You Win A J-Stars Victory Vs. Bout When The Win Gauge Is Full

J-Stars Victory Vs. has two on two fights with Shonen Jump characters like Luffy and Ichigo. A round continues until one team fills up their Win gauge. The meter on the top left is your team’s Win gauge and the meter on the top right is the other team’s Win gauge. The bottom left shows your character’s life and stamina meters. The bottom right has a map and the stage, Planet Namek in this screenshot. Players accumulate some meter in their your Win gauge by knocking out opponents. Knocked out characters are automatically revived until the match ends.

There are four types of attacks in J-Stars Victory Vs.:

Normal attacks (top left) – your basic move. These are fast attacks that do not consume stamina.

Power attack (top right) – slow, but powerful strikes that can also break an opponent’s guard. Uses stamina.

Ranged attacks (bottom left) – long range attacks that deal a lot of damage. Also uses stamina. Enemies can sidestep these attacks.

Special attacks (bottom right) – signature character moves like Ichigo’s Getsuga Tenshou.

 

Characters have their own play styles too. Goku and Ichigo are mobile fighters that specialize in battling in the air. Luffy and Toriko prefer to rush into combat and unleash barrages of attacks against their enemies. Kenshin and Naruto specialize in fighting two opponents at the same time.

 

J-Stars Victory Vs. is in development for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita.

    Hmmm… it’s interesting to see them trying a slightly different concept than simply a life bar. Hopefully they don’t go too far with it or execute it poorly, or they’ll end up with PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.

      It’s not a “faff about doing this and only KO by super system”, it’s just team deathmatch with the scores represented by the bar, so it shouldn’t be an issue.

    If people think about it, it’s essentially a reverse health bar.

      It’s like that…But if people remember back to the last scan. After you fill up your Win-Gauge, then you can unleash a powerful End-Game attack. Then you win the match.

        Perhaps I missed the scan, but where is this “End-Game” attack. I’m worried that it’s a required thing like All Stars instead of being a bonus like BlazBlue’s Astral Finish (you need to spend 100% energy AND the opponent to be close to losing).

            So by default you need to beat enemies three times to fill the win gauge.
            It still isn’t that clear whether we will need to use that special to end the fight, but at the very least we need to fight for a good while till then and all of the combat has worth rather than what All Stars introduced. It seems to be much closer to what Astral Heat is in BlazBlue.

    Point system reminds me of Jump Ultimate Stars. You would kill people and get points for it. by the time ends, whoever has the most points wins. but in this, you kill the enemy, get the points to fill up a meter.

      I’d always win by a fairly wide margin of points.

    Sounds similar to the one from Battle Stadium D.O.N. except that the gauge from D.O.N. is filled by beating your opponents and collecting their red balls lol.

    For a multiplayer game, makes sense. Encourages aggression instead of hiding.

    Based on principal, I would rather have a system more like Gundam vs Gundam where every character has a set worth (say 6 is the maximum and some characters are worth 3 and others are worth 1 or 2), as you lose points, you lose potential spawns or health on spawning if you cost too much. >_>

    It is more honest than a gauge which gives you “win points” without any quantity or balancing.

    Glad to see a map though.

    I haven’t seen one in a game with the Dragon Ball license in it since Budokai Tenkaichi 2.

      To me it would be better with at least 3 types of battles:
      -The one described in this article, opening more room for strategy.

      - One where you and your partner share a single lifebar, for battles based almost 100% in co-op.

      -And for last, battles where you have to K.O. the opponents duo, even with your partner knocked out for the rest of the match, best suitable for individual skills (preferable if your partner sucks or something…).

      Free for all doesn’t work anymore for this kind of game, and this “set worth” that you mentioned seems pretty good, given some probable balance issues in this game, but I’ll wait a bit more to make conclusions, gameplay videos of TGS is a good oportunity.

        Looks closer to the Dragon Ball Z Arcade game… Battle Royale was it? Or Battle of Z coming next year to me.

      While im happy with this roster since it includes Gon, Ichigo, Toriko and Jojo. I hope for a few more especially the Alien from Ansatsu Kyoushitsu, D Grey-man or Yugi.

        Although some of the same characters might get in. That said even then I doubt that would have been the full roster anyway not with only 18 characters and them showing none of the support characters they mentioned the game would have.

    Sounds like reverse gundam vs/Gotcha Force. Instead of losing points from your set when you get ko’ed, you gain points for doing the KOing

    So basically we’ve got Anarchy Reigns’s tag battle mode with animu characters.

    I have no problem with this, but I do think the game will need a few more modes than that alone, even a 3 vs 3 or 6 way battle royal would be awesome.
