“Capcom Essentials” Bundle Packs Five Games Into One $60 Collection

By Ishaan . August 14, 2013 . 10:00am

Capcom are releasing a 5-in-1 game bundle this October, titled Capcom Essentials, for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Priced at $60, the bundle contains: Resident Evil 6, Devil May Cry 4, Dead Rising 2, Super Street Fighter IV and Mega Man 10.

In addition to the five games—which will be stored on five separate discs—you’ll also get a travel bag.

The Capcom Essential bundles will be available in North America on October 8th and can already be pre-ordered from “certain online retailers”.

  • Mozendo

The game selection isn’t that bad, but it could of been better.
If I had a choice I would of gone with this.

    Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen
    Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3
    Resident Evil 6
    Lost Planet 2 / DmC / Asura’s Wrath
    Mega Man 9

What would you people have gone with?

    • ElAbuelo69

      That minus Dragon’s Dogma.

      Terribly mediocre game imo.

      • serverny

Another drone who didn’t even play Dogma, people like you are easy to spot :D

        • Spirit Macardi

Or maybe he did play it and still thought it sucked. That’s possible as well.

Not everyone is going to like everything.

        • ElAbuelo69

Oh I did play it. First of all, before you all get defensive on me I said the game is, to me, mediocre. I am not saying it sucks.

Secondly, I have my reasons, to list a few:
          1. The pawns never ever shut up, removing the immersion which is key in fantasy role playing games.

          2. Got no lamp at night? The game is unplayable then, not to mention the difficulty rises ridiculously. I suppose some people enjoy this sort of challenge, but definitely not me. Night became something I wanted to avoid, an annoyance that impeded me from enjoying the game. You can’t explore at night, not even do stuff. Not a ‘cool’ difficulty like Dark Souls, but more like a ‘you play in annoying conditions therefore the game becomes hard’ difficulty.

          3. The lore feels so generic and uninspired. For example, Skyrim’s main questline was ‘ok’ but the world Skyrim creates and the lore behind it is what makes it so addicting. You enjoy being in that world, and you love being THE Dragonborn. It actually carries meaning.

          4. Where’s the music? Many areas lacked music or was it me? And you can’t even enjoy the ambient sounds because of your dumb pawns.

..and I could go on. I know this wasn’t the place to bring up this but I needed to prove my point. Dragon’s Dogma has potential but it still needs plenty of work. Capcom can do better imo.

          • Kaitsu

I hope you never touch Dark Souls and complain about it then.

          • ElAbuelo69

Did you read my post? I actually praised Dark Souls on point 2.

          • How do you not hear the music?

The game happily blasts it in front of your face. Especially in combat which happens very often.

I don’t recall if the overworld had any music or not, but not like it mattered since you’ll be having a fight every 1-2 minutes during your travels.

I do agree with your other points, though since you’re a Dark Souls player, I have to question how you found Dragon’s Dogma to be difficult.

    • Juan Andrés Valencia

      Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen
      UMVC 3
Resident Evil 6 or 5 (I actually found 6 to be pretty good, even with some annoying QTE’s that are actually more forgiving than the ones from RE5)
      Mega Man 10

    • Brion Valkerion

Pretty much agree, aside from DmC and Dragon’s Dogma, too new to even assume they would. Would Keep SF4 on there too. Just because it completes a “variety”

Either way, great little bundle, bunch of games, all fairly good minus my own personal opinions on RE6. Each a different genre/gameplay style.

    • Learii

ya is can be better plus they should have 1 ps3 exclusive game 1 xbox 360 exclusive game in each bundle

      anyway I go with

      Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen
      Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3
      Asura’s Wrath
      DMC 4
Sengoku basara samurai hero (ps3 exclusive)
      Monster Hunter Frontier(xbox 360 exclusive)

      • Solomon_Kano

This bundle’s for the US. MHF isn’t out in the US.

        • Learii

I know I just saying if that would happen everyone would buy it

      • Warboss Aohd

see, with Sengoku Basara and Asura’s Wrath in there, i’d actually buy it.

        • Learii

          lol everyone would

    • Tonton Ramos

No not UMVC3 and DmC reboot! I don’t want to remember these two games existed.

    • SiliconNooB

If it were on PC I’d buy it, but I already own most of this stuff on PS3…

Also, RE5 and MM9 would probably be more appealing as included series entries than their sequels.

  • Rafael Monteiro

I only see four discs, maybe Mega Man 10 is a download code?

    • Solomon_Kano

Yep. That’s what the card to the right is for.

      • Rafael Monteiro

the text says “five separate discs” though

        • Solomon_Kano

That was just an oversight on Ishaan’s part. The image, provided by Capcom, shows 4 and a card for a download code.

  • almostautumn

This is actually really great; the only two of these I’ve played are MM10 and DMC4, but even then it’s been a long time since playing either. I might just go ahead and pick this up; it’ll help me not spend money on games during the fall semester at least :P

  • PotatoPower

you could probably get these games for cheaper if you bought them individually lol

  • eilegz

i cant understand why put a outdated SF not even the latest available, they could put another capcom game, or re revelations instead

    • SiliconNooB

They’re probably just clearing old stock…

  • hmmm not a bad deal

  • Solomon_Kano

I actually don’t have any of these, but I’d only want 3 out of this selection. It’d probably be cheaper for me to buy the 3 individually, but this is a pretty good deal nonetheless.

  • Chaos_Knight

Pretty good choice of titles imo.

  • Daniel G.

marketed ‘deal’ to get rid of stock that just won’t sell anymore. All these games are old versions which have been superseded by at least one recent version which you can buy right now. Except for RE6, which was a jumbled schizophrenic mess.

    RE6 (2013) – Terrible Game. Sold Terribly
    SF4 (2009) – Old Version.
DR2 (2010) – succeeded by ‘Off Record’ which was a much better game
    DMC4 (2008) – Replaced with Series Revamp

    • Minos

      Pretty much.

The only reason companies make these kind of deals/sells is because the product has no “Value”.

In another words, because nobody is buying it.

      • Daniel G.

As if we’d ever expect a ‘deal’ from capcom in the first place. with the constant revisions to generate revenue and selling content on disc as ‘DLC’ and by ‘DLC’ they mean ‘key to unlock’. #HA.

No thanks Capcom, I won’t be helping you clear your storage area.

    • Odin

RE6 is getting a gold version in Japan, so…

    • D H

RE6 (2013) – Wonderful game, and my favorite in the series, which I’ve been playing since 2 came out. Horribly unrated. I’ll give you it’s a little off-putting at first, but once you get used to the new controls, it’s fantastic. Sure, it’s not “scary” anymore (it is, but for different reasons), but c’mon, these characters have been through outbreak after outbreak, I doubt there’s much left that would actually scare them. Moving while shooting was something I didn’t actually want when they announced it, but now that I’ve played it, it’s very hard for me to enjoy 4 and 5 (haven’t honestly been able to enjoy 1-3 since 4 came out… sure, they were great for their time, but they are just so limited by their own design that I can’t honestly have much fun with them anymore…). Being able to dive, duck and crawl gives a much more human feel to the series as well, since now I’m no longer stuck just trying to run half-circles around everything. The story narrative was very nicely woven together between the four campaigns, including parts you don’t even notice until second, third or even fourth playthroughs. Sure, it has its “ridiculous” parts, but so does 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, etc.

If you’re looking for a game like 1-3, yeah, this isn’t going to do it for you. I don’t understand the backlash on that though, because neither did 4 or 5. This game doesn’t deviate from their formula, other than giving multiple player characters across 4 campaigns instead of 1 (or 2) across 1. Each campaign’s initial length is nice as well, all 4 took me at least 7-8 hours to clear my first time through. Compared to 4, again, which took the same and then I was done with everything (minus the horrible Mercenaries mode Capcom keeps trying to make me play… bleh), or 5, which lasted about 10-11 hours with a friend.

Basically, I don’t understand the hate, and I don’t most people who sprout the hate (I don’t know about Daniel G. here, but I’m talking in general) are probably the same group that just doesn’t play games and takes whatever the first opinion they see and runs with it, or people that only played maybe one chapter and didn’t get used to the controls and decided to just say it’s bad. Unfortunately, just like with FFXIII, just because the beginning may be a little off putting, the entire game suddenly needs to be “terrible,” and plenty of people are going to miss out on a great experience.

    • serverny

      >DMC4 (2008) – Replaced with Series Revamp

Its still a more solid game than “series revamp” imho, too bad it was rushed release and as result reused levels a bit too much.

      • SiliconNooB

DMC4 still sold waaaaay better, so I don’t think that DmC replaced DMC for most people…

  • Hollowkoopa

All these games except for RE6 can be found cheaper at your local gamestore or online. I think there’s no reason to buy them from this essential pack.

  • epy

Let’s try to break down the reasoning behind bundling each title. Paranoid mind, GO:

Resident Evil 6: To clear stock as it clearly sold less than they expected but to also act as a hook for people that haven’t played it and might as well get other stuff as a “deal”.

Devil May Cry 4: Please forget DmC… and to clear stock.

Dead Rising 2: Hey! We’ve got this game called Dead Rising 3 coming out soon. Don’t know it? Play Dead Rising 2, maybe you’ll buy DR3… and to clear stock.

    SSF4: Threefold:

    1. “Oh, I’ve always heard about this SF thing, let’s try it! *Goes online* Download update and give us money! “Oh, ok.”
    2. “I like this SF thing. What’s that? Ultra Street Fighter 4? I’m getting it for sure!”
    3. Clear stock. Who buys this one anymore?

Megaman 10: … … new Megaman soon…? Actually, this is the only one that makes no sense.

    • J_Joestar

MM10 makes the most sense! it is a purely digital game so it costs the least to just toss into the bundle.

      • epy

Well, yes, but it still kind of odd. All the other titles are AAA budget action games that would appeal to americans and the most known fighting game out there. A retro styled platformer that was tailored for fans of the NES Megaman games seems a weird choice. They could have very well used Bionic Commando Rearmed or something like that instead.

    • Solomon_Kano

It didn’t even occur to me how funny it is that they put DMC4 in over DmC. DmC’s the newer of the two and RE6 shows they clearly don’t have an issue with putting a more recent game in, so…

      • Samuel

DmC is still a pretty new game, it came out this year. They probably thought the game still might sell on its own. That or they want to forget about it all together.

        • Solomon_Kano

Yea, it’d make sense that they’d want it to keep selling on its own. It’s only been out 7 months, after all (and it’s still not bargain bin priced like the rest of the games in the pack).

If they have any intent to do a sequel though, I figure this would be their best bet to get it into more people’s hand though.

          • SiliconNooB

DmC is never getting a sequel.

          • Solomon_Kano

Yea, I’d expect not lol. But, hey, stranger things have happened.

          • SiliconNooB

Yea, well I guess I didn’t see Lightning Returns coming either…

      • Tincho D

Thinking about it i’m glad DmC isn’t in.

      • SiliconNooB

I’m guessing that they probably printed waaaaaaay more RE6 discs and expected it to sell about 8m, so when it only sold 4m they ended up with a massive amount of surplus RE6 stock.

With DmC Capcom only expected it to sell 2m, so when it nearly sold 1m they probably figured that they could still manage to shift the remainder of their inventory at budget pricing.

Also, they may have weird licensing agreements with Ninja Theory which make it difficult to include it.

Or maybe it’s just stubborn pride not wanting to throw DmC into a budget pack in the same year as it was released?

        • Solomon_Kano

Yea, I could see that reasoning making sense for RE6.

DmC still hasn’t been dragged down to bargain bin price like the rest of the games in the collection yet, so I’d wager it’s still selling well enough that they didn’t feel the need to bundle it.

    • TheExile285

But isn’t DR3 Xbox 180 exclusive or do I have it mixed up with another game?

      • epy

Yeah it is, which is why they need all the brand recognition they can get.

        • SiliconNooB

          The new one looks brown…

  • KingGunblader

Well this bundle definitely isn’t for me. I suppose $60 is a good deal for five ostensibly high-quality games, but I don’t care for Resident Evil or Dead Rising. I’ve never played DMC, so it probably wouldn’t be a good idea to start at 4. I’ve already got the most recent version of Street Fighter IV, and I bought Mega Man 10 on Wii…

  • AkuLord3

Besides like one game (already got MM10), i could care less…but geez Capcom, you’re REALLY need some money don’t you? I do chuckle to see that instead of DmC, they put DMC4 while instead of maybe RE5, they put RE6 (not that means much but RE6 is better than 5, i’ll give it that.)

  • Shady Shariest

Oh, here i came to take a looksie for a nice 20-30 $/€/£ pack of good games released so that people would play them before the new gen takes full speed…

  • Rocket D

I find it so ironic Capcom choose DMC4 over DmC as an essential title to own for this bundle pack when they were so stuck on the reboot taking over the series. Shouldn’t they be trying to promote the new on for that to be possible (especially since there’s rumors of a possible sequel)? That speaks a lot of volumes in terms of where DMC as a series should go and Capcom is aware of this…maybe? Maybe they are pushing DMC4 sales because they planning something with DMC from the original universe or they are pushing sales because it was more favored sales wise compared to DmC…no clue…DMC 4 sold better than DmC so that could be the reason though that seems like backwards reasoning.

More irony is that SF IV Ultimate is releasing soon and they are pushing people to buy this version. Not sure if that makes sense…Maybe this whole bundle is just for promoting future titles with these franchises?

Overall, this is a decent bundle I’d have considered if I didn’t already own the games I wanted from it.

    • 하세요

DmC is still relatively new. People will still pay a much higher price for it than DMC4. Most if not all of these titles are somewhat dated, so they are pretty cheap at this point. It seems to just be games to hype up newer ones being released or more recent titles to boost those sales.

      • Rocket D

I agree with you but to mention I did literally say what you did in my previous comment. I think it’s just to boost sales of newer titles of these franchises since most of them have a planned game too release or already have a more recent title.

Good point though considering DMC4’s retail price is cheaper compared to DmC since its older. I’ll admit I didn’t think of that at first. I checked DmC’s current retail price though and they wouldn’t really lose that much if they did include it in this bundle and DmC would sell more should the bundle sell successfully. I still think it’s a tad strange even with the retail price reasoning behind why they chose what. Especially since people feel a sequel is possible? (not sure, just seen stuff about it, can’t say this is legit or not). If DmC was still $60 it’d make more sense though like you said DMC4 still sales cheaper than DmC so I can agree to that.

      • Ace Trainer Chris

But…Resident Evil 6 came out this very year. o_O In fact, it came out after DmC did.

        • SiliconNooB

RE6 came out last year on console – it’s just the PC version that came out this year.

    • SiliconNooB

There won’t be a sequel. NT tried and failed.

      • Rocket D

I can agree with that too. Not bashing the game for people who like, and it sold decent I heard, it but I wasn’t looking forward to it continuing. I have no clue what it could mean for DMC as a series now though but I would like to see the original arc continue if that’s even a chance…

        • SiliconNooB

          Probably not.

Capcom will probably sit on it for a few years and then attempt to reboot it once again after they have finally managed to destroy all their other franchises. Maybe next time they’ll attempt to develop it themselves, but who knows?

  • Spirit Macardi

Meh, I already own DMC 4, which is pretty much the only game in this collection that would otherwise interest me.

  • Josué

I would be cool if MM10 was physical too.

  • Samuel

I was interest in this until I found out what the games were, I already owned all of these games for many years.

  • PRGamerCub

uh…. the dlc isnt included ?! ahaha what a fail seriously

  • Krisi92

Mega Man 10? 9 was so much better in my opinion…

  • lozffvii

With DMC4 and Megaman 10 both in this bundle I would’ve easily considered getting it. It would’ve been an excellent chance for me to try Super Street Fighter IV and Dead Rising 2.

Had it not been for Resident Evil 6.
I have heard nothing but bad things about the recent RE series. I also have no respect for the series selling out. As such I won’t be getting this collection.

    • SiliconNooB

RE6 is such a bad game. Worst. Purchase. Ever….

  • KonjikinoSora

I just want a complete Mega Man collection.

  • Chee Yang

    I could careless about SSF4 because I’m playing SSF4AE. I already flip DMC4. This is still a good deal because I haven’t played RE6, MegaMan 10, and DeadRising 2.

    • SiliconNooB

RE6 is not worth playing IMO. It may be cheap, but your time is worth more than that game.

  • Musashi234

    • DCBlackbird

      Hello Sovereign

  • Tincho D

I see no problems with this practice but i’m not excited about the games presented.

And Mega Man 9 being missing in this compilation kinda bugs me (as if MM10’s disc didn’t allow for one more game).

    • TheHolypopeofgaming

Mega Man 10 looks like a download Voucher to me.

      • Tincho D

        What a bummer.

  • laurenhiya21

Well if you wanted all of them, they do come to approximately the same price separately ( based on used Amazon.com prices, except for MM 10 since it’s download only), however I don’t care about 3 or 4 of those games so it would be a stupid buy for me :/

(and is it just me or does that bag seem like a random thing to throw in…?)

    • Well if you think the purpose of the bag is to carry your games in it, then I guess it doesn’t seem that random.

At the very least, it’s not as random as a bathing sponge.

  • hazelnut1112

I find it funny how DmC is not in the pack and instead they put in Devil May Cry 4. I bet even Capcom knows it’s not that great.

    • KuroNathan

A lot of people say that DmC sold poorly because of people not liking the new look of Dante. But even if the game was a completely new IP and changed the name to like Poochie or something it still would have sold poorly.

The main character is obnoxious the writing is terrible and oh god the gameplay. This is literally the only combo action game I can think of that does not have a hard lock on and where if I press shoot it prioritizes shooting the demon closest to me then where I actually want it to go, there’s a few other issues with the gameplay but that’s the most glaring part. Its a shame cause I liked the idea behind the story and the story elements but the execution was bungled so badly

      • DCBlackbird

this isn’t so much a diamond in the rough more like a roughed up diamond

        • KuroNathan

exactly, I was actually excited with the first trailer and woefully disappointing with the final product.

“DMC fans don’t like change!” “They just don’t like new Dante!”

I actually like the new design ( and the old one) just not the game. A dark dante that starts off mentally distrubed would have been better then the jack ass donte who’s a jack ass for the sake of being “cool”

          • DCBlackbird

That stock protagonist of grizzled white guys that Western developers seem to love is one of my gripes with them. Dante is a troubled young man with a pessimistic view on life, a realist method on dealing with it and an optimistic attitude when things are in absolute hysteria(eh in some scenes) well I guess he is troubled in concept and presentaion

      • hazelnut1112

There is more to it than that. It was also the developers and a few websites that were to blame as well. Instead of trying to persuade people to accept the change, Ninja Theory pretty much gave a middle finger to the DMC fans and didn’t care for their input. Then you got websties like IGN and Kotaku also talking crap to the fans
Which later had NT going “If you don’t like it because of the changes then piss off”, so what did the fans do? They did just that and the game was a blunder. So because of that, they later said “G-give it a chance guys, the game is already out” the damage was done by then. I could say the fans acted childish about the changes, but they actually had many reasons why the changes were terrible besides the hair, which is funny because that is the one thing every review says “Just because they hanged the hair don’t mean it’s bad”. They were just making it worse on them and the game.

    • DCBlackbird

I believe they got the aesthetics pretty well(I am biased towards Western games)but I agree it was uber derivative and the only thing I really enjoyed was the insanity it’s premise is. I will give the game props for it’s heavy grunge influence, even though it screams that faux definition for anarchy you know destruction bro yadda yadda .

    • FInd it even funnier that DMC4 and RE6 are listed as “essentials”…

You know what, they are RIGHT! I mean…

I have a wobbly piano that could use the extra support, and if a QTE can get the piano to stop wobbling then by all means XD

  • TrevHead

    No PAL release? damn

  • evilmajikman

Lame. I would’ve gotten this if MM10 was on disc. Sadly it is not and I can find these games in the bargain bin.

  • DCBlackbird

I wouldn’t quite call them essentials….. especially since these games have stories that are anything but essential to their series except maybe dead rising 2…..

    • DCBlackbird

downvoters huh? well I’ll defend myself *WARNING SPOILERS ehhhh not really*
Dmc4 was a nero story that had yamato in order to make some small connection to dmc3
RE6 was a crossover/family reunion that didn’t really tell us anything we didn’t already know other than the family which came out of nowhere.
SF4 I really enjoyed but it went back to the Bison story with Seth being a cannon fodder for the plot and it just ends…… honestly it really didn’t pan out with 3
Megaman 10 isn’t really one of my favorites but that’s all preference
Dead Rising 2 I’ll be honest I have not played this one yet…..

  • Neppygear

I like how it’s DMC4 and not DmC.

No, really, I genuinely do like that.

  • Craig Mikucki

I can’t imagine all the money they think they are going to get from all the DLC from these games.

  • Zero_Destiny

Just want to remind everyone that this an article about a Bundle release Capcom is doing and not an article about DmC: Devil May Cry. Let’s all try to stay on topic here.

  • Raltrios

God effing dammit, I can’t afford all of this!

    • Then don’t! Your wallet will appreciate it.

  • NRool

I Love/Hate how Love/Hate people are with newer Capcom games.
Love it because it can make strong discussions and such.
Hate it because it usually boils down to “I like DmC” “I DONTE F U IT SUKS”

  • Phill XVII

The could at least make a Trophy Patch for DmC 4.

  • Kevin Schwarz

Considering anybody could have two of three outta the five…this seems like a bad idea to me. I don’t know you guys but Capcom is all about money over quality since the last decade.

  • ZEROthefirst

Wait is Mega Man 10 actually going to be on a physical disc? I ask because when I went to Gamestop’s site to look at it, it states the games available and then get to Mega Man 10 it says “Mega Man 10 – Digital Download”
I’m hoping this is just an error on their part, because if MM10 is getting a physical release then I’m all for getting this (give me an excuse to play RE6 too lol), but if it’s just a DL code I’ll pass.

    • MrSirFeatherFang

Mega Man 10 is a digital download code, Solomon_Kano mentions below that Ishaan has made an error in the article.
Mega Man 10 on disc would’ve been nice.

      • ZEROthefirst

Had a feeling, but was just hoping I’d be able to get MM10 and 9 physically at some point lol.
