Monster Hunter Frontier G Soaring Its Way To PlayStation 3 And Wii U

By Sato . July 30, 2013 . 6:25pm

Capcom’s online title, Monster Hunter Frontier G, which was previously available for PC and Xbox 360, will be released for PlayStation 3 and Wii U later this year, according to this week’s Famitsu magazine.

While the game requires monthly fees to play in Japan, the actual download will be available for free, and the physical copies will cost 6,090 yen.

Monster Hunter Frontier G is the upgraded version of Monster Hunter Frontier, featuring new monsters, areas, weapons, armors, quests, and actions for all 11 weapons. Capcom are currently testing trophy functions for the PlayStation 3 version, and it will also include a beginner’s pack of various weapons and armor.

Meanwhile, the Wii U version will be compatible with the GamePad and the Wii U Pro controller; however, it won’t work with the Wii Remote and Nunchuk. Additionally, Capcom are currently testing out possible features using the 3DS for the Wii U version. Similar to its PlayStation 3 counterpart, the Wii U version will include its own beginner’s pack featuring a different set of weapons and armor.

The game content for the upcoming versions will be the same as those in the PC and Xbox 360; however, they will have their own servers, meaning there won’t be any cross-play going on between the newer versions and older ones. The magazine has not specified whether the PlayStation 3 and Wii U versions will be sharing servers.

Prior to the game’s release, players will get to try it out free, for an entire week. Once it’s released, the physical copies will go for 6,090 yen while the downloadable versions will be free of charge. The monthly fees will also remain the same, going by tickets which can be acquired for 1,400 yen for 30 days; or a certain amount of Wii U Points, similar to Monster Hunter Tri in Japan, which charged players subscription fees, unlike the North American version.

Monster Hunter Frontier G will be available for PlayStation 3 on November 20th, and Wii U on December 11th.

All of it. Every single cent I have. TAKE IT!

The more I think about it though, despite the PS3 being region-free, what if the servers have an IP block? Because the same happened with DQX on Wii U. I’m starting to doubt my hype.

    • mike dickson

      japanese vanilla cards probably exist

    • Haseyo

Yeah I don’t want to be “that guy” but chances are this is going to be IP blocked on these consoles as well. Remember, Xbox is region free as well, just devs tend to block many of their games.

      • powerlessbump

Pretty much this. Both 360 and PC versions have an IP block. Also since monsters are server side it makes playing through a VPN difficult.

  • zferolie

Now… capcom… just bring this game to america… and i will love you long time.

  • Judgephoenix

Well this is the most depressing news I’ve seen so far. I hope Capcom get their head together for NA/EU etc.

    • xXDGFXx

      …. how…?

  • SetzerGabbiani

Awesome! I love MH3U. I own it for both systems. Bring this over so I can ignore my girlfriend more.

  • Joseph Guzman

    • Plz Capcom let this come to the USA. I’ll stop calling u guys Crapcom.

  • oh please capcom bring this to NA MHF G on my wii U I could ask for nothing more

  • Flynn Scifo

    All i have to say.

  • gamefreak86

Man I’ve been playing both ultimate versions but felt the need to fill the MMO void left by wow recently. if this came over, it’d be a done deal.

  • epndkempot

Another monster hunter for playstation. Vita has lot of hope.

  • tubers

Wow.. so for PS3 and maybe Trophy support? (AFAIK this was an issue with MHP3 that somewhat drove a rift between Cap and Sony)

Soon there will be a VITA entry of MH be it a rehash or what not.

Oh and the stars are aligned :P

    • xXDGFXx

      >AFAIK this was an issue with MHP3 that somewhat drove a rift

This shouldn’t have been an issue to begin with since you get medals or something for taking down certain monsters. They could have just used those for trophies.

      • Mugen555

Let’s say that’s really an issue, probably this going to be testbed for trophies for later release.
Since they didn’t even have achivement system in 360 release.

    • TheExile285

Capcom hates Vita do don’t hold you breathe

    • J_Joestar

The issues were more to do with the online functionality of the game.
Not sure about the exact details, but Capcom needed a specific update to happen on the PS3 to work, and Sony said “lolno” or something like that.
Of course with FG originating on PC instead of a handheld, the entire online mechanics are probably different.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

    That lat, awesome

  • edomon007

Please make it free to play if Ca$hCom decides to localize it or just bring it over to North America for Wii U & PS3.

    • xXDGFXx

      Nah, that’d be too smart.

  • So Frontier’s coming to new consoles. PS3? With Portable 3rd and it’s HD version still not released in the West, it can get ****ed. Wii U? We haven’t had problems with Nintendo bringing Monster Hunter to the West. So here’s hoping that we at least get it on Wii U. I’m not going to get my hopes up, though, because I’ll just end up cursing Japan for several months. xD

  • Ferofax

How awesome would it be if Capcom goes for CROSS-PLAY between PS3 and Wii U versions?

  • Go2hell66

pretty sure we’ll get MH4 but really doubt we’ll get this

  • XypherCode

Great news! :) More MH for PS3 and Wii U!

  • RazeXI

knowing Capcom, this is never gonna arrive stateside, or it will take 2-3 years

  • AaqibRawat

fantastic news my fingers are crossed.
if i were to play both frontier and 4 i think my life would end…
but i would die happy :)

  • J_Joestar

“Additionally, Capcom are currently testing out possible features using the 3DS for the Wii U version.”

Interesting, tell me more Capcom! TELL ME MORE!

  • Slayven19

I’m sure this’ll come to the west because its on wiiU and ps3. After the wiiU MH3U did well in the west capcom have little reason not to bring this over unless they’ve given up on money.

  • Vash bane

cool I didn’t think it would venture of those and on to these that’s cool
    love me some mohun

  • Hidayat246
