Missed Out On Helping This Hardcore Indie RPG? Now’s Your Chance.

The developers of indie “hardcore RPG” Lords of Xulima are really hoping to make the best game possible, but barely squeaked past their initial funding goal on IndieGoGo. To make up for that, they’re taking to Kickstarter this time around in the hopes of meeting more of their stretch goals.

Interested parties take note, this does not appear to be them asking for more money— they’ve got about enough of that already with their initial funding met—but are now going purely for stretch goals as the game is at 70%ish completion.

If you missed out on the first round (Especially the allure for international folks of “Free Shipping + Extra cool stuff”) then pitch in, as the game’s already got an additional $7000 as of press with about 25 days to go.

Also of note, this game is for Linux and Mac as well as PC—and there’s currently a Steam Greenlight going on for it as well. The game will feature more than a hundred skills, some 9 classes (more if stretch goals are reached) and a turn-based, location-matters tile system combat.

If you want to pick up the game, you can check out its Kickstarter here.

Aren’t stretch goals just that…stretch goals? If they really wanted to ensure that those features were added, they should have been included in the initial funding goal. Hopefully all goes well, but I’m pretty cynical about games asking for money after an already successful indiegogo/kickstarter.

Once you come to create and shape a project you love so much that you want it to be as great as possible, you will probably understand a little better.

Also, once you get to know a certain project a bit more, and the people behind it, you too might want to see it improved and expanded. That game is already around 200k in production value, they invested all they have in it, they’re just asking if there’s enough interest to fund more content & immersion.

They’re also playing it safe on the original goal because Kickstarter is all-or-nothing. European studios have to pay extra to be on that platform, so a defeat would’ve meant a partly rushed game release due to costs incurred.

In my opinion, crowdsourcing is just not a book you judge by its cover.

I know this may be too early to ask, but I have some questions:
1.) Can I be evil in this game?
2.) Can you be male or female?
    3.) Is there romance?

Edit: I’ve contacted them on their Kickstarter page regarding these questions. If they get back with me, I’ll let you all know.

Wow, I received a detailed response in just ~40 minutes. They said:

      ——-
      A) Gaulen, the main protagonist, follows his own path, which is not
good or bad, he tries to accomplish his divine mission.. but who is the
good one in this story? You will know it when you finish it.

      B) No. Gaulen is the main protagonist, who is a man, but you create your own female characters.

      C) We cannot reveal that information, it would be a spoiler :o)

      Best regards!
      The team

So ehh, not the responses I was hoping for, but I have to admire they listened to my questions and they already have a clear focus for the game. Definitely a game I look forward to playing, regardless.
