Soulcalibur: Lost Swords Is A Free To Play Soulcalibur Fighting Game

By Spencer . September 10, 2013 . 9:50pm

imageNamco Bandai will release a new Soulcalibur game this year, but it isn’t Soulcalibur VI. Soulcalibur: Lost Swords was announced in Famitsu magazine as a free to play Soulcalibur game.

Namco Bandai will monetize the title through virtual item sales. Details about the items have not been leaked yet, but Namco Bandai’s other free to play games like Tekken Revolution and Mobile Suit Gundam: Battle Operation have some kind of energy that limits the amount of plays sessions.

Siegfried and Mitsurugi are confirmed to be in Soulcalibur: Lost Swords and the game appears to use the Soulcalibur V artwork. Soulcalibur: Lost Swords will be released for PlayStation 3 later this year.

    sigh

I’ll stick with my 40-60 buck games f2p can eat it

    • Thatguy

They will eat 60 bucks and will ask for more D:

      *Feed me! Feed me!*

  • Shady Shariest

“Soul Calibur F2P, presented in 70% cut Namco version. For your pleasure!”
Thanks for killing the series :/ (Or at least slowing it down… )

  • Pockystix

    welp

I chose a good time to stop caring about SC o n o

  • Craig Mikucki

Excuse me while I cry and/or bash my head into a wall. This free to play thing with fighting games has got to stop. I literally only use one character in this series(so it would save me money not having all those extra characters!) and I still think this is a stupid idea.

  • Roberto

Tekken,Ace combat and now Soul calibur
    what next idolmaster ?

  • Tenabrus

So thats what now, 4 series?…
Let’s see… Tekken Revolution, Ace Combat Infinity, Ridge Racer Driftopia, Soul Calibur F2P…

While the F2P games seem great fun and all (I liked Tekken Revolution) the disadvantages of F2p being very trimmed down basic games doesn’t help the fact that it doesn’t appeal enough to make me want to play it over TTT2.

  • Afternoon Intergalactic

How disappointing.. haven’t gotten into a soul calibur game since SCII on the gamecube. Good thing the remake is coming soon!

  • Suicunesol

It’s like buying an arcade machine for yourself, but to play you still need to dump in quarters. :O

  • Ouryu

I would like to create my character in this f2p.

  • Sardorim

I stopped caring for SC after SC V.

Broken Destiny was the last good SC game.

  • Digital-Devil

I’m really not liking this trend that’s going on. Very few companies know how to pull off free to play correctly and Bandai Namco is not one of them. Since legions of fans of their properties are willing to shell out money for overpriced DLC and energy (for gundam online) to keep playing this will continue to be the norm going into the next gen. Just look at all the F2P games on next gen consoles. We switched DRM for always online and microtransactions.

    • leingod

Totally agree. I can’t bring myself to care about these F2P versions of the games I love, and I fear it may give Namco the wrong message: that we don’t care about the franchises anymore.

  • Abysswalker90

    =0
I think it’s great we get something out of Project Soul. Maybe there’s hope for the franchise.

  • Muffum

    I no longer feel anger.
    Only disappointment.
    Soul-crushing disappointment. (Pun not intended.)

  • http://altsune.com/ Ovada Bey

My main is Edgemaster/Charade/Inferno/Olcadan, since I’ve played the series since its inception.
It would be nice to have JUST that kind of character.
But hey, if this means they can bring back people like Zasalamel and Talim because they don’t have a story to write them out of, cool.

  • Ooh Bee

Terrible. First we had to worry about games being mobile exclusives or card games, now we have this F2P crap.

  • Syn

I really hope this F2P fad crashes and burns to hell this coming gen, then we can get back to actually owning our games and not watching them disappear two years down the line when people no longer give a damn about how they arent truly progressing cos of the annoying $100+ micro-transactions.

  • Mental

Tekken, Ace Combat, Ridge Racer, and now Soul Caliber.
I’m just waiting for the announcement of a F2P Tales RPG. =P

  • Teepo 64

I don’t like the fact that you have to be connected to the internet to play Tekken Revolution. Better to wait for the 6th installment. Just hoping they bring back Sophitia, Taki, and Talim.

  • hazelnut1112

I don’t like how they are doing this free to play model for fighters. And it’s pissing me off even more that Namco are the ones pushing it even further.

  • Isaac Newton

Oh look the First World people complaining how cute.

I don’t live in a place of luxury and most of the current gen games I owned where 5 or more so having this game have no problem on my part plus I don’t give a sh*t on the micro-transactions I could play an F2P game without spending a money and enjoy it.

Plus I enjoy Tekken Revolution. You mad Elitist!

  • KingGunblader

So this game is to SCV as Tekken Revolution is to TTT2? If so, I’ll pass.

  • Sephiroth420

please dont be like sc5… i hated that game so much, i hope he changes the mechanics back to one of the older ones, they were far better fighting games back in the day, even know SC2 and 3 are great games, i hope capcom jump in the bandwagon and make a free marvel vs capcom game :D, probably not gonna happen but still it would be pretty sick

  • pantsonadog

I read somewhere that this is single player only… Hopefully they will clear that up. If it’s anything like Tekken Revolution I most likely won’t be playing it either way though.

  • SonicRulez

So I take it Tekken Revolution is making a lot of money.
