DreadOut, The Horror Game Inspired By Fatal Frame, Is Funded

By Ishaan . June 20, 2013 . 9:00am

Remember DreadOut, the indie horror game inspired by Fatal Frame? We reported on it last month, providing a brief introduction to the game and a link to a playable demo that one could try out.

DreadOut has achieved two things since we last talked about it—first, it’s managed to achieve (and exceed) its crowdfunding goal, which means that the developers should now have a little less to worry about in the finance department.

Second, it’s managed to get enough votes on Steam Greenlight, which will ensure that the game is available on Steam once it’s eventually released.

While DreadOut has no release date yet, its developers, Digital Happiness, hope to have the game out by November 2013. In the meantime, here are a few screens:

  • The-Beast

Cool, I really liked the demo. Looking forward to it.

  • rurifan

It could use a more charming character model. :(

  • Gilgamesh2025

And another PC only game …

    • Doctor Nebula

Which is a good thing right? Consoles get so many exclusives already, why not let PC get some. Plus, it’s the cheapest platform.

    • Odin

Hey, you have to leave something for the PC gamers out there. And it’s not a problem if you’ve been exposed to both. I find having a system bias leaves you with fewer unique experiences, so I try not to limit myself. That’s why you get comfortable with both a controller and a mouse and keyboard.

I don’t think its so much about excluding consoles as it is about being easier to develop for and release on PC. I’m sure if a console manufacturer were to approach the dev they would release this game on any platform they can.

    • DyLaN

Most doujins/indie game/VN get their start at the PC.

    • Yan Zhao

Why is that bad? Most console owners should have a PC already.

  • CirnoTheStrongest

    Nice!
I’ll be sure to get it on Steam~

  • Crimson_Cloud

This game scared the hack out of me. As a fan of Fatal Frame I definitely look forward to the final product. ^^

  • Ashley Patrick

Iv’e loved fatal frame for a long time now, but im shocked this game can scare the living crap out of me. I for one can’t wait to buy it when it comes out, then stop playing since i can’t sleep at night <3 so happy!

  • Sergio Briceño

Oh yes! I’m going to go through the demo again tonight at midnight. MUAHAHAHA!

  • Bob Obb

Awesome, and fuck Tecmo for killing this series by giving it to Nintendo.

    • Colonel Custard

What? Dreadout has nothing to do with Tecmo. It was inspired by fatal frame it isn’t fatal frame.

      • residenteviloutbreak

        DUH.

    • 324234

Don’t give up hope! The WiiU’s Gamepad is the -perfect- controller for a Fatal Frame game!
Oh, who am I kidding. Spirit Camera was /awful/ and they even butchered the localization of it. :/

      • supervamp

Last time i checked the whole series had janky controls

  • anarchy_panty

You know, I voted for this on Greenlight and donated to the indiegogo, but I still haven’t actually played the demo.

  • Umar Fong Wong

the demo was great, really loved it!

  • Aristides

Give us a Vita version :P

  • residenteviloutbreak

Hope to see this hit the Playstation network for PS4. Instant buy when i get the PS4.
