Namco Bandai’s New PS3 Game Is All About Managing Voice Actors

By Sato . December 17, 2013 . 5:28pm

We’ve seen games that have you managing idols, but not many where you assume the role of a voice actor producer—well, that is until now. According to Famitsu magazine, Namco Bandai developers Craft & Meister’s new game, Casting Voice is an upcoming visual novel game that is all about being a voice actor producer.

In Casting Voice, your job as the producer will be to communicate with various fictional voice actors ranging from popular up-and-coming characters, to respected veterans of the industry. You’ll also be in charge of casting and recording with over 40 different voice actors.

During the casting and recording sessions, there will be actual anime series involved in the game, where you’ll be free to choose who gets the roles.

Here’s some more info on some of the voice actors:

Kumiko Jujo: A 19-years and 7300-days old voice actress who goes by Mrs. Jujo or Kumi-chan. The 19 plus 19-year-old former idol has a gentle and quiet personality.

Saya Uchiyama:  A 20-year-old voice actress who goes by the nickname Saari-chan and Saya-sama. She has a smart appearance, but she’s actually a “hikikomori” or shut-in, who prefers staying indoors. She’s been wanting to be a voice actress since watching anime as a child.

Yukihiko Hino: A 20-year-old voice actor, who goes by Hime-kun and Yuki-chan. He’s a talented new voice actor who specializes in voicing cute-type characters.

Takashi Michiba: A 54-year-old veteran voice actor, who goes by Micchi and Michiba-san. He has a cheerful and jocular personality, but he can also be strict at times. He’s known for voicing lead roles in gag anime, and prides himself in his previous work as an actor.

Casting Voice is slated for release in 2014 for PlayStation 3.

So, this is that “CV” tease they made. That’s kinda interesting.
Imagine if they made a spin-off where they voices eroge and h anime. That would fun XD

    • fyi1191

You mean having Norio Wakamoto voicing an eroge MC? I SURE WANT THAT TO HAPPEN!

      • M’iau M’iaut

Check out Family Project! He plays the dirty old man (under an alias) I know that’s a stretch for Norio. It is one of the best eroges to receive a legit stateside release. You SHOULD still be able to you tube the OP at least. NSFW.

Kotoko does the OP and the girls are voiced by some very well known folks (again alias). Just shows that at least in Japan, the line between works for adults and broad audience anime ain’t that far.

        • Zak Ledward

Aah~ Family Project. Made amazing by the fact that the perverted, yet strangely awesome old man turned out to be voiced by one of the most manliest men in the world “Norio Wakamoto.”

    • DyLaN!
Not a game, but you might want to check out KoeGoto manga/anime.

      • PreyMantis

Ahh, this one. It was kinda awkward watching the anime. Pretty interesting, though.

  • luckgandor

This is a seriously interesting concept. I wonder if it will explore the theme of female voice actors trying to sound unnaturally cutesy to fit moe roles.

    • Shippoyasha

Truly great seiyuu do it naturally though. Some behind the scenes seiyuu footage is pretty awesome stuff.

      • Kaetsu

        Rie Kugimiya :D

  • Mr_SP

    > Kumiko: 19 years and 7300 days
    Kikuko Inoue?

    • Chris Yuen

Kumiko is actually voiced by Kikuko Inoue. [email protected] the seiyuu joke. The other female is voiced by Ayana Taketatsu (aka Azusa from K-ON!, Ayumi from The World God Only Knows, Suguha/Leafa from Sword Art Online and Labrys from the Persona 4 Arena fighting game)

    • Hound

Just noticed that she voice acts “Kikuko” in Miss Monochrome. Rather funny how much she’s self-representing.

      • neocatzon

        Forever 17!

  • Ramón Navas

    This… sounds kinda cool

  • AuraGuyChris

I shall give the hot-blooded main lead a super squeaky voice and NEVER replace the atrocity even after the anime ends!

    (I’m looking at you, Beyblade.)

  • z_merquise

You forgot to include the actual voice actors who voice the characters in the game. One of them (Kumiko Jujo) is based on her voice actress Kikuko Inoue.

  • ChiffonCake

Ah, this sounds interesting. I’m curious to see how it’ll turn out.

  • Arcana Wiz

    The [email protected]

  • ZnTxn

    I just want to hear Megumi Hayashibara again ;___;

On-topic, [email protected] sounds great :3

    • Arcana Wiz

woaw almost at the same time!

  • Kaetsu

Haha my friend and I joked one day about a game like Persona but you form social links with voice actors like Johnny Yong Bosch, Yuri Lowenthal, Steve Blum, e.t.c. Never did I think something sort of similar would actually be made.

    • GameTaco

Honestly, I’d totally go for an Ouendan sort of thing here. Instead of localizing Casting Voice, just make a separate game about fictional dub artists.

I’d probably just have Vic Mignogna’s character voice everyone or something. :P

      • In the Vic Mignogna ending Vic gets Raptured away and leaves you on Earth alone among the infidels

        • GameTaco

There would also need to be a moment where he decides to improve his performance in a scene by stuffing an entire powdered sugar doughnut in his mouth before recording.

  • Romancer Ecclesia

So… there are voice actors for the voice actors. The company chooses voice actors for the game and we’re supposed to manage the voice actors who’re voiced by voice actors. I’m… I’m not confused at all.

    • Pedro Furtado

This game’s secret mode should be picking out which voice actor is which voice actor. There should also be an anime about voice actors inside the game.

    • David García Abril

      “Voice Actingception”!!!

  • JohnNiles

This looks interesting, though very niche.

  • Raze

    What’s with that 19 years old and 7300 days….

    • Mr_SP

Kikuko Inoue, a major VA, has long been known to say that’s she’s 17 years old – even though she turns 50 next year. So much so, that’s it’s made it’s way into several anime as a gag. This is yet another usage.

      • M’iau M’iaut

That joke means even more when Belldandy’s VA is the same as this particular character. :P

  • Keko

Now this is something I’d import. I love the idea of being the producer of a seiyuu. I wonder how many famous seiyuus they’ll hire to voice fictional famous seiyuus inside the game?

  • xe7en

I’d buy this if Miyuki Sawashiro is in.

    • s07195

Or Hayami Saori. Though this is also for male seiyuu, so Sugita Tomokazu would be nice too. XD

  • icecoffemix

Whoa it’s true, [email protected]! :o

  • Just Tim

Why do I get the impression that Kumiko Jujo is a reference to Kikuko Inoue?

    • Morricane

I would laugh if she were to be voicing her…:)

  • The Old Shopkeeper

at first, I thought that the girl with the orange hair was yukiko

  • Renaldi Saputra

I expect there will be some TOEI seiyuu too

  • Firekitty

Yukihiro Hino = Yuuki Hiro and Takashi Michiba sounds Luke Masashi Ebihara to me. Now, where’s the the ex-cop who does all the top-tier villains, and the lady with legions of sexually confused fangirls because she voices all the best bishonen?

  • Raise your voice!

  • Pythia Brixham

Kumiko Jujo: A 19-years and 7300-days old voice actress who goes by Mrs. Jujo or Kumi-chan.

Edit: Not accounting for leap year.

According to the math, that is 20 years.

  • AndyLC

‘Kumiko Jujo: A 19-years and 7300-days old voice actress who goes by Mrs. Jujo or Kumi-chan.’ is voiced IRL by Kikuko Inoue, an industry veteran who was the voice of The Boss (MGS3) AND Sunny (MGS4, MGR).

  • Are Japanese VAs seriously that young?

Also god willing Bamco will do a full localization of this game with NA voiceover industry-specific details

    • EX+

Teenagers can get voice acting jobs in Japan. Lol

      • Firekitty

…In the US, too. both Miyu Irino and Haley Osment, Sora’s Japanese and English voices, were about fourteen when they worked on KH1. They got an actual kid to voice Al in the English dub of FMA, too (And he was one of the high points of an otherwise terrible job).

  • The next step should be Seiyuu Academy:

    • doubleO7

Ha! I love how Crispin Freeman is the only non-Japanese on there lol
