A Horror Game Where You Play As A Two Year Old Child

By Ishaan . July 26, 2013 . 8:30am

Among the Sleep is a first-person horror game where you play as a two year old child. You wake up alone in your bed to strange things happening around your house. As you get out of bed and start to explore the world around you, you’ll make your way through environments that mix a child’s imagination with surreal dreams. The ultimate goal appears to be to find your parents.

Developer Krillbite Studio say that Among the Sleep will have no traditional combat or fighting whatsoever. Instead, there will be threats hiding in every shadow and you’ll need to find places in the environment to hide from them and avoid confrontation. (You are a two-year-old, after all.) Examples of this include hiding under furniture or in cupboards. While there will be certain puzzle elements to the game as well, the main focus is on exploration and horror.

Among the Sleep is slated for release on PC, Mac and Linux in late 2013. For anyone interested in the Oculus Rift VR device, the game will support that as well.

    Can’t have enough good horror-games. :)

    • Daru Titor

I did try the demo for this a couple months ago.
It was enjoyable.(I looked for it after a AH Rage Quit video)

“Among the Sleep will have no traditional combat or fighting whatsoever” I love it when a horror game does this~

    • EtroAnime

This makes a game very nerve racking for me!

    • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

This especially works since your protagonist is only 2 years old. I really hope they get creative with the shadowy figures you encounter.

    • GibbRS

Indeed. The helplessness you feel in Haunting Ground is what makes the game so intense.

      • KnifeAndFork

Also 2nd chapter Siren: Blood Curse (where you’re the little girl in the abandoned hospital)

And I would imagine Rule of Rose and Clock Tower series…

    • SlickRoach

Yeah, horror games are so much better and realistic when you can’t defend yourself.

  • Raze

I think this will be fun with oculus rift
No combat + Puzzle are plus point there…

  • Deidara19

This game sounds really dope! I’m usually not a fan of thiese type of games but this one really caught my attention! Will definitely be getting this for Mac!

  • Xillia

now that’s really special !! and I love the child sounds sooooooooooo cute !!!!! what a tough baby :p

  • abysswalker

Almost at the end of the Kickstarter they posted an Alpha build of the game. It’s still available on the site http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/krillbite/among-the-sleep/posts/480797

    • CirnoTheStrongest

thanks! didn’t know that was available

I cannot wait to piss my pants playing this with the Oculus Rift. I know it’s still probably too early to think this way, but the Oculus Rift is going to seriously change how immersive gaming will be.

    • Bunzi

The intrepid hero of the story will probably be soiling his undergarments along with you.

  • I hope you have to use a screwdriver to get out of the crib.

    • SlickRoach

      A baby’s gotta do what a baby’s gotta do.

    • almostautumn

It’s right next to his E-Trade Ipad

  • thats one skilled toddler being able to go downstairs sideways at that speed. judging by the description and teaser i get the feeling this will end up like slender having good atmosphere but overall will get old fast and ultimately have no point.
But im not one to shoot down original ideas, i’ve always wanted to see a survival horror game that starred a child, theres so much you can work with if you use a kid’s imagination

    • Neophoton

There’s always the original Clock Tower for SNES. Though, this game involves a toddler, so I suppose it’s a bit different.

      • Hmm I quite like that game yet always forget its existence, i dont know why maybe it was the artwork but i never thought as the protagonist of that game as a kid even though she clearly is

    • MXC

Actually something happened to the crib. I think the crib was being dragged in the beginning of the video right?

  • Raltrios

    Rage Quit, anyone?

  • Linhua

… hell yeah… Oculus Rift compatible… that’s exACTly what I was hoping would be mentioned by the end of this article.

… I will definitely be keeping an eye on this.

  • KnifeAndFork

two?? Cmon thats too young. At least 4 years old or something…

    • DCBlackbird

4 is when we finally become aware……. I guess they wanted us to play as someone unaware

  • FetusZero

Woah.. that game is still alive o_O Heard about it ages ago, subscribed to their newsletter way back then and never received anything, so I had completely forgotten it. Glad to see it’s on track for a 2013 release.

  • s07195

Twist: It’s based off a real experience. XD

Or at least let real 2 year olds watch you play this.

  • shaolinsword

A horror that game that makes you feel useless by taking away combat? Fantastic!

  • xxx128

    Suddenly… an original concept!
