Shantae: Half-Genie Hero Reaches Funding Goal

By Ishaan . September 23, 2013 . 5:40pm

Shantae: Half-Genie Hero has reached its 400,000 goal on Kickstarter and is officially funded, WayForward Technologies have announced. Additionally, the studio revealed two more stretch goals for the game today.

At $900,000, the game will allow you to play as three more characters—Rottytops, Bolo and Sky—each with their own story and abilities. Meanwhile, at the $1 million mark, a bonus chapter with be added to the game, featuring a “Nega-Shantae”.

It’s unlikely that either of these stretch goals will be hit, but with ten days to go before the Kickstarter ends, WayForward could reach the $500,000 stretch goal, which will add Risky Boots to the game as a playable character, complete with her own campaign.

Shantae: Half-Genie Hero is in development for PC, Wii U, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and Vita.

I’m just thankful it got funded. It’s a shame it probably won’t hit any stretch goals, since they are all really great.

    • Muffum

I wouldn’t be surprised if it hit the first one or two, due to the natural bump in funding projects get near the end of their funding period, but I’ll be surprised if it hits any more.

    • Sardorim

Well, they can at least leave hooks for sequels or spin-offs.

    • TheRealMalek

I’ll be ok if it hits at least 500k :p need risky ! :p

    Good times

  • fearlubu

Just saying, but that was a badass slide at the beginning.

  • greg_67

I’m surprised they added more stretch goals with only 10 or so days left. I don’t see how they’ll reach 900,000 so do they expect this to be funded after the kickstarter has ended?

    • British_Otaku

I get the feeling that stretch goals are used by companies to market their game more than show exactly how much they expect or need to do something.

Apparently, Skullgirls was really open about how much everything cost to do, but here the $900,000 will at the least have some people chatting about the game more and perhaps a few donations hoping for the closer goals.

I’m glad, I was worried about this one.

  • AuraGuyChris

Hopefully we’re not going to see what could’ve been…

  • I had a feeling it was either going to make it by today or tomorrow since it had just a few thousand left. Hopefully it makes a few stretch goals.

If it doesn’t, future paid DLC?

    • My Little endy

Sadly, in the Reddit AMA Wayforward did last weekend, they said that if they don’t reach a stretch goal we won’t be seeing them as DLC in the future, since they just won’t have the funding to work on that portion.

      • British_Otaku

That sounds like a shame, but it would be nice to see substantial additions to a platformer for a fair price especially content which we know we want.

      • I said the same thing of ‘that’s a shame’ when I read that. Completely understandable but definitely a shame considering what would be available if it were only funded.

Unless the funding picks up to about quadruple its current rate, I just don’t see the stretches making themselves work all told. You may see one or possibly two by the end of it but I’d strongly doubt much more than that.

        • My Little endy

Yeah, and its a bit sad. I’m sure we’ll get Risky Boots mode, though.

  • Aisha Lee

I hope they reach that stretch goal. I really want to play as Rottytops and Sky.

  • Göran Isacson

There was no bellydancing in that video from that gentleman with the wig. I am dissapoint and will totally retract my donation unless a future video contains it.

I kid, of course. Congratulations are in order for these fine fellows and ladies, and I hope they at least hit one or two stretch goals on their way up!

  • z_merquise

So nice to see it funded. Also happy to see Wayforward getting a lot of support.

  • British_Otaku

It made it before my payday, but I get the urge to donate so we get to the $900,000 to have the extra characters even if I haven’t finished the original Shantae. >_>

Oh well, Risky Boots will be cool still and seems reachable with a lot of luck and late donations.

I feel more excited about this than Mighty Number 9. Probably because of the Vita port….

FYI, to celebrate hitting their funding goal they’ve made the iOS version of Risky’s Revenge FREE on iTunes for a limited time.

  • Zangetsu777

Nice i’m glad it reached its goal.

Now just need to decide what system to get it for.

  • leingod

Getting this for Vita. I would’ve loved Duck Tales Remastered too, but hey.

  • PersonaSpace

Glad it’s funded, but seeing all those stretch goals that will never be reached makes me really sad.

  • Ben Sylvia

Those jerks with lots of money, how dare you not get all those stretch goals met in place of all us poor people who want to play them but can’t give sizeable enough quantities of money to get it there! XD

At least the game is funded though.

  • brian

I’m glad, but really I expected this much, it just makes me wish I could play those stretch goal chapters.

  • artemisthemp

Happy that it got funded, but doubt they will reach the stretch goals

  • Nexus

Man, I’d do anything for Shantae to feature voice acting. Luckily, WayForward opened a PayPal account where people can still donate and will count in reach those stretch goals.

In the end, I’m just happy the game was fully funded in time.
