“Good News” About Ikaruga Coming Soon Say Treasure

By Ishaan . September 27, 2013 . 11:31am

Treasure, the developers of the Sin & Punishment games, Ikaruga, and now Gaist Crusher, recently set up a Twitter account in Japan. This morning, the studio made its first English tweet:

Good news about Ikaruga? A re-release of the game on a different platform, perhaps? As far as modern-day platforms are concerned, Ikaruga is already available on Xbox 360 and Android platforms.

Ikaruga is a shoot-em-up originally release for arcades and the Sega Dreamcast. The game was later ported to the Nintendo Gamecube as well. We’ll have more to report as Treasure announce further details.

OMG yes! I’ve been waiting for this! Thanks Ishaan~

For someone who loves Vanquish, can you recommend Ikaruga?

(yeah, I know it’s a different game and different genre but the speed and the manic-shooting of Vanquish is something I see in bullet-hell shmups, only thing is that I suck at those)

      • MrSirFeatherFang

        That’s a little hard… hmmm…
I think Ikaruga is a different type of speed. It’s really fast, but I think the game wants you to memorize patterns and such. It’s still really hard even if you know what’s coming. I really like the game, but I can’t be too sure if it’s your cup of tea. I think the game is hard, but with time and dedication, you can master this game. I feel like I want to do that someday.
The poems and overall feel make it an artistic package in my eyes. I wish there was an OST release…

i find vanquish, thankfully, brings that shmup level of action to the 3ps/fps genre… i would liken vanquish more to shmup/platformers (run & guns) like contra, gunstar, alien soldier, than a vert/horiz shmup like ikaruga tho… but i think if u dig shmups u’d dig vanquish… i know i do!

        • Vanquish is a must-play! Perhaps on my top 10 games of the generation. Really hoping for a sequel!!!

      • TrevHead

Alot of shmup players adore Platinum due to their high tempo and adrenaline just like STGs can be.

If you enjoyed beating Vanquish’s challenges even though they kicked your arse you might like STG. If you enjoy playing a musical instrument than there is even more chance.

It’s generally not a genre you are good at straight away, nearly everybody starts off crap so don’t let that put you off, it’s rewarding just setting yourself little goals and improving over a long period of time.

I would recommend ikaruga . Being able to switch polarity is great as it allows you absorb bullets and live ^^
The chain system is great if you want to play the game differently

  • Red Veron

Ikaruga on Sony systems? Ikaruga on Vita plz.

    • JuhRo

  • PS3? PS4? Vita? Wii U? PC?! I’d be happy for one of those…

No really I want to experience Ikaruga again. Too many times did I get to play these kinds of games when I was younger and didn’t appreciate them, and as a result no longer owned the games. I want to be able to play this again and enjoy it.

  • EdgeKun

    OH MY~
To be honest I’m not sure what to expect. As you already said, we have Ikaruga on XBLA as it is. I won’t complain though, any further news on my favorite shmup guarantees a good time~

  • Weeb

Oh man I hope it’s a sequel. I’d be happy with a 3ds or vita port too.

  • z_merquise

Bullet-hell shooters is a kind of genre that I want to enjoy but I felt turned down everytime I tried playing it because it’s too hardcore (I hope I get the right term).

Yet, I read a lot of good things about Ikaruga that I really wanted to try this if ever it’s available on a console I have.

So I want to know what made it so special to other games in the same genre?

    • InfectedAI

You should try Jamestown. Even on the harder difficulties it’s not impossible for people who aren’t too good at those games. Plus it’s fun in multiplayer.

      • TrevHead

I would say Jamestown makes a good STG for hooking new players, yet it’s does miss some of the dynamics that a traditional 3:4 ratio vert does.

Imo Blue Wish Resurrection (PC freeware) is a good learning STG due to how slowly the bullets move.

CAVE’s Deathsmiles and Mushihimisama Futari Original mode are good starting places too.

    • 60hz

      try deathsmiles, ikaruga is brutal.

    • TrevHead

What makes Ikaruga special? IMO It’s just better at communicating what’s so fun about modern STG than most others due to it’s unique polarity mechanic. However there are plenty of modern shmups with unique mechanics that are just as good or even better imo, they just tend to be more under the radar.

Don’t be a phone port. Don’t be a phone port. Don’t be a phone port.
