Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster Will Have A Limited Edition

By Ishaan . June 25, 2013 . 12:15am

An ad on indicates that Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster is going to have a limited edition of some sort. Here’s the ad in question:

If you look below the art for the game, it says “Pre-order to receive your free limited edition upgrade”. While GameStop says a limited edition will be available, Square Enix haven’t announced a limited edition… yet.

One wonders just what the limited edition could contain. The Yuna costume for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, perhaps? Some sort of physical bonus, like a soundtrack CD? Or perhaps Square Enix plan to deliver content like Last Mission for Final Fantasy X-2 as DLC. They’ve been a little cagey as to whether that content will be present in the game or not.

Note that the pre-order notice appears to depend on where in the world you are. Non-U.S. residents may not see the same message.

  • JustThisOne

A limited edition, huh? Maybe it’s a steel box or something.

  • Anime10121

Its probably gonna be the same as the KH1.5HDR LE upgrade, a small art book.

  • Gustav Nyberg

They did say during the Square Enix Presents interview that they had to call back the voice-actors for some parts of the HD Remaster, but they wouldn’t say which part. Since everything else was flawless (at least for being a 2001/2003 game) I’d say the only thing that could need new voice-acting is the English translated Last Mission.

    • Sardorim

Think they remastered the laughing scene? I think the game will be better overall if they can somehow laugh with even more feeling. It seems impossible I know as that laugh was golden but it could platinum!

      • SerendipityX

*sigh* That laughing scene was forced on purpose. I’m beginning to think no one was paying attention to the story in FFX.

        • Nanaki

Exactly. Tidus and Yuna even looked at each other and acknowledged how silly they were acting.

          • Gustav Nyberg

Agreed. They would ruin one of the most memorable moments of FFX if they re-recorded it. I’m still hoping for Last Mission.

          • Sardorim

That kind of thinking is why people are afraid of improvement because there are those that always stand by that the “Original” is better even when it may not be thus improvements aren’t made when they could because of that flawed thinking.

Change your closed minded way of thinking as should all the others agreeing with you upon their misinterpretation of what I said.

And people wonder why those in the gaming Industry fear to innovate and just release the same thing year after year.

          • This IS the same thing from over 10 years ago…

          • whatinthewolrd

            Gurl…. wrong topic.

          • Sardorim

You act as if I don’t know that. Quite sad.

        • Steven Lamphere

THANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOU THANK YOU! Finally someone else realizes this! I’m really getting sick of people throwing crap at the laughing scene when it was OBVIOUS they were laughing like that on purpose!

          • Sardorim

The laughing scene is memorable because it’s bad. The joke though has flown over the heads of you and everyone else that commented on it. Pity that you would ruin such a thing.

          • FitzpatrickPhillips

The laughing scene is SUPPOSED to be that way. How are they supposed to re-record that scene and keep the same meaning? If they laugh with more feeling, the scene wont make sense.

            What aren’t you getting?

        • Astraye

I’ve loved that laughing scene !

          • Sardorim

            You imply I didn’t.

        • OneOkami

Thank you. I sincerely have to *sigh* every time someone criticizes that scene when in reality they just completely missed the point of it.

          • Sardorim

As you just did now? You should sigh more often than.

          • Kitestwinblades

The laugh itself wasn’t even funny to me until they showed the party members reaction or when Yuna joined it. Even worse, they follow it up with real laughter. Its completely misunderstood.

          • Pyrotek85

Exactly, the fact that it was followed with real laughter makes it even more obvious that the ‘bad’ part was forced laughter and done on purpose. I can’t believe that there is any confusion with this scene, it’s really not that complicated. The only way it can be taken wrong is if it’s viewed out of context by someone who hasn’t seen the whole thing.

        • Pyrotek85

It’s almost like no one has actually played the game.

          • Sardorim

That’s a bold statement that you cannot back up. Get off the hate wagon already, you misinterpreted what I said completely.

          • Pyrotek85

I wasn’t even replying to you, I was making a general statement. And yes, from the comments they often make it really does seem like many of them haven’t played the game or even watched the full scene.

          • Uso Ewin

It’s worse when people complain about “emo” Cloud in FF7.

          • Ric Vazquez

            I know that feeling dude

        • Sardorim

You clearly misunderstood what I was saying.

          • SerendipityX

Sorry if I came off condescending or something. What did you mean?

          • Ahris

Sardorim understands the intention of the scene. That doesn’t make the VO good though.

          • SerendipityX

I think maybe Sardorium should’ve worded it better and not mentioned the laughing scene as an example. Besides I’d say the VO was decent for its time.

          • Pyrotek85

That’s the thing, I think a lot of people forget this was made in a time where voice acting in games was still fairly new. They just didn’t have the same standards as we do today.

        • Sylveria

The point of the scene was Yuna telling Tidus how she needs to fake being happy and fake laughing for the sake of others. The whole point of what she was talking about, and the point of the scene, was how she had to smile and laugh >>convincingly<< even when she's depressed or whatever.

If the scene was written well and the voice acting was directed better, it would have actually been a rather uncomfortable scene as these two people share how they have to put on this mask of happiness during really dark times, ignoring their own feelings, so they could inspire hope in others. Instead, it's a joke and it's a joke on multiple levels from the absurdity of the scene to the obvious ignorance of the events actually occurring on the part of the fanboys defending it by saying that people who criticize the laugh just didn't get it. Is that the go-to excuse for Square Enix these days? The games are flawless, the only dissenters are haters and people who "didn't get it"? Cause that's the same crap I hear out of the FF13 defender camp.

I don't know what bizarre social development issues people must have if they can look at that scene and say "Yep, that's how you pretend to laugh alright." I hope they're never in a position where they need to fake laughing at their boss' jokes sometime and bust out a HA. HA. HA. HA.

          • Steven Higgins

True, but Tidus was the one who started the fake laughing. He hadn’t had as much practice as Yuna, so of course he wasn’t good at it. Yuna, even though she had the practice, decided to mimic Tidus. I’ve tried to fake laughing before, anf the first time was just as awful.

        • Lol
          Biggest misconception of FFX…

        • I was about to point this out, ye know yer stuff Seren!

        • Wesley Kenneth Houpt Mattingly

Still sounds bad in Japanese, LMAO!

      • revenent hell

Ok, its been quite some years since ive played this game and ive been trying my hardest to remember some aweful laugh sequence….. and as far as I can recall everything seemed to be in its place.
Exacty what scene are people refering to?

Edit: Nevermind. I personally viewed the scene as “laughing” in place of “screaming” wich made sense in way because back then I did a lot of stuff in place of crying and venting out.
I suppose it depends upon the viewer but I saw it in a totally different light than some and found it perfectly in place of the game

        • Pyrotek85

When everyone is leaving Lucca, after the blitzball game and boss fight.

    • What laughing scene??

      • revenent hell

I just googled FFX laughing scene and it showed me the scene I remember. It honestly didnt come across to me like “bad laugh acting” so it was hard for me to figure out….

    • the9reen9uy

Maybe they called them back to fill in what was missing from the original NTSC release.. Like all of the extended stuff in the international version

  • Mister_Nep

Most likely it’s going to be the same limited edition as Kingdom Hearts HD is getting. Same company after all.

Also, it’s ridiculous to think they’re gonna DLC the last mission content. It’s simple. This is the only part that actually requires new voice acting. They probably already have a specific release window in mind so they’re putting off an answer at the last minute, because they have no idea if they have the time to HD that part AND get a brand spanking new recording session with the VAs. If they have confirmation that it’s possible then they’ll announce the last mission content will be on the disc. If they can’t then they never promised it’ll be on there to begin with so they don’t have to backpedal anything they said. It’s simple business.

    • Sylveria

I think it’s cute you believe they wouldn’t lock Last Mission off as DLC when the entire bridging storyline that links FF13-2 and 13-3 was DLC.

      • Mister_Nep

Problem with that argument. That’s a new game. That’s new game tactics, because the people of this day and age will buy it for games of this generation.

This is a game of yesteryear. Yesteryear doesn’t work like that. They have to factor in the cost it takes to take away the content, program it as a downloadable add-on, host it on whatever servers the DLC will be on, and hope that enough people of yesteryear will pay for it to justify doing it in the first place.

This won’t sell on the same level as any of the FF13 games. Turning Last Mission into DLC, which is an UNPOPULAR GAME TO BEGIN WITH, is just a bad business decision.

        • Edzo04

yesteryear being rereleased thisyear could very well mean dlc

  • badmoogle

I wonder if they are going to include the extras (making of,Suteki Da Ne video clip) from the original release of FFX.

  • Sango

When I first played FFX, Tidus voice never really bothered me, that and I didn’t notice because the game was so. I recently watched a FFX video and yeah… I might have to play with the game on mute,

  • Sweet, it’ll be nice to have a limited edition of these two.

    • Off topic and my PS3 is dead till the 27th , are you getting FFXIV ARR?

Oh and awesome Kotori avatar ^^

      • Damn, sorry about your PS3. Yes I will be getting ARR. I actually already pre-ordered it lol. In the beta and loving it as well. Would love to party up with you sometime =)

Thanks, I loved this face that she made and wanted to use it lol =P

        • Ya it sucks but hopefully the new firmware takes care of it.

Sweet! you wanna play on the same server at launch?

Lol nice, think it was after the roller coaster ride XD

          • Sure, although my other friends and I aren’t sure what server we were going to play on as well yet lol.

Yeah, I can’t wait for the second season of Date A Live. That preview looked so cool. So hyped! =^_^=

          • That’s fine just lemme know on PSN

            Ya ^ ^ I need more Kurumi :3

          • Will do =)

          • Thanks! ^o^

  • $36598391

I hope the Vita versions will get Limited Editions and the Kingdom Hearts HD will get Vita versions of the two

  • SunOatBoatMatadorQuattro

It would be awesome if it came with this CD

  • Randgriz

Special box, postcards, selected soundtrack and maybe a discount code for something in the future.

  • Haseyo

I never turn down bonus goodies when it comes to Final Fantasy.

  • karasuKumo

I hope Square Enix UK decide to actually make an effort with their limited edition for this. *glances over at the XIII collectors edititon*

I think the problem they have is keeping it affordable but they cut back on quality in the process. I’d pay more for something more worthwhile. The best collectors edition I’ve seen this year was the Ni no Kuni one, that was fantastic :D.

    • Edzo04

they dont get much better than the wizards edition

  • Sydney Losstarot

To pre-order bonuses I say this, Dilly Dally shilly shally!

  • AuraGuyChris

The limited edition comes bundled with desktops that have Tidus on them, all in glorious HD.

  • Trinity

What I would like to know is when can I preorder the Vita versions of these games. You’ve been able to preorder the PS3 versions forever, but not the PS Vita ones.

  • Nightmare637

seems like they’ve taken the message down(U.S resident) If there is a limited edition I’m putting my money on an artbook like KH.

  • Robert Hendrie

It will just be an art book like KH 1.5 is getting

  • Albert Halves

Hopefully it comes with the Vita version.

  • edomon007

im hoping for either an artbook or a steel case as limited edition

  • the9reen9uy

Say the word steelbook and TAKE MY MONEY!

  • Ed

Does that mean my pre-order will be upgraded to a limited edition but at the price of a regular edition? Because it said “Free limited edition upgrade”

  • Tony SansNom

I don’t understand why they want to remake these…

    • Nightmare637

money? people wanted it? why woulden’t they?

  • artemisthemp

I hope soon Square Enix tell, what the Limited Edition contains.
