Tales Of Phantasia Is Coming To iOS This Fall (Yes, It Has Microtransactions)

By Spencer . September 10, 2013 . 5:30pm

imageNamco Bandai will bring Tales of Phantasia, the first game in the Tales series, to iOS this fall. Tales of Phantasia for iOS has touch screen controls and uses the PSP version (pictured) as a base which means the graphics are enhanced compared to the Super Famicom version.

One difference is the iOS version will have microtransactions. TaleTale Source reports one microtransaction lets players instantly revive their party if they are annihilated.

I’ll definitely buy this if it comes over here. Though its pretty unlikely. Can’t get too much Phantasia.

    • Daniel Jeanbaptiste

Get it on SNES, GBA or PS1.

      • InfernoCommander

no, don’t get it on gba. get it snes or ps1 version, gba version was localized very poorly.

        • Mental

Not to mention, the audio downgrade.

        • $36598391

the gba version is the only one with an official translation even if it has alot of mistakes

      • Nanashrew

The GBA version’s translation can be hilariously bad I wouldn’t recomend it

        • Juan Andrés Valencia

          What’s the original line?

          • Nanashrew

“It is known to us as Ragnarok” there’s a lot of weird translation problems in the game.

          • Juan Andrés Valencia

            WTF Namco?

          • They also translated Thor’s computer as “Cust”.
Even though the original is clearly “Oz” as in a reference to the Wizard of Oz.

          • Shinky

I’m pretty sure they just ran the whole script through google translate

          • Grape Monet

Namco didn’t actually translate that. Or publish it, for that matter.

          • Lordshade

They used MSword spell check and didn’t check what it replaced. “Ragnarok” ends up being replaced with “Kangaroo”.

It’s still better than J2E’s translation, which decided to add crude jokes where there were none before…

        • Suicunesol

Good lord, the port AND translation was so disappointing that I never bothered to reach that point.

      • Phoenix Wright

I said that I couldn’t get enough of it. Meaning that I will gladly get another version of it.

  • Marcelo G

Hah! I knew they were just waiting for the right moment to announce another Phantasia port. It’s like a Namco tradition — they have to port Phantasia into another platform every 3 years or so.

I’m not complaining, though — always nice to have a classic available.

    • Audie Bakerson

Well, as long the Tales fanbase doesn’t take it as a reason to do a FIFTH ToP fan-translation (Yes, there are 4 separate ones, and that’s not even counting incomplete ones)…

Then again, the 4th was the second translation for the PS1 version, so I don’t think they need a new system to do that.

    • Pyrotek85

Shame none of them seem to get localized, except that trashy GBA one. I’d love it if we could get cross edition, even if it were digital only.

  • ronin4life

    Those Microtransaction… Barf…
Did the Psp one come over here?

    • Raharu95

      *Shakes head sadly*

  • Juan Andrés Valencia

    There was a PSP version?!

    • fireguardiancoty

There are 2. The Full Voice Edition that came out in 06 I believe, and the X (Cross) version that came with Narikiri Dungeon X.

    • There was Full Voiced Edition, which is a straight port of the PSX version with voices on scenes, and Cross Edition, which was bundled with Narikiri Dungeon X.
Cross Edition upgraded the battle system and added a new party member.

  • Yes, we needed yet another Phantasia port. With microtransactions to revive our party members.
And it’s using Full Voiced Edition instead of the superior Cross Edition on NDX?
    What the hell…

  • Lord Búho

Such a great game slaughtered…. *tear*

  • Curan_Altea

Time to complain about an optional feature that makes the game easier for unskilled players :I

  • Sure, exploit the sucky players. At least it’s not the Exponential Growth type which saves time.

  • FFmax

Why can’t we ever get any remakes over here?

  • $36598391

nooo why not 3DS or VITA?!

    • 永次

Because you have the best remake of Phantasia + Narikiri Dungeon for PSP.

      • $36598391

Uh… no I don’t have that and because It’s not in English
        I wouldn’t buy it

        • 永次

You can buy, go to ebay, play-asia, rakuten… search for Tales of Phantasia Narikiri Dungeon X, buy, receive it, and play it.

          • $36598391

No no… you don’t understand, if a game isn’t in English then I won’t buy it

kinda pointless to buy a rpg in another language, if it was an action game with no text or dialog like the old side scrolling Castlevania games, that would be an exception

          • Lordshade

Namco skipped the both the Psp versions, what makes you think they’ll localize any later versions?

  • CirnoLakes

Well, I mean, it could be wo-
    >Yes, it has Microtransactions
    >one microtransaction lets players instantly revive their party if they are annihilated.
    No, why. Why….

    • William Trengove

Then you had better not die! :P

  • MrRobbyM

I rather just emulate the Ps1 version than buy this with touch controls :/ Great for hardcore fans I guess?

I rather play Phantasia X on my psp

  • Kevin Schwarz

They seriously would do good if they could RE-re-re…make, TOP for PS3 and bring it to the west.

  • Tienron

that is disgraceful…. totally not what i would expect them to do with the first of the series….

  • Syn

(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ *cyring in a corner* “What is wrong with the gaming world…when will it all stop!!!!

  • zferolie

Hell, as long as this comes to america, I’ll be happy. I’ll switch to an Iphone if that happens.

EDIT: iOS means it needs to be played on an iPhone right?

  • Yan Zhao

Microtransaction…in the first Tales game that had 5+ versions already. Ok.

  • artemisthemp

Fans ask for Phantasia remake to PS3 or Vita and Namco give us Tales of iOS transaction….

  • s07195

    Which….PSP version?

  • Anthony Hayball

I wish that it was for the PSN not for those Ipads!
