Super Robot Taisen Is Getting A Fighting Game Spin Off For PS3 This November

By Spencer . August 27, 2013 . 7:12pm

srta01a Super Robot Taisen is leaving the grid behind with Super Robot Taisen OG Infinite Battle. This upcoming game is a 3D fighting game with team battles. Mecha from the OG saga series can clash in 1 vs. 3, 2 vs. 2, and 1 vs. 1 fights.

Super Robot Taisen OG Infinite Battle doesn’t have a story. The controls sound simplified too since there is a specific button for melee attacks, another button to fire weapons and a special attack button. When you add directional input (like up, down, left, or right) when pressing these buttons you can do different attacks. The game has a weapon modification system, but details will be announced in a future report.

Players will be able to fight as these mecha:

Fariylion Type S

Alteisen Riese

Gespenst Mk-II (mass produced model)

B.B. Studio and Beck are developing Super Robot Taisen OG Infinite Battle. Namco Bandai has the game slated for release on PlayStation 3 on November 28. A limited edition version includes Super Robot Taisen OG Dark Prison DLC and a downloadable episode that plays like the PS3 game, The 2nd Super Robot Taisen OG. The episode will be made available for everyone in 2014, but you can play it early if you pick up the Super Robot Taisen fighting game.

    • Actually, you’re in purgatory. The Gaming Gods are playing with you by tying this game on a fishing line and dangling it on top of you. Try and catch it!

      • Bossjoe

  • Chris Yuen

    • Lynx

      Russel’s Gespenst, actually.

      I believe the term is….

  • Pdugna

If this game works like tenkaichi style of fighting ill definitely check it out. This is one of those series i havent gotten into yet…mainly being even after i googled the show didnt figure out which one to start out on.

    • Bossjoe

I believe it sounds more like Gundam vs rather then tenkaichi style.

  • Margaret Chan

So um. With it being on PS3 any chances we can see it in NA? Just curious.

    • HIGHLY UNLIKELY!!! Namco is too jelous with this Franchise reaching Worldwide Mainstream outside of Japan! Even if it’s OG. I would like them to localize another SRW title that isn’t a non-mecha spin-off! And this particular game, that is both a Fighting game and part of the OG series, would be THE perfect title for localization. But alas, given the current track record…

      • Just Tim

That jealousy is essentially a spite vote vs. SRW, ranging from the Hueckebein issue to outdoing other franchises in popularity.

I personally welcome the notion of SRW, reaching to Tekken’s popularity.

  • Michael Connell

Please let this be localized, we need more SRT in english

    • Renaldi Saputra

      1. licensing takes so much budget..
      2. SRW don’t have high enthusiasms in the west, it’s kinda risky
      3. Bamco don’t want to take any risk of localizing anymore

      • WyattEpp

Those are all Bandai original mecha. No licensing dance.

        • Renaldi Saputra

but they usually do spin-offs from many anime series.. as far as I remember

  • Okay everyone, you know what to do. Let’s go hotblooded as Operation Hotblood and show Namco Bandai that we want SRW OG Infinite Battle to the states and beyond!

    • Renaldi Saputra

make a petition would be a good way it seems.. just like Re:Digitize Decode

Count me in. Hotblooded operation, sounds good. Well, whatever that means a chance for this game to be localized sounds good!

  • Tom_Phoenix

Considering how badly Super Robot Spirits (the only prior SRW fighting game) flopped, I’m not sure why Namdai thinks this is a good idea. Heck, the downloadable episode almost comes off as a desperation move to avoid another Spirits scenario.

Oh well, if we’re lucky, we might get another cool animated commercial:

    • But Super Robot Spirits is like more than a decade ago. Surely they’ve learned from their mistakes and will do it right, OG-style.

  • Mugen555

    Dark Prison DLC for OGs2
So,SRW EX Shu route finally in game

  • VenerableSage

I’m holding out judgment on this until we actually see some screenshots at the least. Just because it’s an OG game doesn’t mean we should start humping Namco’s proverbial leg before they show us the treat.

Also, I sincerely hope that, like the trickle of information for The 2nd Super Robot Taisen OG, the above six mechs are only the first set of names to be released. A fighter with only six characters is going to get boring fast. Hey, at least this will be non-canonical (because Thrudgelmir), so we could probably see crazy match-ups like the Valsion versus the Zelvoid.

Also, Spencer, I’d be inclined to guess that the Super Robot Taisen OG Dark Prison DLC and the 2nd Super Robot Taisen OG downloadable episode are one in the same… The portion of 2nd SRT OG at the beginning that covers the plot of SRT EX omitted one of the routes, that of Shu Shirakawa and his Granzon (which has the theme Dark Prison). If I recall correctly, Terada had wanted to have it in the game, but couldn’t for whatever reason. He postulated that he might make it available through other means (drama CD, I think, was one of the proposed options), so this is probably it.

    • Bossjoe

Yes, I see your point… Then we shall just have to wait for TGS in a couple weeks wont we. Then we shall see what we shall see!!

Also, If it means they make this game then I will gladly “hump” any part of there body that they so choose!! As what he describes in the article sounds similar to Extreme VS. to me and I will gladly except this as a substitute for Full Boost if that is what it comes to!

      • VenerableSage

An OG version of Extreme Vs. would be amazing… if they made one big tweak that’s bugged me in every single Gundam game ever – the boost gauge overheating ridiculously fast.

I’m sure that from a player balance perspective, having really extended boosting times would make it significantly harder to hit opponents. But, considering that mechs will be boosting for a solid minute or more in the various shows, being able to only boost for ~10 seconds before overheating in the games doesn’t really accurately portray the mechs being used.

        • So they should give it a more “infinite boost gauge” like in Zone of the Enders in which Jehuty can boost dash as long as it wants to?

          • VenerableSage

From my non-game-designer mind, I’d do it as such and kill two birds with one stone: add in an Energy value stat (just like in the regular SRW games) and tie Boost to it (like how using movement while in the Air or Space terrains costs 1 EN per square in the games).

Give the mechs their own individual EN caps and let the players boost as much as they want as long as they have EN to do so. Make EN recharge at a slow rate to compensate and make certain attacks draw from it too. Then, the player would need to balance extended boosting against the ability to use attacks later in fights.

          • Bossjoe

HMMMM…. I like it!! Gives more strategy to the fighting while keeping it SRW.

  • WingsOfEternity

I’m surprised they didn’t just get the Gundam vs Gundam team to handle it, but nevertheless this is fucking awesome.

  • SetzerGabbiani

My first gut reaction is that it sounds like crap. I love the OG universe, but this doesn’t sound appealing…almost like it wants to be a Smash Bros/Street Fighter hybrid. However, being a fighting game it has a far better chance of localization than the SRPGs…go figure.

That said, Katina’s Gespenst or GTFO!

    • VenerableSage

If I can’t have Katina’s, Kai’s is an acceptable substitute.

  • 60hz

sounds like ‘gundam vs’ game system

  • Neophoton

    Do want.

  • monkey king

OG? They better include Ialdaboath and valefor.

  • GVsG with SRW OG roster would be really awesome but i don’t mind Virtual-ON style either.

Would like to see Wildwurger somehow gets in the game.

  • Just Tim

Aww. They didn’t use the Tekken engine. :(

  • YES! We’re also getting Dygenguard, Vysaga and the KoRyuOh!

  • sd28

    shout now

  • Nate

Awesome. This is the closest thing I’ll get to a Gundam Battle Assuallt sequel! I’m in!

  • Aristides

Cmon! It’s a fighting game, it’s ripe for localization!

  • Tre W

It sounds awesome, but BEC (Gundam Crossfire) being behind it keeps me from being fully hyped.

Will wait to trailer to fully assess.

  • Sardorim

    No story at all? Why?!

Would be disappointed if this arrived and the standard SRW stuff didn’t.

  • The trailer of SRW OG Infinite Battle. It’s… it’s beautiful!

    • Göran Isacson

Huh. It kinda reminds me more of the old DBZ fighting games than Smash Bros. I wonder what the numbers next to the symbols in the lower right corner means- limited numebr of special attacks, maybe?

    • neocatzon

The mechs are beautiful but.. from what I see here the gameplay instead GvG it’s closer to ACE:R which means 1) screen blocking player characters and 2) unavoidable attacks (unlike gvg we can dodge homing attacks). Point 2 annihilate competition, just pick strongest character and wipe the floor with it. Still, I see Fairlion dodging melee. Hope, I’m proven wrong.

  • Kevin Schwarz

I don’t see license as a problem since the mecha are originals from the SRT saga, in fact, it pisses me off that SRTOG2 was not localized since they all were originals. Also, we WANT to play as Valsyone R !

    • – Valsione R
      – Rein Weissritter
      – (G) Compatible Kaiser
      – RaiOh
      – Granveil
      – Goddess / Gaddeath
      – Neo Granzon
      – SRX
      – Hyperion

If they could put these mechs into the game as well, that would be awesomesauce.
Also, it would be nice to get the option to swap pilots with mechs (like in DW:G3), but I guess that’s too much asked.

      • Kevin Schwarz

SRX, I can see unbalance there if they add SRX, but, I wouldn’t care.
