Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster will have content from the Japan-only International editions and a brand new 30-minute long drama featuring the original voice actors. Square Enix shared a small sample of the drama, where Tidus talks a bit about his story with two new characters.

Tidus: “It’s been two years since Spira entered the Eternal Calm. I was given a new life. For an entire year, I was able to walk alongside Yuna. It was fun. It really was.”

Chuami : “Kurgum and I were walking around the Bevelle stadium road, formerly known as Mika Road. The stadium that should’ve been completed by now is still under construction, so I wonder if the tournament will actually take place here. If not, I wonder how the Spira council will take responsibility. Oh well, it doesn’t matter to me. I have nothing to do with it. The only issue for me is the large crowd ahead, and the star shining in the middle of it.”

Kurgum: “Hey Chiwami, not over there! We’re in a hurry.

Chuami: “I waited for you, so we might as well just show up late. Anyways, isn’t that Tidus?”

Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster will be released later this year for PlayStation 3 and as two separate games for PlayStation Vita.

Whoa, To Zanarkand. Thanks for the translation.

  • Suriel Cruz

Final Fantasy X-3… I call it!

    • LightGenx

Only Lightning gets that sort of treatment.

      • Nanaki

Hmm..I don’t know at this point. It almost seems like they’re starting a new trend of sequels for sequels.

        • https://twitter.com/GaleGlory89 KiQun

I hope Toriyama would stay out of this.

          • LightningFarron19

You do realize FF10 was the first game he directed after the Midgar Section of FF7, right? Of course he’s going to be part of FF10′s sequel.

          • SunOatBoatMatadorQuattro

I thought FF10 had three directors. FF102 had only Toriyama as director.

        • Barrylocke89

Remember when Final Fantasy X getting a sequel was a really big freaking deal? First FF game to get a direct sequel and all that?

          We’ve come a long way…

      • LightningFarron19

Zack Fair got that treatment too with Crisis Core: FF7

    • Heropon

Tidus return : Final Fantasy X . Maybe

      • SunOatBoatMatadorQuattro

I really don’t want any FF character getting this treatment. It would mean games without a party.

        • JuhRo

and with no parties.. there is no rum.
and with no parties, there is no fun.

Many companies would lead me to the same conclusion. Writing and voicing (with original voice talent even!) and localizing a whole 30 minute drama just for an HD remaster release seems excessive. Surely this sort of investment into the brand is evidence that there’s more to come? That they’re trying to lay groundwork for something like a FF X-3?

But that’s not how Square Enix rolls. They lavish their games with ridiculous amounts of money. I totally believe that they would do all that just for an HD remaster.

      • whatinthewolrd

        Pretty much.

      • kenshee

Uhm, how exactly do you mean? The only other ps3 remaster I know of from them is kingdom hearts 1.5 and the inevitable 2.5 coming later.
1.5 got more attention than you’d expect from these type of things but it’s also become clear why that is so: kingdom hearts 3 was announced.

Sure, in some of the ports and remakes of older games they’ve put a decent budget on them, but that’s mostly to ensure fans will see a point to getting the new version of the game.

So while I don’t disagree that SE tends to give projects very nice budgets, I don’t fully agree with your claim that they don’t function like other companies as regards to the remasters leading to a new installment. Of course, kingdom hearts 3 was inevitable and is only one example, but still.

      • carlospsp

Maybe they are preparing this same HD rerelease for PS4/XONE looking toward a new FFX

      • nomad

Final Fantasy IV also had two additional parts added to it. I think they just like adding little bits and pieces to their games.

    • João Madalena

Actually, there were plans for a Final Fantasy X-3 but because the reception to FFX-2 was lukewarm, they didn’t go through with it so it’s possible but highly unlikely.

    • Farid Belkacemi

      You’re like… Several months late ! :D

    • Yan Zhao

Wheres my Terra Returns: FF VI at?

      • SunOatBoatMatadorQuattro

Terra in the IV universe would really make Square look desperated.

        • Yan Zhao

          Oops, VI, lolz.

      • http://gamgambit.tumblr.com/ Thespian Treasure Hunter ♢

Not sure how that would work, magic ceased to exist in VI in the ending.

    • Sweet Sui ♥

I’m… not really sure if I’d want to see an X-3. X is my favorite Final Fantasy, but X-2… eh, I didn’t care for it. One part of me is curious to see if they could redeem themselves with another entry… the other part would rather not see it happen. Ever ^_^”” lol.

  • Nanaki

These new characters leave me with more questions than answers.

  • http://LevelUpGeneration.blogspot.com/ KALiverin

    Remember this?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vkOHcImHBmw

They could easily be using this to tease a new game. It’s not the first time they’ve done it. FFVII got compilation treatment. They probably could do the exact same thing for FFX if they wanted.

Now, I would HOPE they make a new game, but Square-Enix has been massively trolling lately, so I won’t get my hopes up too much. It could just be something to close the story for good or something.

    • JuhRo

Braska, Jecht, and Auron prequel on Vita.

  • Syed Sameer Rahman

The characters never really mentioned Tidus’ real name at any point in the two games. Makes you wonder why a character would take the name now…

    • SunOatBoatMatadorQuattro

Because they realized it was really dumb. Remember when they saw Shuyin’s footage in FF10-2? “It’s him? It could be him. It looks like him.” Way to confuse.

      • Syed Sameer Rahman

Yeah, and it only took em like 10 years to realise…

      • Nanaki

I absolutely agree. Ever since X and the beginning of voice acting it began to seem more like a burden that they wouldn’t put a name behind the character for others to refer to. It made no sense (other than to sell Tidus’ name for donations on Let’s Plays/Speedruns, but that’s something else entirely ;)

        • Armyofoneix

          because you could name him

          • SunOatBoatMatadorQuattro

In FF10 you could name him but not in FF10-2. If you check the FF10-2′s database you will see his name is “????”

    • Pablo Sanchez

cause in the game yo can change the name , in the audio drama dont , same with dissidia

    • Aoshi00

Yeah, I don’t like MC not getting their names called either, like in most VNs, it would be just replaced by a “you” (and Jpn has a lot of yous.. or senpai, etc) or awkward silence.. Persona 4 was like that too, didn’t even have a name until in drama CD, then yet a diff name in the anime series..

And Tidus is actually pronounced “Tida” in Jpn too :) But this is actually the first time he’s called that, pretty historic, he’s like Voldemort he who should not be named or something.

anyway, can’t wait to replay both of these games in HD and listen to the rest of the new drama..

  • JuhRo

Braska, Jecht, and Auron prequel on Vita. (even though these lines point nothing towards the sort..)

(Two down votes…? O_o … Although… I said the same thing as a reply to a post up there… and it got 4 ups and 1 down… I is confuze)

    • Guest

      B, J, A, in position. It’s show time boys?
I’d rather not ever have to see that xD But kidding aside it would be interesting to have another prequel reminiscent of Crisis Core.

  • Steven Higgins

New characters? And Tidus was only with Yuna for a year? Oh boy. X-3 is looking more and more likely. I just hope it’s as good as the first two.

  • $61526767

Definitely look forward to seeing this drama scene. If there is a possible X-3… hard to say. Hope to complete this game, couldn’t complete the PS2 version.

  • AlexanderPappas

    FFX-3? FF10-3. FF10+3. FF13? FF13 confirmed.

  • Bunzi

What is it with the FF series’s aversion to characters with happy relationships?

    • SunOatBoatMatadorQuattro

If Tidus was serious with “It was fun. It really was” then lots of people will be super mad. But hey, at least they didn’t erase FF10-2′s ending with some time paradox.

  • Alestaos

So im guessing this leads to FFX-3 which is awesome loved both X/X-2, im giessing though if it is X-3 then it will still be out beforen XV. I hope Yuna is still in it if so because to me she emboys a very powerful female progtainst in a mostly male domiant game series. Eventhough Lightning has done her part to try and even the odds she cant compete against Yuna lol.

Are you ready for YRP Reborn xD

  • DCBlackbird

    dat amano logo :)

  • Ronldbx6

Liking the background pic, pretty hot.

  • Isaac Newton

I cried I just cried with happiness T_T…..
