean a FULL remake, noen of this msx post stuff :)
