Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster Will Have International Edition Content

By Ishaan . July 12, 2013 . 3:00pm

Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster will include content from the game’s International edition, Square Enix have confirmed. However, the publisher has not announced if the Last Mission bonus dungeon from Final Fantasy X-2 will be included as well.

Producer Yoshinori Kitase and Motomu Toriyama confirmed the feature on the PlayStation EU community site (via: Polygon), mentioning that the games will feature content that was previously only available in specific regions.

The International edition of Final Fantasy X includes bonus features like Dark Aeons, bonus boss battles, and a 14-minute video clip, titled “Eternal Calm,” which bridges the story of Final Fantasy X and its sequel Final Fantasy X-2. Regarding the Last Mission, Square told Polygon in May that its inclusion would be dependent on disc capacity.

Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster will be released later this year for PlayStation 3 and as two separate games for PlayStation Vita. Square Enix recently announced a limited edition release for the PS3 version.

Update: Kitase mentioned the possibility of Last Mission’s inclusion in a separate interview, and we’ve updated our report to reflect this.

That’s okay, it was boring anyways.

  • Smooosh

    I’m cool with that. :)
What are the chances of a retail-release for the vita version? Did they confirm something about that? The two being sold separately smells like digital-only, and I don’t want to buy another memory card. Can’t afford those atm. :/

    • Zendervai

Probably retail. It’s Square Enix. They rarely if ever do digital only releases.

  • James

They’ll probably release it as DLC to milk people.

    • Ehren Rivers

The same interview mentioned in the above article confirms they have no plan to create or upload any DLC components for X|X-2 HD.

    • AuraGuyChris

Impossible, as the content is already in the game, and they KNOW it’ll infuriate fans if this even happens at all.

  • Storm

This article is a tad misleading. The source at Polygon says Last Mission is still under consideration, while on here it implies that it’s definitely out.

    • Nanaki

      Can someone confirm this?

      • Storm
        • Nanaki

That’s great, thank you for the direct link (I was on a mobile device and it was having issues.)

I’m glad to see that they’re at least trying or have tried to work Last Mission into the game.

          • Total_Overdose

Yup. The fact they are still trying and haven’t come out and officially said “no” gives me hope. Hell, I’d even pay for it as DLC if they go that route (since it seems that disc space is the main problem). Wasn’t there a rumor a few months ago that all the international content was going to be DLC anyway?

          • Pyrotek85

I don’t even know how disc space could be an issue, a single layer BD is like 3 times the size of a dual layer DVD.

          • Nanaki

Well they do plan to include both games on one disc for the PS3 (as well as the 30-minute long after story).

          • Pyrotek85

Yeah, but even if both games took a full dual layer DVD (no idea if they did), that’s still less than 16gb used out of 25gb single layer BD. There’s no way that a single dungeon will take another 8gb or so.

Maybe the cards for the Vita version won’t be big enough, or there is some other issues they’re not mentioning, but I really doubt the size of BD discs is a factor. Even most PS3 games aren’t filling up a single BD layer, and I’m not aware of any that need a second.

          • Nanaki

They said disc capacity may be an issue.
In any case I would like to have it included as well, but it’s understandable to some extent why they wouldn’t be able to regularly.

          • BlitzWhat

Consider the fact that all the FMV and textures will be clocking in at much higher file sizes than on the original discs due to the higher resolution and you have an explanation for storage becoming an issue.

          • Pyrotek85

But would both games really be near 25gb? Textures aren’t that big. Compare that to the disc sizes of the larger PS3 games, and the install sizes of current PC games. Heck, the 360 has still been using DVDs, and as I said even two dual layer DVDs is still less than a BD.

          • voymasa

You’ve also got to consider the increased poly count for the 3D models, not just the textures (higher poly count equals better images).

          • $1484028

it could be storage space relative to the Vita.

one of the few things Kitase has been fairly specific about is that other than the splitting of X and X-2 into separate titles for the Vita, the two versions (PS3/PSV X and PS3/PSV X-2) are to be exactly the same.

that was his specific reasoning for why there won’t be dual-audio despite the larger disc space of the blu-ray. PS3 version could hold it, but the Vita’s version could not.

          • Pyrotek85

That’s what I was suspecting, the response just might be poorly translated/worded. I believe the Vita game cards can hold a pretty good amount, but it might be cost prohibitive, especially for a remaster.

      • Ehren Rivers

Last Mission was not explicitly mentioned in the original interview this and the Polygon article are based off of. The HD version of Final Fantasy X was said to be “exactly the same” as the original European release of Final Fantasy X, which included the International content. X-2 HD was mentioned as having its International features, but the only one mentioned by name was the Creature Create system.

The last time ‘Last Mission’ was discussed, Square Enix said they considered it to be a separate game from X-2 but would consider it for possible inclusion.

        • Storm

Ugh it looks like you’re right. This is so confusing. x_x

          • Nanaki

I believe they meant the original interview, not the one from this article.

          • Ehren Rivers

That was in the POLYGON article, not the original interview which I was talking about.

EDIT: The Polygon article also specifically states their information on Last Mission comes from a statement to THEM by Square Enix sometime in May.

          • Storm

So basically, Last Mission was still under consideration in May, but today they’ve confirmed that International content will be in, but never said whether they decided on Last Mission being in or not? So there’s still hope.

          • Ehren Rivers

There’s still hope, yes. My point was more that “International content” doesn’t actually confirm or deny the inclusion of Last Mission because Square Enix considers it a separate game and NOT an addition to an existing game.

  • http://epiclyamazing.wordpress.com/ AzureNova

Finally a bit of confirmation on this.

  • SunOatBoatMatadorQuattro

Yeaahhh! I already played the International content from the PAL version though…

In this version of FF10 obtaining Tidus’ Ult Weapon is harder since a Super Boss is guarding the area. After defeating the “3 phase Boss” from Zanarkand I already have to pick up the item for Tidus’ weapon.

I don’t care about Last Mission since its bosses are recycled and with little context but I guess this means there will not be a redub.

  • Wappuli

I just hope that those capturable creatures could be manually controlled this time instead of AI handling things, if not all monsters then atleast those new characters.
But I’m pretty sure they aren’t.

  • vileBrenman

Hope final mission makes it in.. But i guess i can make do with the festival and psychic dress spheres.

  • safeto20scroll

So the problem is possibly not having enough space in the PS3 edition to include the Last Mission… what about the Vita versions? They’re both separate cartridges anyway. Anyone heard about this yet?

    • School Idol Addict

If it’s a capacity problem it’s most likely the Vita that’s the problem and not the PS3.
PS3 disc have a capacity of 50GB and Vita cartridge only 4GB.

      • Musashi234

I Thought a Vita” Max Capacity is 8gbs? I might be thinking about the 3DS.

        • School Idol Addict

Right now it’s 4GB, but Sony might change that to 8GB in the future if needed.

  • Ronaldo

I sick and tired of them not releasing any news on the vita versions like price for example.

  • Vesperion

Blu-Ray Discs don’t have infinite space? But seriously if it really is a size problem, then Square must be considering the Vita version as well

  • Letiumtide

As I am not a fan in the slightest of Final Fantasy X, the only thing I am wondering is if it will have dual audio, as I consider X to have some of the worst voice acting video games have to offer. I actually very rarely care whether or not a game has Japanese available, but I think X needs it.

    • StarWarudo

I haven’t played X in about six or seven years but I don’t remember the voices being anywhere as atrocious as so many people here claim. o.o

      • Letiumtide

It’s always been a roadblock for me, but the truth is I have never cared for X regardless of it. It’s just that to me it has really obnoxious overacting more than acting. (I’ll get down-voted, I just straight-up hate X, but I’d give it a second shot to see if not having those voices changed my mind on it, or at least made it palatable.)

    • Nanaki

In the Square-Enix E3 Press Conference interview they confirmed that there will not be dual-audio for the NA release.

      • Letiumtide

Ah, that’s so unfortunate. I guess I’ll be passing on it afterall. Thanks for clearing that up for me!

    • brian

      Have you heard them?
A lot of people, me included, think they’re a downgrade.
      THAT SCENE, both versions.

“Don’t break your speakers. There’s no crow, just a Tidus.”

    • Haseyo

I can’t imagine Wakka without his English voice, nor Auron. I love the English VA for this game. One laughing scene does not suddenly make it horrible. It was MEANT to be horrible. He laughed like that on purpose.

  • StarWarudo

We still don’t have a blasted release date, do we? AARRRGH!

  • Kaihedgie

    YES

  • http://www.angelmassb.co.nr/ Angel Mass

Dang it, just give me the new dresspheres thats all

    • Haseyo

I really, really want Psychic. That dressphere looks so intense.

  • Unlimax

    Wai-..

does that mean we will face Penance and the other secret bosses again !!

    Sweet ~

  • AlexanderPappas

Sony should have begged for a vita only release. They can’t keep having ps3 and psvita games if they want to sell more vitas.

  • Gilgamesh2025

    Oooh, yeah! :D

  • Tom

Everyone was really onto this info for some time, what took them so long to answer it!? They wasn’t sure they can add it or it was just a tease?

  • Musashi234

Disc capacity?!?!?! A blu-ray disc can hold an easy 20gbs or 50gbs of space. Don’t give me that capacity bs!!!

    • Bloodios

Don’t forget the Vita (and its game card’s limited storage capacity) is also in the picture.

  • Bloodios

Eternal Calm is still a video?! Seriously, just make it render in real-time…

  • WhyWai

dependent on disc capacity? seriously? a 50GB blueray is not enough capacity?

  • TheTurtleHermit

Time to replay FFX in glorious HD with bonuses. Hell yeahs!!!
