Shantae: Half-Genie Hero Now Coming To PS Vita As Well

By Ishaan . September 10, 2013 . 9:30am

In addition to PC, Wii U, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, Shantae: Half-Genie Hero is now also headed to the PlayStation Vita. Developer WayForward write on the game’s Kickstarter page:

As it happens, the landscape of gaming has shifted somewhat today with Sony’s VITA TV announcement. In response, we’ve decided to port wfEngine to Vita as part of our “work-for-hire” business.

What does this mean for Half-Genie Hero? Well, it means that we can include both VITA and VITA TV as part of our $400K funding goal. It’s not a Stretch Goal, just part of the package.

Shantae Half-Genie Hero is one of two Shantae games in development at the moment. While this game is headed to PC and consoles, the other title, Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse, is in development for Nintendo 3DS. Neither game has a release date yet.

WayForward is one of my favorite developers. It’s good that a Vita version is confirmed so that everybody can enjoy the game.
You should watch Jonathan Holmes’ recent interview with Matt Bozon on ‘Sup Holmes. A great watch :))

Gr8, another game for the Vita, though I’m not into side scrolling games ‘ 3’

  • Stalemeat

Good move. The Vita needs more games and this will be a great addition to the library.

    Good News!

  • GameWinner

So the Vita TV helped with the decision?
    Good news!

Good job WF. You just greatly increased my chances of buying the game. Cross buy would be nice but just having the Vita option is so excellent. Thanks.

I wonder if it will come to 3DS as well, since its on everything else and if it does then every Shantae game will be available for it.

    • I would imagine they’re going to want to wait and position it away from Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse. No point killing that game’s sales by announcing another 3DS Shantae at the same time.

      • Herok♞

        Excellent point as always.

Apparently someone on NeoGAF already made that question directly to the developers, they said: “Shantae: Half-Genie Hero at its core is intended to be 60fps 1080p HD title and therefore it is unlikely that the 3DS can support it.”

    • XypherCode

Someone asked that early on in the Kickstarter comments section and here’s a quote from WayForward: “…For 3DS, your best bet will be Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse. I’m not sure the HD game could run on 3DS without some serious compression. But hey, we’ll ask.”

      • Herok♞

Well then that sucks, it would be nice to have every game on one memory card.

        • XypherCode

Yeah but if you think about it it’ll be pointless to make a 3DS version of the game, since the whole point of the campaign (or at least one of) is the HD aspect of Shantae. An option is that they would need to revert back to the sprite based character design like in Pirate’s Curse.

          • Herok♞

Well at the very least at least it will be on Wiiu so I can get it there.

I was hoping this would be funded already, it’s not looking good for most of the stretch goals. Either way I’m looking forward to the game.

“we’ve decided to port wfEngine to Vita as part of our “work-for-hire” business.”

Sounds like more WF titles in the future. :D

  • TheExile285

Sweet. I’ll buy this for Vita and Pirates Curse on 3DS.

I’m biting my fingernails on this kickstarter. I wish it would hit 400k already so I could relax!

  • DarthSithZero

Perfect, side-scroll and metroidvania games are always welcome in my Vita

  • leingod

Definetely backing this up now :)

I guess the Vita TV might be something good after all. This means more games for Vita. Plus since it’s $99 it will be better than the OUYA and it actually has games.

  • Arcana Wiz

Cool i love these type of games on a portable.
