JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle Is Coming To The West Next Year

By Spencer . September 19, 2013 . 12:03am

Key ArtNamco Bandai confirmed JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle will be released in North America in 2014. CyberConnect2 known for their work on .hack and the Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm series developed the PlayStation 3 fighting game, which covers all eight arcs of the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure manga.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle plays like Street Fighter IV with sidestepping and we posted videos of the gameplay here.

Hmm one has to wonder how they’re going to get around all the legal hurdles. I imagine some names and references will have to be changed or outright removed.

    • Belenger

Incoming Prince going nuts in 3… 2……

    • Namuro

Yeah, I’m wondering about that myself. Welp, still a great news, nonetheless!

  • Chris Yuen

    WRYYYYY-ly?

    • NeoStrayCat

      I hope so…

    • Superior Spider-Man

      ORA-lly!

  • Zangetsu777

    HEELLLLLLL YEEEAAAAAHHHHH!!!!

    • NeoStrayCat

      Don’t you mean Ora-Ora (repeatedly!) :3

  • urbanscholar

    Praise be to Dio sama

  • Ty Austin

So hype right now, I’m glad I didn’t import!

    • Julio D. Zulkarnain

I imported it, and I’m still hype for this news. I’d like to think maybe the number of copies imported help them decide whether to release it worldwide or not (I’m trying to justify my purchase here, please understand…)

      • DemonShadowX

I’m with you there pal….. (tiny bit of regret in importing but not much)

      • Marcus

I imported it as well and still don’t regret it.

      • Ty Austin

More power to you. I can only imagine the hell this game is going to go through in order to be localized for the states. Things like names and appearances might have to be changed to avoid copyright infringement. Importing insures you have a faithful version.

One thing that made me wait to import was the DLC. I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to download it and I really wanna play as Lisa Lisa!

  • hazelnut1112

    Very damn happy.
One thing that pisses me off is seeing no HD release for the .Hack games.
What the hell Bamco and CConnect 2?

  • Laith Rem

Your next words will be… “I can’t wait for it. Good thing I didn’t import.”

Or in not Jojo related jokes, this is Great News!

    • Sentsuizan_93

I can’t wait for it. Good thing I didn’t import!
      Wait…..

    • DemonShadowX

I did import it….. Still don’t regret it.

      • Ninastars

I’m too huge of a JoJo fan to wait until 2014 so the chances are I would’ve imported it even if these news came earlier.

      • Marcus

        Same here.

      • BillyMK

        I imported… I wasn’t cheap… I’m full of regrets

        • DemonShadowX

I wasn’t cheap either (about $92)….no regrets on the game persay but kind of wishing I had gotten Kamen Rider instead.

    • AzureRyuujin

I can’t wait for it. Good thing I didn’t impo-!

      Guh?!

  • Jon McGuire

    HOLY SHIT

  • Graham Page

I own the game. Personally, I feel they should hold back on this and release a successor worldwide instead, when it’s ready.

It’s a good fanservice game but it’s very clearly rushed and would leave a bad impression for those having it as their first introduction to jojo. Frankly. the gameplay isn’t very fun nor good.

It has great fundamentals though. It needs a gameplay overhaul and a completely revised singleplayer to become more fun and worthwhile to sink time into. If this was a B-, a sequel could be a solid A+ if CC2 did the right things.

    • AkuLord3

I kinda agree with you…gameplay isn’t perfect at all but its still found it fun in a way (don’t have it but a friend got it).

      • https://twitter.com/#!/Ojsinnerz Firo_Prochainezo

It’s definitely fun, but beyond broken. We’ve had the easy infinites on everybody, and after the patch removed most of these (We still have 2a infinites after anything that launches the opponent in the corner with a cancel), we got some longass taunt combos with essentially everyone that drain way too much meter.

The game needs a lot of fixing, and it’s probably way too much effort at this point.

        • Hound

The patch removed most of the easy infinites?

That’s awesome. I was worried that the old “Hit, move forward, Hit, move forward” until the timer ran out after you poked your opponent would leave a lot of people running.

    • Ninastars

It’s a lot of fun though and pretty much all JoJo fans I know love it.

It’s definitely not meant for hardcore fighting game community people though and that’s okay. Not all fighting games should be.

    • Brion Valkerion

The game was clearly made for the fans first though, cashing in on the new anime and reprinting of the manga + all the other merch. Like you said, good fanservice but thats about it.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/EnvyMizuhashi Garyuu of Spades

Joseph: Sugi ni omae wa…”I wish this game will be released to the west!!!”…toyu!

Me: Can’t see how you expect me to say that considering that’s actually happening.

    • AkuLord3

But you said it before then saw this…AH HA…he still wins

      • http://www.youtube.com/user/EnvyMizuhashi Garyuu of Spades

lol I’m actually one of the people who thought this game didn’t have a chance and thus, didn’t bother asking it.

        *COUNTER*

I wish this game will be released to the west!

  • RazeXI

…I just convinced my friend to go half on this with me to get the imported copy..I really hope he doesn’t end up breaking my legs when he finds out its coming over here…

  • reysol981

…What did you do with the real namco bandai?

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/EnvyMizuhashi Garyuu of Spades

Now you know how Tales fans felt. lol

      • Arcana Wiz

this so much, i cant beleieve it… so much games in the us! of the namco this is a miracle perfomed by fans!

  • $36487238

    HE;LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL YEAH!

Man, this is great! This is great! First Monster Hunter, and now this? ;-D

    BOOM!

    • RazeXI

Are you referring to Frontier G heading to vita? Because I wouldn’t really consider that GREAT news.

  • Kai2591

Hope they keep the Japanese voice. Well, it’s not for me, but for my friend who’s a fan.

  • http://www.siliconera.com/ Ishaan

Man, oh man. I can’t wait until you guys find out about the microtransactions. Then again, there’s no word on if those will be included in the western release…

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/EnvyMizuhashi Garyuu of Spades

You just told everyone looking at this article about it. lol

    • RazeXI

And this is different…how from other fighting games? lol

      • http://www.siliconera.com/ Ishaan
        • RazeXI

okay..after reading that..not gonna lie, threw up a little in my mouth. But hey at least it doesn’t affect local multi which is what me and my friend are gonna mainly play this game for…but even then that doesn’t excuse such a deplorable game design choice…

        • Ninastars

That blatant controversy-seeking honestly pisses me off. It talks about the support items you can buy as a necessity when you actually get them for free along the way as well. It’s just supposed to be a fun partially luck-based game mode that keeps you coming back to the game from time to time to try unlock extras, not something you’re supposed to grind for ages to hoard everything.

        • SlickRoach

From what the article said it just speeds up the process of unlocking stuff so a patient person can unlock everything at a leisurely pace. I thought unlocking poses and costumes would be the actual DLC but it’s not. Unlike the plethora of hues and palettes in SF X TK.

        • Lloyd Christmas

Have you… even played the game yourself?

        • Punny Fuzz

          “Kotaku”!? -Really Ishaan?
          I expected better from you…

          (ノಥ益ಥ)ノ彡uɐɐɥsI

But really, as long as I have tho option to unlock this stuff myself, there may as well be NO POINT in bringing up micro transactions. It doesn’t even take that long to recharge you battery.

          Very disappointed Ishaan.

        • Hound

So.. the game is absolutely like any other fighting game, except all unlockables that make jojo’s asb unique can be earned with patience?

I don’t see the trouble. It sounds like Capcom vs SNK unlockables or Animal Crossing with a “speed up” button.

Either way, it’s spend some time getting goodies that no other fighting game offers (heck, colors for a couple characters can cost $15 in some fighters) or spend $1.50 to give yourself 5 more matches in “rewards mode”. If you’re patient, you can wait 25 minutes instead.. which you can spend in the game’s Story, Single Player, Multi-player, and Practice modes..

If it were something like “Spend money to improve your character online” or “pay us $5 for a few colors on the character’s default costume,” that’d be inexcusable. These transactions get you something aesthetic that any other game would gladly charge you $5 for with no in-game alternative.

Personally, I’m only worried about how much the DLC characters will cost..

      • https://twitter.com/#!/Ojsinnerz Firo_Prochainezo

lol. You thought Arc Sys and Capcom were bad? You’re in for a treat.

        • http://www.siliconera.com/ Ishaan

          *rubs hands together in anticipation*

        • SlickRoach

Capcom would have done without the Energy Gauge completely and made you buy all of the extra poses, taunts and costumes entirely.

        • Arcana Wiz

,,. many fighting game sdo a lot more than Arc sys and get away and people tend to senseless attack them…… but returning to topic, yes i want to see the western reaction.

    • Muffum

      …Eh.

Speaking as someone who’s unlocked a good majority of the campaign stuff, it’s really not that bad.

Could the game have gone without it? Absolutely, but it’s not really a deal-breaker. Microtransactions are never shoved in your face, and the only things you can get with them are support items and extra bars of energy. You can get most of the support items in the game anyway, and those you can’t are never really necessary. Energy regenerates quickly enough that it never really feels like you’d need a boost for any reason. This is ignoring that microtransactons only apply to this single mode that just unlocks cosmetic stuff.

Honestly, campaign’s microtransactions are vastly preferable to just having the trinkets as DLC, which would probably be the only other option (this is Namco and CC2, after all).

    • Hunts Rattata

People are reacting really negatively to Campaign mode, but I don’t think it’s bad at all. It’s definitely preferable to a system where you either buy costumes or have to do without them entirely.

    • Ninastars

Except that they really affect nothing?

Seriously people are just “Oh you can pay for this small thing in the game?” and are calling to burn the witch over it without actually thinking of it in the context.

    • Lynx

I played Battle Operation and Idolm@ster religiously.

Microtranscations are a part of my daily meal.

    • MasterScrub

I don’t see how 100% optional microtransactions are a bad thing.

Now, the 9 DLC characters coming out not even a month after launch… THAT’S pretty suspect.

    • BTA

They’re *REALLY REALLY* nowhere near as bad as people are saying they are. You absolutely do not need to pay anything, especially as they permanently lowered the recharge time to 5 minutes per bar.

    • Istillduno

What campaign mode does is just on the right side of the line between acceptable and unacceptable imo, the bar thing shouldn’t exist, but the idea of the costumes being both available to unlock through gameplay and microtransaction is brillient as it allows them to bring in that DLC money without the whole shady “And here is all the stuff you would have unlocked simply through gameplay back when you were a kid for just £x.99 a pop!” thing.

That said the amount of characters suddenly released just after release is pretty suspect but in this case I honestly can’t tell if it is genuine “after the game went gold” content or not.

    • Hound

I asked a few people that own the game.
Unlocking everything in campaign mode is easy to do in a few days without using the microtransactions.

If they’re not exaggerating, then you’d probably get just as many people upset that alternate characters & announcers in Blazblue & Persona 4 Arena can be unlocked in-game or bought via PSN.

  • leingod

Great news! TGS news in general just made my day. And I bet they’ll have time to fix Jojo a little before western release… you know, the infinites everyone’s talking about.

  • Renaldi Saputra

    oh Namdai.. please…
decode decode decode decode in 2014 announcement

  • Jesse

    YES.

  • Auvers

Worried about how they’ll handle localizing it.

  • SirRichard

Hell yes, I’m down for double-dipping on this.Yeah, the story mode’s weak and actually knowing how the campaign works makes it dodgy as hell (for some reason I could never actually get Campaign to open, it just wouldn’t let me into the mode at all), but the game’s fun as hell with friends especially if they’re new fans to the series or new to the series at all so you can blow their minds.

    • Muffum

To play the campaign, you have to get the free downloads for the campaign rounds off the Japanese PSN. There are 2 rounds so far, the first with a picture of Bowie Kira and Fatty, and the second with a picture of Iggy and Fugo.

      • SirRichard

Ah, that would explain it. Thanks, mate!

  • http://www.myspace.com/Juan_Rod bluejuan85

Ohhh shiii I will definitely buy this and don’t care how bad it is. I will definitely have fun with this I have read all curent Jojo released thus far wish all the manga had an official US release so I can buy them and support this awesome series.

I am still waiting for my Japanese copy to be released from customs.
GODDAMNIT LET ME PLAY MY GAME ALREADY
Inb4 EU/NA version will have all the names changed and Japanese voices cut to avoid lawsuit.

    • https://twitter.com/#!/Ojsinnerz Firo_Prochainezo

I can’t wait for the inevitable name changes!

      • Lynx

Araki won’t let that happen unless a miracle happens.

        He’s very….not okay with changes.

        • TiamatNM

well some of the names were changed for the pt3 manga’s release from Viz so he must be able to compromise somewhat

  • vileBrenman

No freakin way! This is awesome! Duraduradura

  • Wappuli

    Now this was a surprise.
Nothing for me, but good news for anyone who wished to play this but didn’t want to import.

  • DemonShadowX

Great news! I still don’t regret importing it. Will probably sell my import copy and pick this up when it comes around.

  • All Fiction

What about Europe ? It’s the only place where the entire manga was released translated (at least in France)

  • D. Collins

ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME,I SOLD MY PS3. i was tired of waiting and JoJo’s Bizarre adventure would have been my only reason to keep my ps3, but a release date or at least a confirmation was not given soon enough. this is a very bitter sweet moment for me…… im happy though.

  • Internet is Crash

    What a beautiful announcement! chew

  • SlickRoach

Even SpeedWagon is hyped for this localization!

  • SigmaNHK

Already put 100 hours into this game, but day one re-purchase.

  • MrTyrant

THIS IS AWESOME and Im glad that didn’t buy the original game lol

  • Milla

Expect censors everywhere because you know refferences. *trollface*

    • Arcana Wiz

dont know why they downvoted you, every jojo fan know that the stands are often named after rock bands, they have to censor some things to avoid lawsuit.

  • KuroNathan

    featuring exciting enemies like!

    Esidisi!
    Fantana!
    Wamuu!
    Kars!

    etc etc

    • Rafael Martines

      Fantana? LoL

    • Hound

Featuring ghost-like creatures that will aid you in battle, such as:
Haven’s Door, Killer Kween, The Heart Attack, Buys the Dust, Ero Sumisu, Goal Experience, Stingy Fingers, Sax Pistols, Purple Waves, King Persimmon, YSnake, Sea Moon, Maid in Heaven, D4C, and Soap & Wet.

      • KuroNathan

copyright infringement? I don’t see any copyright infringement officer. We’re a legitimate business here see?

  • British_Otaku

I’m curious about what state the game will make it in, dub and sub, or just subs, changed names all over the place or in tact…

Cool that they are localising a more risky title for once, even Europe isn’t on the list yet. The system is region free.

  • KyoyaHibari

Imported the JP version; going to pre-order the NA version. JOJO WESTERN LOVE BABY! A BEAUTIFUL DUWANG!

  • Brion Valkerion

My guess is the Jojo’s anime got confirmed for dubbing and release in NA/EU.

  • Piercingty

    IT’S HAPPENING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • MikelAL93

    About time!

I hope for a physical release, with or without an English dub. If it has one, I’ll switch to Japanese voices immediately. :P

  • Ni ~UNREAL BLACK THINGS~

I see. people are supporting microtransactions…
don’t complain in the future when they start abusing this feature on consoles games

    • Lloyd Christmas

You do know you can unlock everything in the game (‘Cept for the DLC characters) without spending a penny over these micro-transactions?

      • Ni ~UNREAL BLACK THINGS~

i’m just sayimg that people are fine with microtransactions. so if in the future the microtransactions start going the same road that DLC went they don’t complain since they’re saying “I’m fine with microtransaction”.

        • Anime10121

I can kinda agree… while I wont make a big fuss outta this, I can DEFINITELY see what you’re saying. Example, they start Microtransactioning JRPGs where you can only gain so many levels at a time, and to get any more, (in a certain time frame) PAY ME!!!!

  • Lloyd Christmas

Guys, the rather ignorant and misinformed belief that you need to pay to unlock things in this game is quite misleading and downright false. I’ve unlocked pretty much everything through Campaign mode without having to take even a single dime out of my wallet. All the micro-transactions do is speed up the process of unlocking things. It’s just a trap for the impatient suckers.

  • lozffvii

Namdai, I have but one humble request:
Please release this in EU so I can get the DLC.

    • MrSirFeatherFang

It is coming to Europe and Australia as well.

      • lozffvii

        Awesome.

  • Guest

SNIFF, first Ni No Kuni and now Jojo?!?! I LOVE YOU NAMCO BANDAI!!!

  • Jean Alcantara

HAS HELL FROZEN OVER!? This is great news!

    THANK YOU STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN!

  • Hinataharem

Oh, yeah. This is great namco. Really cool.

Although I don’t know whether I should buy it again or not

  • Göran Isacson

They actually did it. I mean, it’s going to have references censored everywhere but… man, they ACTUALLY did it! I don’t even know if this is a good game or not, I’m just hyped Jojos is getting some attention in the west.

  • Pinwheel

I have something interesting to share about this. First off.. MY GOD. IS THIS FUCKING REALITY? THIS CANNOT BE. THIS IS THE BEST NEWS I’VE BEEN WAITING TO POP UP FOR LIKE 3 MONTHS NOW, OH MY GOD OH MY GOD THIS IS AWESOOOOOOME. FINALLY!

Okay.. okay. With that out of the way, somebody mentioned this would happen 2 days ago on the JJBA All-Star Battle GFAQs board.
    http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/676176-jojos-bizarre-adventure-all-star-battle/67266866

This person is now also claiming it’s going to get a disc release.
    http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/676176-jojos-bizarre-adventure-all-star-battle/67280642/758408535

Dunno if this means anything, but still. JOJO IS COMING TO THE WEST FINALLY, GUYS!

  • Arcana Wiz

    I really didn’t expect that… yay!!!!

  • MikelAL93

It’s been confirmed that the game will have Japanese voices and English subs.

    http://www.shacknews.com/article/81199/jojos-bizarre-adventure-all-star-battle-coming-to-ps3-in

I still hope for a disc release regardless. :P

    • Hound

Omg. Hold the phone here.. They’re keeping the Japanese voices?
I wonder if that means they’re keeping the rock references and everything. If so, YES!!!!

      • MikelAL93

Yep. They’re keeping the Japanese voices, which means that I hope they keep the rock references as well.

  • Istillduno

I imported, had a slight regret, but then I looked at the pimp ass gold plate and figure that came with it and everything was good.

Well that and the whole playing it now rather than some time next year thing too.

  • Arizato

Wow, never expected this to come over here! Great news!

Now if we only got that anime adaptation of Part 3 that was teased in the last episode of the recent anime.

  • bushin

This means I have plenty of time to read the manga so I understand completely what’s going on

  • tankman

I hope they release the Gold Experience edition of the game, even if it’s limited to pre-orders. Even if they don’t though, I’m still really excited by this news

  • Reki Honoo

I read on event hub that it will come to the west later this year.

  • Exkaiser

    It’s so sweet, it’s ridiculous! It’s sweetdiculous!
